I am in a bit of mourning today. I spent many an hour meandering through the aisles of Fry’s with my Dad…I LOVED those trips…often we would leave with a new game, sometimes a new mouse or other computer peripheral, sometimes we would depart with just some good laughs at what we found among those wide, dimly-lit isles. But those trips were almost always good and valuable time together.  (Each store had a different theme -- I was always partial to the Tiki-vibe in El Segundo, but the crashed spaceship was also pretty cool; for those fortunate enough to visit one during Fry's golden years, which was your favorite?) 
 
My Dad passed away a few years ago and with Fry’s shuttering their doors last night (let’s be honest, they should have been shuttered years ago), it is just one more thing that slides (perhaps less than gracefully) into the dustbin of history. Fry’s will always have a special place in my memories of gaming, of geekdom and of my youth. I almost wish you didn't live long enough to see the 2020-2021 Tech Launch Debacle™ (© NVIDIA Corp. 2020-2023). Fair winds and following seas, dear Fry’s.

I feel you there.  My dad passed away a few years ago as well.  And even though time has gone by, there are still moments where it hits you fresh again.  Like someplace you guys used to go closing.  Or your kids doing something that you wish you could share.  I sometimes think it would be really nice to just have a few more words together.  I think what helps me is I know I can still share those words with him.  I will not hear back, but I still know who I am talking to.  Cheers.

I was wondering the exact same thing.  I turned Elite 2 days ago, and added myself to the Kingpin notify list.
Then, when I looked at the price, I wondered if, when the time comes, would I really be able to pull the trigger and pay 2 stacks (look at me, I sound like I have street cred) for any video card.

Then I started wondering, besides me, who else would bail on that kind of a purchase (Except overclocker pros, of course).  I remember when the Titan came out.  Back then you could get whatever card you wanted.

I imagine it depends on what the queue looks like when I get a Kingpin notification.
BTW--is there a different place to sign up for the Kingpin, or is it the same notification link as the other cards?

Sign up like any other card, but you need to be logged into your account, to be recognized as an Elite Member.

Seriously guys take a look at Outriders it looks awesome lol! I think I'll try the demo coming out tomorrow, been a while since I scratched my Anthem/Destiny itch.

Yeah I remember this trailer... Man we were so hyped for this game back then...
 
I still believe that Anthem had GREAT potential, just got handled very poorly. The gameplay was awesome, the flying and gunplay was top notch, graphics and environments were out of this world.
 
Everything else was pathetic. There was like nothing to do...

I hated the camera.  Hated it.  Also, it felt so far afield from everything else Bioware had done to date...not even Bioware-adjacent. Well, next up will be DA 4...but enough about old games...I still need a card to play modern games....

For people who are playing Anthem or were planning to come back expecting that EA/Bioware would continue working on Anthem Next/2.0: my condoleances, they are abandoning the project.
 
Now on the bright side take a look at Outriders: demo is coming out tomorrow, seems like a solid Looter-Shooter-RPG from Square Enix in the same veins as Destiny/Anthem with a lot of potential.

Anthem had some great mechanics, and some beautiful sections of its world.  Sure, the camera would swing wildly sometimes.  It's woefully lacking in content.  But flying and combat were a lot of fun.  I'm probably on the extreme minority side here as well, but I really liked Andromeda.  It's almost like their studios get paralyzed by x or y criticism, and just stop doing anything.  If they instead focused on just building out on what they started with, both might have gone better.  I'm sure it's a lot more complex than that, but it feels like they just pack it in quickly with an on to the next one attitude at the slightest sign of adversity.  Sure, they dangled Anthem 2.0 for a long time, but they never put any serious resources behind it.
