There is absolutely no reason to buy from a scalper.  There are multiple discords out there dedicated to helping you score a card.  I support EVGA and the queue 100%, but I also would not sit by and wait months if my queue number stunk.

I have promoted/praised EVGA and the queue everywhere, but I have no problem saying I have been trying to score a card in the wild while waiting on my queue.

I 100% agree.  They are not mutually exclusive.  Sign-up for the queue, check in with this thread from time to time, but in the meantime find your preferred way to hunt for a card via F5 or in person (by lining up before a brick and mortar opens), but try every channel you can.

And, again, for the record -- it is INSANE that we have to go through these hoops to spend hundreds of dollars for a component -- admittedly, a very important piece of our gaming rigs.  But still; NVIDIA should have done a lot better.  It is an embarrassment.

I need somebody to talk me out of giving in to the scalpers on eBay lol.

I am on the brink!

In my old age, I have learned to create a sort of "pre buyer's remorse" where I can imagine what it will be like when the "new" wears off of something that I'm about to spend money on.

I know I would feel really bad in a few months with a card where I basically chose to get ripped-off. -And the money I overpaid could have been spent on some other new toy.

Haha yeah, that's the same mindset I've been having for the most part.

Sometimes, curiosity gets the best of me and I look on eBay and I SERIOUSLY contemplate on buying a card but then "pre-buyers remorse" kicks in and I'm safe.

I promised Justin I would wait but damn, patience is my biggest weakness.

Be patient and if by Nov 18th still haven't received your email try for a 6800xt, it's looking like a slightly better card and $50 cheaper too.

I know I'll grab whatever comes first.

That was my plan initially, though, my monitor is gsync only so oh well, haha.

EVGA has been great to me over the years and I definitely want to continue getting EVGA cards.

The new AMD cards seem pretty damn powerful but until those drivers are no longer an issue, I'm sticking with Nvidia.

I don't want to derail the thread, so grats to those who have got those cards, and hope there are plenty more to come very soon!

I did want to copy/paste something I said in another thread earlier, in regards to AMD drivers: "Steve Burke reiterated that everyone in AMD has been focused on drivers this time around. Moore's Law is Dead channel said that heads rolled, people were fired/reorganized after the driver problems last time. I'm not usually inclined to immediately believe what he says, but since it supports what Steve already said, I am willing to be hopeful that it's true. And I know from personal experience that AMD can do good drivers- I had a 7970 for years, and the "fine wine" effect was real. I never had a single problem with instability or incompatibility. The 980 Ti I have now has also been pretty free from problems, although I have had a few."

All lipservice until proven otherwise. I'd personally never consider a GPU that wasn't eVGA, but even with CPUs AMD drivers have burned me so many times. Haven't been back since Thuban and I won't even consider anything until I SEE change.

I agree with Celeras. Until we see actual benchmarks with shipping drivers you really won't know with AMD. Maybe their drivers get better over time like you said but Nvidia has never had the same issues AMD has had with software/drivers. Especially at launch. Even those few times many years ago they were kinda competitive on the high end their drivers ruined it, at least for a while after launch. Nvidia has always gone out of their way to work with the developers of all of the AAA games coming out to make sure their drivers are ready day one. I'm sure a lot of you do their surveys as well so they can see what games people interested in so they know what games matter to us. And the popular games always have game ready drivers day one. I would take a wait and see approach to AMD as always. And I saw that MLID video where he said heads rolled at AMD and even if that's true that doesn't mean they actually have good shipping drivers. Heads could have and probably did roll, but that doesn't mean they actually have people there with the same talent as Nvidia's driver team. And really AMD's drivers have been a problem for years (more than a decade? Since ATi?) it's not an easy fix.

Whenever I see the "fine wine" thing I have to chuckle. When your release driver is so bad that, over time, you can dramatically increase your performance isn't something to be proud of, in my opinion. I prefer a stable driver that doesn't deteriorate over time, nor give me double digit increases over time. How can you not feel cheated out of performance if they can, somehow, make the hardware work that much better after a year, or two?

Nvidia has created an environment where more people are willing to take their chances with AMD's graphics cards. The general price/performance of the 3080 and 3070 are both good, but the inability to deliver the product (and to a lesser extent, the skimpy vram capacity) have created an opportunity for AMD.

Not trying to derail the thread, but I am genuinely curious as to why AMD CPUs are so bloody popular! Can't see a current PC build without tripping over an AMD chipset. Is it because they're cheaper than Intel and can multitask better?

CPUs and GPUs are totally different divisions over there. The CPUs have caught up mostly because of Intels complacency and then their inability to deliver on a smaller process node. AMD took advantage of this by offering more cores than Intel for a lower price and then switching to TSMC 7nm all the while catching Intel in a bad spot. They are stuck on 14mn and only recently move to more than 4 cores for mainstream. You cannot really think of Radeon Graphics Team as the same as AMD CPU team. Radeon might have done something better this time, but I would just say wait and see due to past performances. The people who are involved with CPU development have nothing to do with the people who write AMD graphics drivers.

You will be so mad at yourself if you do it. Buying an old architecture will never serve you well. It will age fast and lose value as well. Do yourself a favor and grab a 30 series instead. Once yields pick up at Samsung these cards will be more available. In a short while you will wonder why you even thought about buying last gen. Stock will normalize

@TheBlitzAce and Justin_43: I know... But patience has never been my strong suit. Was going to just play CP2077 on my 1080 and upgrade later, but then I made the mistake of upgrading to a 1440p monitor and watched the demo of CP2077 with raytracing... It burns at me! Feels like I want to channel my inner Golum and chant  "my preciouuuuuuuuuuus!"   D:

Hang in there buddy!  we'll get our cards at some point.  For now, it looks like I'll be using my 1080SC a tad bit more.  But I refuse to succumb to those scalper vermin!  Be strong!!!

I really do appreciate how kind everyone has been through the launch. The EVGA community has some really great people in it, so thank you!

Meh, discord is useless now. At first it was good, but now, sooooo many are using it that if you're literally 10 seconds late on the notification, you're too late.

I don't think there were many emails sent out today, probably because of the election people could be out voting and missed their emails, etc.

Hope tomorrow we get a big drop.

Not to seem like I'm begging or anything (might as well be), if any of you have already received the card you want and you're still on the queue for either a 3080 or 3090, would you be willing to let me take your spot?

Basically, I signed up for all of the cards on 10/20 and it's looking quite grim for a 2020 release for me!

Apologies for the desperation!

Right there with you man! Been looking at a 2080/2070 on amazon, and everytime I add it to the cart I think to myself "don't do it, you buy the card and you'll get an email from EVGA and be SOL cause you blew the money..."

I bought a 2080 Super off Amazon because I sold my 2080Ti a while ago, and have until the end of January to return it. Bastard was charging over 1100 for it. Can't wait to return it lol. Already printed the return shipping lable.

Felt like a "stragglers" drop from yesterday's trifecta.  As I said this morning, I think today is the "lull" between this week's card tsunamis.  Let's hope so anyway.

There is still a chance for a few tonight, but I think it unlikely.
