Hey guys, I'm planning on pre-ordering that sweet lappy, sadly I could only order it through Xotic PC, as they are the only ones that ship to my country. My question is, why does the SC17 looks underpowered when I buy it from Xotic Pc... When trying to add it to the cart, I'm redirected to the customization menu, and every single specs of the laptop is under powered. From the Ram speed up till the network module. Is it supposed to be underpowered from Xotic PC?

Define "underpowered". Wattage is low? Voltage is low? Frequency is low? Lower compared to what? Lower than EVGA advertises? Lower than some other brands?

Lower specs from whats advetised by EVGA. The ram speed from example, from 2666mhz, down to 2133mhz in their customization menu. From an Intel 8620 network module, down to 8260.

The specs listed on Xotic PC's websites are exactly the same as the one on EVGA's website. Only problem is when in the customization menu, I just can't seem to pick the same specs that it should have. Some are downgraded. I'm new to the whole computer stuff by the way. Help. :v

On that website when you go here: http://www.xoticpc.com/evga-sc17.html Choose add to cart only and don't choose the customize option

I've tried that. Somehow everytime I add it directly to my cart, I'd get redirected to the customization menu, and requested to purchase additional warranty (which I can't runaway from). *sigh* Looks like I"ll have to go for the other option I have, the new razer blade.

I think I would say away from http://www.xoticpc.comThey Force you to buy a 3 Year Plan ($245.00) and they do knock down the Memory to 2133MHz EVGA SC17 SKU: 123457-11800-12059-12650-13810-11992-6687-13552-6874-10864-14153-13736-13863-hc21332x16stock-13931 Warranty1 x 3 Year Parts & LIFETIME Ltd Labor Warranty + LIFETIME Tech Support $245.00 Ram *- 16GB (1x16GB) DDR4 2133MHz Dual Channel Memory (Downgrade)(SKU: 2133dgto1x16) [ -$60.00 ]
- 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 2133MHz Dual Channel Memory Default(SKU: hc21332x16stock)
I wonder if they are removing the 2666MHz Memory and putting in 2133MHZ memory, I would think that EVGA would not approve of this. EVGA SC17 SKU: 123457-11800-12059-12650-13810-11993-6687-13552-6874-10864-14153-13736-13863-hc21332x16stock-13931 Warranty1 x 3 Year Parts & LIFETIME Ltd Labor Warranty Tech Support w/ LCD Accidental Damage Protection $349.00 Is on the Where To Buy List and are the only ones that allow you to customize it.

XoticPC gets the laptop from EVGA with 2666 MHz RAM, removes it, saves it to sell to other people for extra price, and installs cheaper slower memory? That's crazy. If it isn't a typo, EVGA should be on the phone right now scolding them and threatening to terminate their agreement.

That's not fair at all. They choose GSkill RAM probably because performance and customers should get that. Not to terminate agreement only to warn them. Sometimes in very expensive laptops people could find cheapest SSD available and some low cost RAM only to match as advertised size and people can't check so easy as in desktop. Good decision to install M.2 NVMe from Samsung as OS device. With him customers will be in line with desktop performance few years not limited on SATA III.

I like how XoticPC has a $35 option and $89 option for (dead pixel warranty), when EVGA has a ZERO Dead Pixel Warranty on the laptop by default. Nothing like a retailer trying to get a customer to pay for something that is FREE from the mfg.
Zero Dead Pixel Warranty:This Limited Warranty covers the Laptop Monitor during the warranty term.- EVGA has a Zero Dead Pixel Warranty which means that our monitor is warranted to be free from any Dead Pixels.
- *Dead pixels are defined as pixels that are bright, stuck, dark or unresponsive or improperly responsive to the video input.
- This warranty does not cover failures caused by improper cleaning or maintenance, accidents, misuse, modifications to the product, damage, or any other event or act outside of EVGA’s control.

That is good. Thank you! Seems like they removed the requirement to buy a warranty from them for many hundreds of dollars and have fixed the memory frequency issue. Both are really good changes. They are still trying to sell customers an additional dead pixel warranty on a product which already comes with a dead pixel warranty, which seems a bit strange, but maybe the warranties are different and they add some value.

Dear EVGA and friends, This is, ironically, the ideal business laptop for people who need power, but no ECC, &c. Only question, pertaining only to linux kernel users, such as myself: from bugzilla "Basically it affects every system, which has a Realtek ALC255 sound card and the internal microphone not directly connected to it hardware wise. " this is a known ALC driver issue, so is the internal microphone wired to card? Thank you for your response. Martin

My SC17 order with XOTIC PC just hit the processed stage! I purchased there because they offered the option to replace the 1TB HD with a 2TB model, as well as Win 10 Pro. (Being able to remote into the machine is a requirement.) This will be a desktop-replacement laptop used for development and occasional gaming. It's replacing a much older WUXGA laptop. Stepping down to FHD and losing screen real-estate was a hard thing to accept and so I was waiting for higher-resolution screens to finally appear in 17" laptops. (It's been quite a few years of waiting on that criteria!) The top factors for the purchase were: - Screen resolution to display a lot of text clearly. - High-end processor and memory, good enough graphics that it'll play most games on an external monitor. - Ideally without silly juvenile glowing logos all over it. The SC17 was the first 4K 17" laptop to hit the market with 4K, the 6820HK processor, and not making an unjustifiable cost-saving tradeoff (competitors deployed graphics cards with only 3G memory ??). An extra $400-$500 for the GTX 980 MXM card didn't seem quite worth the price bump. Manufacturer reputation was a big factor. MSI and ASUS would both have been fine, but MSI isn't selling a 4K laptop with these spec options yet, and ASUS retracted their announced 4K offerings entirely. Early reviews of the SC17 build quality and EVGA's work on other hardware were enough for me to trust to buying a first laptop offering. Thanks for making a laptop in the class I've been hoping to purchase for a couple years now. Can't wait to get it!

I Just wish it had Thunderbolt 3 through the USB 3.1 Type C and it would have been a contender for me. Hopefully the next version will have this feature that i feel is important to me to be able to use the laptop as future graphics cards are released the external dock option would be a great selling point. The option to have a simple dock at work while having the external graphics dock at home, this flexibility with the port would then allow for the removal of the 2 mini display ports or drop to maybe just 1.

I'm a Linux sorta guy. I have a pretty strong dislike for Microsoft. If I'm going to run a MS machine, I want it to be XP or Win7. I suppose that I can replace WinX with Linux, but will I be able to find all the drivers? Even if I do, the machine won't be "tweaked" to the same level that a WinX installation is. The reviews and the specs are really tempting, but WinX rained all over that parade.

Linux isn't exactly the strongest gaming platform. Windows 10 with DX12 is currently top dog for gaming. The SC17 specs really shine through with Windows 10.

You're not going to get a laptop chassis this small and light if you have full sockets for the CPU and GPU, not no mention cooling issues. The specs ARE enthusiast level.

And there are laptops out there that match the SC17's price with 6700K and 980 desktop (200w) So, sacrificing upgrade capability for thin? Doesn't sound like an "Enthusiast" action to do.

LOL are you serious? The laptops you mention probably weigh 2 or 3 times what the SC17 does, and a LOT bulkier. The point of a laptop is portability. If you don't want portability, go get a desktop, lol. The SC17 provides enthusiast level performance (including ease of overclocking) while retaining light-weight portability and size. That's actually a GOOD thing with laptops. Also as pointed out, the SC17 is geared for gaming and overclocking. Maybe EVGA will make a big-ass heavy 17+" giant laptop with full CPU and GPU sockets down the line, which will no doubt draw similar comments to yours for the opposite reasons. This is their first ever laptop released, and it is very impressive even for any established manufacturers, let alone for a first effort! Of course haters gonna hate, no matter what, lol.

And the P870DM can pull close to 700w while overclocking dual 980M + 6700K. I'd imagine the SC17 melting the bga solder points at that time lol.

"The SC17 was the first 4K 17" laptop to hit the market with 4K, the 6820HK processor" That statement right there is 100% incorrect. Alienware has had that option in their top end 17.3" Laptop since last year, the 17 R3 to be exact Plus 8gb vram, Though I think the 8gb vram was sometime this year they did that part, but still before EVGA. Really, other than maybe size this laptop is damn near identical to the Alienware 17 R3 that has been around since last year sometime. Main differences between the 2 would be the Alienware has Thunderbolt 3, and if you where so inclined has the ability to purchase the graphics Amp and upgrade your GPU, granted your losing maybe 5% performance on the GPU you do put in there but still it is an upgrade path that is not at all available to this laptop let alone the price tags are more or less identical as well. So with one you can either get the Alienware Graphics Amp or even a Thunderbolt 3 Graphics Amp for the ability to upgrade the GPU, with the other you do not have that path to even think about, Just smaller package. Plus there are a bunch of other options out there that have the 6820HK processor, though you may be sacrificing 4K on most of them, but most of the others also do have Thunderbolt 3. I really don't understand EVGA not including Thunderbolt 3 in this Laptop, I mean it is meant to be an enthusiasts laptop right? Last I checked most enthusiast's are looking forward to Thunderbolt 3 and the GPU Upgradability to Desktop performance GPU's because of it, even with a few percentage decay in performance it still offers a forward path that is really quite lacking in this machine.
