Hey guys i need help. i did my first over clocking last time and i set it to 4.6Mhz at all cores and it was running at 4.6mhz all the time, then i tried bumping it up to 4.7Mhz and now it fluctuates down like this except when it its working 100% it is on 4.7Mhz. Any suggestion or ideas to make it work at 4.7Mhz again?

Hm, i have the Same Mainbord as Jacob, and I dont have the overclocking Tab Layout like him. Im using the newest BIOS, he had 1.01...

And I dont know why, but CPU Z doesnt Show my BIOS Settings. The 6700k is still at 4ghz and not 4.8 with my voltage - why? C States, Eist deactivated

(EVGA z170 Stinger) with newest Bios

I prefer Adaptive voltage as opposed to override on Sandy/Ivy/Skylake platforms. I just have better voltage stability and generally better overclocks with adaptive instead of overriding. Overriding can cause some oddities sometimes at least in my experience.

Hi Jacob, could you please tell me what test you ran on Prime95 (Blend? max temp?) also what version of Prime95 you were using? I have a custom loop water cooled PC, Same processor, memory and motherboard as you but my temps during the test were close to 78C.. at stock values my CPU stays at 22C and under load max 36C - 40C so something doesn't add up in my case.

Thanks in advance

Are you on air as well? Prime will beat up that cpu I had high temps think 75 or so in prime but my rig is 100% air cooled via Skylake i6700k

Normal conditions 28C idle up to 65-68 in Battlefield 1 with all kinds of other stuff running and OBS streaming in HD @ 60fps no capture card or anything just straight run off my build

So you're saying your OC is not staying @ 4.7 100% of the time like just on desktop with task manager open the clocks will fall to 1.6ghz when cores are not in use then jump to 4.6-4.7 when opening a application?

What is your PCs power plan on I have seen mine on a reformat fresh install do this once before setting my pc's power plan up

Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options

Custom / HIGH PERFORMANCE

Give that a shot and try monitoring with HWinfo very good program

I just bought and put my Classified K + 6700K together last week and I noticed that when disabling turbo it ignores the multiplier setting and the CPU won't go above above the default multiplier (in my case, 40 for a 6700K). When upping the multiplier w/ turbo disabled, UEFI setup reports the correct target speed but in reality it won't exceed 40.

I realized your post was 3 weeks ago at this time, it should probably be worth noting. Leave turbo on.

Something weird. My turbo core clock is the same as stock or below even though I'm overclocked to 4.6 following Jacob's Overclocker's guide. Been doing overclocking for years! What did I do wrong? Below is from my score result.
Sometimes it even Shows 4,000 MHz and turbo is Lower at 3,800MHz???? MY TURBO IS ON.

Problem description Overclocking as usual. SET TO 4.6 in bios. Not sure what I'm missing, or have forgotten. I followed EVGAJacobF overclocking guide again. All of a sudden after countless successes, I'm getting a turbo result below or equal to my Stock Core Clock
Please be as specific as possible

Steps taken so far to resolve the issue
Please be as specific as possible, also if possible, please put them in order, as in some cases that can make a difference.
RESET BIOS, USED OTHER AVAILABLE BIOS SELECTIONS. Followed Overclocking guide. Research on google.

Followed some EVGA Forum advice.

  • Made sure EIST was on.
  • Set as Adaptive, changed offset to 0 and set a Target voltage.
  • Turned off/on C1
  • Checked Power Management in control panel. =Set to High Performance.

Re: EVGA Z170 Overclocking Guide 2016/12/11 17:26:32 (permalink)
I thought I solved this but here is some of the things I've done since I posted my trouble:
I had a profile setup in EVGA E-LEET Tuning Utility X which I must have hit save profile by accident because I don't remember setting it. It may have been set before I started overclocking again. The kicker was, I had the (Run on Startup) under that profile selected in the E LEET Utility. So every time I rebooted my machine after setting the overclocks in the bios, the utility would run on startup and override anything I had done in the Bios. Once I unchecked the setting to start the tuning utility, and restarted my computer, my overclocking in 3D Mark started showing the true turbo results! <-  WRONG

After a successful overclock with the selected multiplier I started EVGA E-LEET Tuning Utility to see the specs. It showed the proper MHz of 4.7. Then I closed the utility and ran another bench mark on the same 4.7Mhz settings. My results again were reported stock clock of 4,000 with Max turbo core clock of 4,000. Even with the Bios multiplier of 4.7 and a previously successful result ????!!!!! So this time I uninstalled EVGA E-LEET Tuning Utility and rebooted. I checked my multiplier with RealTemp and it showed the proper 4.7MHz. I ran another benchmark in 3D Mark and the results:
Reported stock core clock 4,000MHz
Maximum turbo core clock 3,998MHz.  ?????  Hello! What?
STUMPED!

After much consideration and testing, I believe this is from unstable conditions at high settings. Once I started testing it with a multiplier of 4.6 or below with the proper voltage offset, I have had positive results. I think this is resolved in my estimation.

Thanks, Bret

Re: EVGA Z170 Overclocking Guide 2017/03/21 13:46:56 (permalink)
My core speed drops when running prime95.
My Settings:
Corespeed: 48
VCore: Adaptive
Target Voltage: 1.325
Offset Voltage: +100

Energy Settings are on high performance.
In Idle I get ~4800Mhz but under load it drops instantly to ~4400Mhz.

Someone know how to fix this?

CPU-Z does not report correct voltages with these boards. For this reason I cannot recommend CPU-Z with current EVGA boards. You will need to use EVGA's ELEET to properly read the core voltage. http://www.evga.com/eleet/  As for your question, fluctuations in core speed are completely normal. If it remains at 4400Mhz for a long period, ensure in the UEFI you have set your multipliers for each core correctly.

AIDA64 Extreme (beta)Trial version, portable ZIP package5.80.4098 Mar 14, 2017

the sensor readings can cover the ones you need.

The 30 day version does blank a few items but you may get the ones you want
for those that remember this was at onetime  Lavalys product Everest.

They seem very good about updating their software for new chips and at least for MSi motherboards

I was able to pull the fastest DDR4 timings on all of Userbenchmark for dual-channel with the Classified-K for almost a year. Mostly satisfied with the upfront cost.

Two TridentZ b-die sticks and long hours to get latency rivaling 1N at times, with bandwidth capping at .3Gbps under the IMC maximum. 6700k was at 4.4ghz for this. Was a good time.

With a TPM, more UEFI protections, and more confidence in the software/driver/BIOS page, would buy another EVGA mobo without question for every PC I build and recommend.
