It is very true. I am just a gaming enthusiast myself. I was a console warrior. With a lot of the popular titles going cross platform, I was like "I'll build a gaming pc for fun". Not knowing the mayhem I stepped into. Now I have a useless rig. I wanted a 3080. I want to finish my build, as it is consuming me. I will not pay the price of a 3090 for a 3080 from a scalper. So, I will be one of those people going for a card I don't NEED, but maybe I can actually get. There is nothing wrong with that. I am looking at it as future proofing 😁

Nope, if you can afford it, there is nothing wrong with it at all. More than a few people who set out to get a 3080 ended up with a 3090 because they could actually get one. Get your rig built. And just so ya know, the last console that I purchased was a Sony PS1. Then I decided to do what you are doing and I never went back.

But a year ago at Christmas, I had just finished playing PS4, got up to shut it down, and had so much static electricity built up, when I reached near the external hard drive I had plugged in, I could see the spark jump. Wrecked all my files, killed the internal hard drive. Spent the next week replacing the internal with a Samsung 2 TB ssd and downloading 1.5 TB of data. I was over console at that moment. To fragile. No back up. No real expansion or upgrades.

At the time the PS1 came out (1995 for the younger folks here), PC tech was advancing rapidly. By the time the newest console would show up the PC's were already beating the pants off of it. Yes, you will pay more for a PC up front, but with an upgrade or two, or not, PC's will survive beyond one console generation. And you don't even need to build a top-end-most-expensive-everything PC to make that happen either. I realized the same thing that you realized, that consoles always have that ugly, planned obsolescence vibe about them. The gamepad is another limiting factor as well. Consoles are fine for younger kids, but anyone who is a serious gamer and knows how to use a screwdriver will have more fun with a PC. And, of course, PC's are good for a lot more than just games.
 
And if you do end up getting "stuck" with a 3090, at least you will have a card that you won't even need to think about replacing for at least 5 years. Probably more. Games that you might want a 3090 for are still a long ways off.

Funny and useless toy.
 
First: It not "magically" discharges you - you have to expect discharge and manually use this thing for this purpose. I think CJK5353 did not expect to discharge static electricity into his PS4.
Second: this "Static Eliminator Discharger" is a keychain... but static electricity can be easily discharged using metal key.

Why you can't do it with key that you already have? It not so fancy(key doesn't have fancy light inside) but it "absolutely work to discharge the buildup of static electricity".

^^ literally any metal will work. Grounded metal works better.

Most pc cases are grounded through psu casing using the earth ground of your power cable 😆
