Iamrogue
anyone OCed 6950X of FTW??

I got this on auto and its stable, any tips how to go further or lower the temps?

I assume by "on auto" you mean the vcore?  If so, you can typically use less vcore to be stable then by leaving it on auto.  Auto mode generally sets the vcore much higher than is needed.  Less voltage = less heat.

Hello guys,

I am new to this forum. I just purchased a brand new classified x99 with a i7 5960x when I try to play with the oc the best im able to reach is 3.75Mhz and that is setting the bclk to 125 flat. other than that I am manually setting the multiplier to 35 and the pc wont boot up. is it because of my voltage?? dont know what to do anymore I had to reboot my motherboard twice I am afraid i might damage something. Note: I carefully read forums and what nots before I do anything with my pc"s. Thanks in advance

On my FTW K I am able to get 4.6 on my 5820k. To achieve this I have to manually put my 2800 ram to 2667 everything else auto. Manual clock for the processor 46 all cores everything else auto.

So far I reinstalled windows and i was able to achieve 4.3 (43x100) super stable and my ram untouched...next thing im going to try is 4.5 (45x100) voltage auto and maybe pump the ram to 2200mhz....note: I have a h100i corsair v2 liquid cooler

I really want to be able to achieve a good speed for gaming and video rendering with the ram being a bit overclocked as well

That's because you brought back your BLCK to 100 instead of 125 which is needed for 2800 and 3000.  125 is just problematic for this boards and CPUs.

Hi group,

Would the instructions on this thread be the same for the below setup, or do I need to know anything more without causing any damage?

Which instructions?  What you're looking for would be really helpful. If you're just looking for a mild overclock, that's pretty easy: For the most part, with BIOS updates (you have updated your BIOS, right?)  simply finding your voltage for your CPU clocks is fairly straight forward using adaptive voltage. With 96GB of memory, you may have some trouble using that with XMP, you didn't specify your memory speed.
If you're looking to push the envelope that takes more work...but I suspect, with 96GB you're just looking for a reasonable OC to gain some 'free' performance.

@HeavyHemi

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, im not looking at pushing the machine to its absolute maximum, but rather just (comfortably) trying to get the most of my machine.
RAM speed is 2666.

"Which Instructions" - I meant the ones on page 1 of this thread, I also found this link:  which seems to be pushing the machine to its absolute capacity, which makes me a tad nervous with how to set the voltage etc.. It would be really helpful for a n00b like myself to get a simple set of instructions on how to get this. I did read the 6 pages of this thread before asking.

Will update the BIOS right away.  If you could Kindly help me with what voltage is "healthy" and if theres anything else I should know, would be great help. I just want to bump up the performance of CPU a bit.

As for voltage, there's a bit of debate about it but I wouldn't put in more than 1.375V. That's my own personal comfort level for both the 5000 and 6000 series processors on the X99 platform.

Of course, how good your cooling is dictates how much voltage you can use. Edit: and how long you want the processor to not degrade!
