Anyone else with a SC15 seeing the CPU temps hitting over 100C while playing games? In BF1 and PUBG I am getting temps over 100C on the CPU :( Doesn't seem like this has good heat dissipation at all.

I flashed the laptop to the lastest Firmware. Internal fans are running at Full blast as well!

Image is from the end of my game session. Was hovering between 91C and 100C for over an hour :(

Try running a cooling pad under it and maybe a fan on the counter or desk blowing air onto it to help out. Laptops only have limited air movement with tiny 20mm fans

100C is not normal neither acceptable.....return if you can.

    r
cooling fan..really.....is that your suggestin for a fualty laptop?.

I don’t see how it’s faulty. He most likely has dust build up inside the fans etc blocking optimal airflow, and ontop of that i7 7700hq’s run freaking hot as it is.

Its a Brand new laptop. Just received last Saturday. This is NOT a Dust issue. Its on a clean desk surface.

Called EVGA and I can only return to get fixed (re-paste the CPU). No chance of a refund, unless I want to pay a 15% re-stocking fee. I told them this isn't working to spec. They said as long as it turns on its a good laptop. I told them I am doing Gaming on a Gaming laptop...not work processing.... Still won't do a 100% refund. Nice :(

Sucks EVGA doesn't do a better QC of these before being sold.

Then yes it is an issue. Call evga on their 24/7 phone service they will sort you out. Most likely a faulty bios or a bad fan controller.

What's the big deal? Evga is known for their customer support. Send it in to have them fix it. Yeah its frustrating but it's not like they are gonna just do nothing.

I just wanna say on day one my laptop cpu got that hot too, and the fix was undervolting the processor. Shed off 25-30 degrees Celsius easily. Intels fault for giving laptop processor desktop voltage and not addressing that.

I did increments of -0.010 mV until I encountered a crash/bsod in prime95 then I tested in games and had to lower it a touch due to crash in game. But if you undervolt you extend the life of your cpu and lower cpu and gpu temps as they share the heatpipes, letting one offload it’s temps onto the others heatpipes. Really smart design.

I'm not running the same model, but I can say that the SC17 with 6820hk was running just as hot during my first week with it. It was burning my legs when I tried playing PUBG or running benchmarks in "Super Clock" mode. Peaked around 101*C.

I ended up doing the same thing you did, undervolting the vcore to 1040mV and running 37 mult on Core 1 with 36 on Core 2-4 on PrecisionX Mobile. Stress tested on AIDA64 for over a half hour. Temps are hitting mid to high 70s on CPU when gaming and the 980M is getting to high 60s/low 70s @1262. Cinebench showed less than a 10% hit on performance over SC mode. Considering I was upgrading from a 5 year old A10 laptop and got it for under a grand on black friday, I'm happy with the purchase.

How do you modify in PrescisionX Mobile? I see the CPU greyed out :( No option to select the CPU. Do I need a unlocked BIOS to do this?

    Download Intel XTU to undervolt.

I used the custom tabs on left side to test the clock speed and undervolt, then went into the BIOS to set it. It appears as the "Custom" tab above Super Clock.

100C is unnacceptable on any laptop.   Since it is a HQ chip, not an HK CPU like on the S17, naturally it can't be overclocked and some funtions in the precision x sofware will be greyed out, just like RGB keybord is greyed out on mine but available on the SC15.

The SC15 overclock funtion in only for the GPU, no the the CPU.

Tried to use Intel xtu and undervolt the cpu by 115 or so, but when I move the slider over and click apply and save I dont see it dropping in volts :( Guess I am doing this wrong. Temps still hit 99C.

Are you monitoring the voltage change with cpuz? Intel xtu doesn’t update the stats properly when you apply changes for viewing. Are your laptop fans ramping up properly?

What fan profile are you guys using? Do you just use the MAX FAN speed button? Or do you use the fan profile when play games?

I played some PUBG last night with the MAX FAN speed set and I will still hitting +85C

I use the boost fan button when I game and it keep temps in the low mid 70s along with my cooling pad while I play Ghost Recon.  With out it the keyboard gets hot to the touch.

Hi SC15 owner here! I know this is couple months old threat, but I have same problem. I managed to get GPU working fine and staying 60-70C when stress testing or playing games, but CPU heat is still a problem. Undervolted i7 7700HQ -85mV solved problem.

I would say everything is fine , Prime is not a normal state I would say it’s only good to test for bluescreens on Notebooks because every Notebook will run hot with Prime , if your temp doesn’t rise instantly to 100 degrees and while gaming and normal work it does not throttling I would say everything is good

Hi SC15 owner here! I know this is couple months old threat, but I have same problem. I managed to get GPU working fine and staying 60-70C when stress testing or playing games, but CPU heat is still a problem. Undervolted i7 7700HQ -85mV, couldnt get -100mV without Prime95 crashing, but temps get to over 80C still when stress testing. I tested with heavy load Prime95 test for 10 minutes, CPU got to 89C and started power throttling.

So is there anything else to try to lower CPU temp? Im already using cooling pad under my laptop. And I use my laptop mainly for gaming.

If you want realistic statistics, download Afterburner with Rivatuner and put on the screen overlay during gameplay. You can customize for CPU temps and %, GPU temps and %, VRAM, RAM, etc etc. There's nothing to worry about if temps get to 75-80 during gameplay. Synthetic benchmarks are good for testing worst case scenario or checking maximum performance, but you aren't going to see that amount of abuse from average gamepay with optimized settings. Limiting framerate and dropping settings can reduce load % on the CPU/GPU and that will lower overall temps.

Got GPU to stay at 75C or below, and now got CPU to run on 75-82 C, without disabling turbo boost.

82*C is still pretty hot for only running at 3.4GHz, or atleast that's what I assume your 7700hq is limited to for gaming. Are you getting over 50% CPU utilization while gaming? If you're really trying to drop the heat, capping the FPS to 60 should improve thermals but then you're giving up the benefit of a 120hz panel.

As for the random FPS drops, try these:

    Update to newest NVIDIA drivers
Make sure you're on high performance power mode, not that crap balanced one
If you have the space, reinstall the game on the SSD and retest
Check in-game overlay to see if there's an issue with RAM or VRAM choking the system(overclocking the GPU can also cause issues)
If the problem persists, you can attempt a fresh windows install
