Wow. It’s obvious the cpu is getting hotter than normal. I have this laptop and my cpu hits 70-75 celsius gaming at 80 percent fan speed. The fact that evga is treating you this way is terrible. I’ve honestly been telling everyone evga is becoming a terrible company as of lately, they are deteriating fast in terms of customer service sadly. Unless they make this right I’ll keep telling people to avoid evga.

I wanted to return my laptop as well, but I was way past the 14 day policy. I even considered selling on craigslist because temps were too high and the fans sounded like a jet engine.
I purchased an Opolar LC06 laptop cooler from Amazon and it helped a little with Temps. I was still seeing 81 C average.
Then I used Intel Extreme Tuning Utility and lowered my Voltage by -0.100, following this video.
now my average temps are 70-75 C.

I have the GTX 1070 17" version and personally i run an undervolted and much closer to stock clock custom profile (the 'Normal' profile is a decent overclock) on my CPU to keep it below the 80c mark max under full load with a custom fan curve. I strongly recommend re-pasting your cpu/gpu with high quality thermal compound (Kryonaut) from Thermal Grizzly and double checking that your heatsinks are making full contact with your components as they may be warped either from improper installation or from manufacturing. New high conductivity thermal pads also would not be a bad idea, personally i used the Extreme series from Fujipoly. You should only need 0.5mm pads throughout if you decide to take that route.

ONLY do the repaste if EVGA refuses to RMA your machine. The EVGA Precision X Mobile software is very easy to run new profiles and i personally recommend testing your system to see what kind of clocks and undervolt settings work best for you. There are multiple tutorials available online if you need further information.

I did the same with my SC17 along with modding the bios to adjust the bios fan curve. After liquid metal, core temps tend to peak around 80-85C(depending on ambient). Stock temps are much lower though as I am running 4ghz all core. Prime95 small fft stays below 95C. I highly recommend modding the bios if only to adjust the stock fan curve; for my laptop the fans were set a ~20% until 80C and 100% at 95C.

If you do end up replacing the TIM I suggest doing a flatness test for your cold plate. If you have any glass around and some fine grit(300+) sandpaper, a light pressure pass or two will expose any high spots. If you do liquid metal, make sure to add something around the die to contain anything that would squeeze out.

Replacing the TIM on the SC15 is much more difficult than the SC17, or most laptops for that matter, and it requires removing the motherboard and damaging an illegal "warranty void if removed" sticker. Not a tamper evident sticker; it actually says "warranty void if removed". The user has no interest in replacing the TIM, so why is this thread continually bumped by yet another user saying to replace the TIM?

It's been 7 months.  He doesn't want to change the TIM.  Let it go.

Hello,
However, if there is any physical damage caused during the process, or if any "Warranty Void if Removed" stickers are removed (such as the serial number sticker), we would be unable to RMA the laptop as the warranty would be void.

Violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act..... EVGA can't legally enforce this. FTC says otherwise.

Just for anyone coming along in the future, I just got fed up and opened up my SC17, cleaned and replaced the thermal material, went from 60c at idle to 40c and under load went from hitting 100c to topping out at 70c on a cinebench r20 run, also noted cinebench score went from 1279 to 1605, the computer has been like this from day one (although probably not as bad as the last few months) I have always been really happy with EVGA but reading this has left a bad taste in my mouth, and now with my experience of how different the laptop is after I spent 20 minutes replacing the thermal material I am even more disappointed. if you are on the fence its not a hard fix if you are semi mechanically minded, all screws are easy to see, after taking off the bottom case there is 8 screws on the heat sync itself and 6 to remove the back vents so you can lift it up.

This thread is about SC15 laptops. Replacing the thermal paste on SC17 laptops is easy to do. Replacing the thermal paste on SC15 laptops is hard and I would not recommend for most people to attempt that procedure on a SC15.

Why does this need to be stated over and over again in this thread? This thread is full of SC17 owners telling SC15 owners how easy it is. It is NOT easy on a SC15.
