I may have to move to this coming soon Intel’s 9th Generation Processor to replace my current Core i7-8700K and not use LM on the CPU Die. Fall Time looks good for this Project so I have some time to allow EVGA to release a New Bios or even a New Motherboard.

I was wandering this as well. im looking to upgrade from my z97 4790k @4.8 ghz to one of the new 9th gen cpus and just picked up a z370 classified on sale. also would I be able to update Bios without 8th gen CPU?

Hey Jacob can you confirm with the team if the latest bios version is necessary to boot with the new 9th gen processors? I ordered a Z370 FTW from Newegg a month ago on 9/7/2018 and I'm not sure if it'll post with the new CPU. Is there any way to check if its flashed to a high enough bios update? My MB is still new in box.

FYI, i ordered my Z370 micro straight from EVGA a few weeks ago, and it did not come with 1.08, but rather 1.07.

i have flashed it to 1.08 already in preparation for the 9th gen chips, but be careful if you order the board and expect it to come with 1.08 already, as it may not.

I'd hope we get some official confirmation, eventually, but there have been people who used the 8086k cpu with bioses from March/released prior to the June 8086k launch.  It would have suffered the same issue of not being in a cpu lookup table, but with specs compatible with bios-supported cpus.

Generally, I don't believe we have a processor to test on the boards to confirm, but I've not seen anyone have an issue POSTing with an 8086K.

9th gen processors work on Z370 but 8th gen don't work on Z390. Right?

Socket LGA1151, 8th Gen Coffee Lake-S CPUs are supported on Z390.

Ok. Thank you. I must have gotten confused when they said it is not compatible with older LGA 1151, meaning kaby lake, etc.

It should run fine.  I haven't fully updated the compatibility list for Z390 FTW, but our Z390 boards support the i5 8500, and I don't see a reason the Z370's shouldn't either.  Most likely, our MB team simply didn't have one to test at the time during the Z370 launch.

How can I tell what bios my board has?... z370 classified k. and the only cpu i have is i5 9600k which is posting error code 18. Was getting code 55 and I removed one of 4 ram sticks which let it get by the error 55 and now stopped on error 18. There are no beeps and there is no signal to monitor. I just received my MB about 2 weeks ago hoping it was flashed to 1.8 ...so I am stuck with this dilemma Should I pay the 20-30 dollars for postage to rma or should i get local shop to flash it or buy the cheapest Celeron G4900 flash pc myself and resell the Celeron G4900 ... Would of been so much easier if it was checked For the updated bios before it left EVGA.

Yup all EVGA Z370's have full support with the latest BIOS update.

Jacob, has anyone from EVGA tested the turbo boost behaviour of an i9-9900k in a Z370 Classified K (using BIOS 1.08)? With the "BIOS Multiplier Control" left at AUTO, I get a 4.7GHz boost across all cores by default when running a stress test across all cores. If I run a CineBench R15.038 single-core test, again it boosts to 4.7GHz, not the 5GHz that the specs for the 9900k touts. For the record, I'm running a full custom loop and haven't run into any thermal throttling with either the board or the CPU.

From what I've tested, it looks like a new BIOS release may be necessary to gain the "full support" you mentioned earlier in this thread.

I have the same problem, i have z370 with i7 9700K There are no beeps and there is no signal monitor. I connected the monitor with output video of the motherboard and video card.
    ¿Could you solve the problem?

Also if someone could confirm that Intel Celeron G4900 is the cheapest CPU that fits the Z370 FTW, that would be helpful.

Re: EVGA Z370 support of new Intel CPU's (9th gen) 2018/12/09 22:51:03 (permalink)
I would buy a EVGA Z370 Classified K from Amazon (EVGA being the vendor) only if the motherboard ships with BIOS that supports I7-9700K. I would prefer EVGA motherboard over buying ASRock Z390 PHANTOM GAMING SLI motherboard. Can this be assured?

Hi there, I got the same problem. Just bought the Z370 and 9600k from amazon. Try to plug everything in and got code 18

Your bios needs to be updated.

For all those having the issue with BIOS not updated to support 9th Gen processors. I'm having the same issue. I'm going out to pick up the Celeron G4900 processor tomorrow and will try to use this to boot system, update BIOS and reinstall my 9700K.

I'm thinking that this should work so fingers crossed. I will post back to confirm once upgrade is done. Hopefully in the next day or two.

If you don't want to send your board to EVGA in order to update BIOS so that the 9th gen Intel processors work you CAN purchase the Intel Celeron G4900 (about $45 new) to get past POST and update BIOS yourself. After the update, you can reinstall your 9th gen processor.
