I have my EVGA X79 Classified Motherboard in hand now and now I am looking for the lowest cost Graphics card to put on it for Folding. I am looking to use only EVGA Cards and less than $60-$80 Each and will use all 5 Slots. CPU: i7-3970X or i7-3930K Memory: Vengeance Blue 16GB CMZ16GX3M4A2133C11B GPU: ? Thanks I was surprised that I could not put the X79 Classified in a 800D case and put it in a Cooler Master HAF X - Full Tower Computer Case.

Using all 5 slots would require at least 2 single slot GPUs and EVGA's best would be the 640. It is not all that good of a folder in my research, and it still costs $100 retail (B-stock is sold out of the single slots). I believe you would have better luck spending 100-130 each on 3-4 cards. You should be able to find some 650ti's in that price range (Some in B-Stock atm). Those were decent folders when I last used them, around 15k ppd each on core 15. I cannot comment on how they do with core17, as I replaced them before that evolution.

If your planning on spending up to 400.00 on 5 cards maybe a better idea might be to get 2 x 760's at 500.00 and about 130k ppd. core 17 less on core 15. And you could always add another card later.

Thanks, for now I will use the 2 GTX 660Ti. I was then thinking that I could use a low end card like a GT 6xx for the OS and Fold on the 660Ti's. They did do well under Ubuntu 12.04. Looking at b-stock as well. As long as I can stay way from Core 15's I should do ok for the upcoming CC Time Zone.

Thanks, I think it will take me about 3 months to complete the last of my Folding Rigs so that is a better time for me. I would like to complete at lest the my last GPU Folding Rig in time I hope for Time Zone then. I am putting together one more 4P for next Spring. Sometimes it is hard to keep up with all what is going on in our Folding Team.

I found 3 EVGA GeForce GTX 760 SC 4GB DisplayPort HDMI DVI-I/DVI-D Graphics Card with ACX Cooler 04G-P4-2768-KR on Amazon for $290.00 so I went ahead and ordered them today. So I will benchmark them under 3-Way SLI then when the Time Zone Contest starts up I will start Folding them.

I have one of those single slot 640's lying around. Not a great folder but you might use it for the monitor. PM me if you're still thinking about it.

It looks like I have a Bad Memory Slot (#2) bad, cost to send in the MB and return to EVGA and back would cost more the than the cost if I got it from EVGA in the first place. I will see how it goes for the next two weeks before I send it in under RMA. Also note that I may not buy from Tiger Direct anymore. Other than the memory issue on the MB my new 760's are on the way and amazon upped the price to $299.99 so in a way I did get a $10.00 rebate on each card.

Thanks, I think I will give the 660Ti as Primary OS Card and Fold on the 760's. Will post setting once I start Folding at it uses to much power.
