Hello...
I have an old x58 computer.
I've installed Windows 10, from a thumb drive, before.
For some reason, it's giving me fits with the May 2019 update.
I used Media Creation Tool to download the x32/x64 combo ISO.
I used Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool and Rufus to create the bootable thumb drive.
I tried a 64GB Samsung and a 16GB Kingston thumb drive.
No matter what I try, the computer just refuses to boot from the drive.
When using Rufus, I use MBR (since I don't have EUFI).
Can any of you guys give me a little insight to what my problem might be?

Thanks...
JJ

I just created a Windows 7 thumb drive and it worked just fine.
It's almost as though the May 2019 update started requiring UEFI, but I haven't seen anything that would suggest that.

It could be that or the only other thing I can think of is it may be because of the type of thumb drive. Back in x58's time you had to have special thumb drives that were designated for booting with, not sure if that's still the case.

In Rufus, keep all of the defaults once you choose the ISO. I only use Rufus 2.18 since I'm not a fan of the newer version. No need to change anything. I've done clean installs on several computers CSM/native/BIOS without issues using Rufus 2.18.

I want to restate that the motherboard doesn't have an issue booting from all thumb drives or OSs.
It just refuses to boot Windows 10 1903 from a thumb drive.

I want to say that I feel like a moron.
I'm not sure what the deal was, but it seems to be working just fine now.
I used the same thumb drive, the same ISO, and the same Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool and it booted.
One difference that may be worth noting, though...
When I hit Esc at startup and choose Removable Device (or whatever), it says No Bootable Device Found (or something like that).
All I have to do is hit Enter and it boots from the thumb drive.
I was assuming that it would show the bootable drive, so I wasn't even trying.
Now it seems that I would have tried that, so I'm not sure why I wasn't able to get it working.
Everything seems fine (although I'm not sure why it says there isn't a bootable device, when there is).

    You know what's even worse?
I've been trying to boot from the thumb drive the wrong way, this whole time.
I've been trying to boot from it from Removable Devices.
Apparently, the thumb drive is part of Hard Drives.
I chose Hard Drives (instead of Removable Devices) and the thumb drive was right there.
I may be dense, but a thumb drive kind of seems like a removable device to me.
    Hehehe...
A hard drive kind of seems like something internally installed.

Yes, and every motherboard is different. When you're using several computers as a tech like me, I've seen it all.
