I've received my mouse and had a quick play with it last night. Here is my thoughts so far:
Packaging is presented very nice, the box and the way it's displayed is awesome, +1 there. Taking it out, you get the mouse, tool to adjust the height and some weights. In a small envelope, there's some extra "feet" for the mouse (not sure if it's the same that's currently used or just meant to be replacements if the old ones wears out), but this is a nice touch, again, +1. Looking at the mouse, build quality is great, I personally think it wouldn't matter if you got this in the normal or carbon version as it's just ascetics that would put it aside. So I'll go over the good then the bad:
1. Build quality is great!
2. Scroll wheel, OK, now here I must admit, you guys nailed this, it's almost porn for my finger, that's how good the scroll wheel feels!
3 Design, something different to look at.
Now the bad, you guys will hate me for this but there are 3 main flaws with this mouse, for me at least:
1. The side buttons, guys, listen, this is just FAIL. Those red buttons feels like it will break off after a week, do something about it ASAP! The buttons flexes more than a body builder busting a lift in the gym.
2. Height adjustment, this in mind is also a gimmick, if you use a "claw grip" on this mouse, it's useless unless you're 10 years old and your hands could slip through time and space, it might be for you, my hands are massive, so for me, useless.
3. Weighting system, now, as mentioned, I've got big hands, and I struggled to remove the top cover to access the compartments for the weights to go in. I was on the brink of ripping the mouse apart. This could have been my sample, but, this in my mind is fail anyhow....if that plate breaks off, you're stuck to RMA the mouse. I'd say bottom access for the weights would be more preferred.
So, as you guys can see, I'd say it's a 50/50 for me. If I saw a video review of someone flexing those red side buttons, I'd already go somewhere else and be like "take my money".....for that reason alone, I would NOT buy this mouse.
The software is alright, it looks good, but it could do with tweaking. You've got this nice "rev counter" look going with the DPI adjustment, but you have to manually click a bloody button to adjust this, you can't click on the slider... would be much easier. Other than this, I didn't have any issues getting used to the software.
Play time!
It took me about 10 minutes to get the mouse set up. I jumped straight into BF4 and started to play. Straight off the bat, it took me another 5 minutes "tuning" the mouse in-game to get the sweet spot. Overall, it took me a couple of rounds to get fully used to the mouse. I didn't see any lag or stutter in game and played fine. I could reach all the buttons OK to do what I do best, and the "on the fly" DPS system worked like a charm. All in all it took me a bit longer to get used to this mouse for some reason. There's nothing wrong, but each game I went to, it felt like I had to "adjust" the way I do or play to get used to it.
I'm not a professional gamer or reviewer of hardware, this is my first written review of something so please forgive me if I've made any mistakes in this review. This is only my experience so far with the mouse and will include a follow up after some time using the mouse further.
My final thoughts would be that, if I was in the market for a new mouse, this wouldn't be my first choice, there's better mice to be had for the money. If the issues gets addressed, then I might be swayed. All in all, not a bad "first attempt", it's still a sick looking mouse!
Day 2:
After playing a few games again, I though I'd give the top part a crack again to put in weights. I got it off this time, but man, what a struggle. To be honest, I stick with my original verdict of bottom weights is better, changing this will result in breakage.
The second thing is, my mouse somehow became "loose" and developed a small "wiggle" in the middle body. This could be due to the fact that I tried to "man handle" the thing by opening the top for weights, so already, on day 2, I feel as if I broke it. The wiggle is just fine enough to irritate the **** out of me each time I nudge the mouse with my finger.
Lastly, I only game a few hours at night, I'll have to put in a weekend session to see how it handles my wrists, on this front I can't complain so far, but we will see this weekend coming.
