Have had this SC15 latop for just over 1 month and the more I use it the more I hate its Fans.

All I am doing is updating my game files in steam and Epic and I am seeing my CPU fan at 6k rpms and the CPU at 95C. This is INSANE!!!

Laptop runs like a jet just updating game files :(

This definitley seems like a poor job of thermal paste being put on the CPU, I called EVGA customer support and they wont pay shipping both ways. Asked about doing this myself, but then they say the VOID sticker would be tampered with.

I have the laptop elevated to get the best air, and it still HOT

The VOID sticker is illegal. It would be interesting if EVGA tried to enforce it.

Plus the void sticker comes off easily without tearing, if careful.  But in your case, it might not be just the thermal paste but a warped heatsink.

    Hello,

Per our conversation we had back in early May, you are welcome to re-paste the thermal compound for the laptop. However, if there is any physical damage caused during the process, or if any "Warranty Void if Removed" stickers are removed (such as the serial number sticker), we would be unable to RMA the laptop as the warranty would be void. I did talk to you in early May about warranty services for this product. You did voice your concern of the laptop getting hot, and I did advise you that we would be able to setup a UPS pickup request for the laptop to be serviced. We would not have been able to provide a prepaid shipping label due to the high priced value of the laptop. This is not something that could be offered.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us via email or by phone at 1.888.881.3842. Our customer support office is open 24 hours a day, 7 days week.

Got my laptop back today and.............it still OVERHEATS
I start a EVGA chat and they said they tested it and no issues reported...ah... it overheats just running windows updates..seeing 99C on the CPU? I got the answer back that 99C is a perfectly acceptable tempature for the CPU while gaming

This is the worst laptop I have ever bought considering heat issues and how loud the fans are :(

Just installing updates again and 100C.... This is not cool at all...and the fans are @ 100% RPM

There's no way it should be that high of temp. The voltage and frequency are way too low, there must be no paste on the CPU die or the heat pipe isn't making contact. Even the i9 Macbook wouldn't thermal throttle installing updates.

I tried talking again with EVGA support, they keep telling me this is normal operating temp. I call that BS!!! Sent the laptop in for RMA and they only ran a few tests, wouldn't even re-paste like I asked  This is the LAST EVGA product I will be buying, been a loyal customer for over 10+ years.

I cant see how 100c is tolerant, that would mean massive chip degrading on a very quick scale.i would hope that you dont run a massive longterm load on it an basically melt it down.I surely would not want this thing to catch fire or something but it's strange the cpu is that high while GPU is half the temp.

    Which CPU & GPU ?

    BIOS ?

Is the BIOS running stock settings ? Clocks & Voltage

What OC setting for the CPU & GPU are you using - if any ?

    Your CPU @ 3392 MHz & @ 1.020 V ?

    Windows Power settings ?

Have you cleaned the vents ?  (yes I know its on the new side, but its easy to do)

My laptop is not as nice as your gaming laptop; I still use a cooling stand with active fan

This is a BRAND NEW laptop (BIOS 1.06 lastest), all vents are clear of any obstructions. Neither the CPU or GPU have been OC'd, its stock out of the box.

I would pull your windows key do a fresh os install reinstall precision mobile run basics an see then what it pulls.
If that doesn't do anything run wide open 24 hr sessions of prime95 or whatever you choose an after 24 hours stick in the freezer for 4 hours, just kidding I wouldn't do that or not admit it.

Sent a email to the supervisor at EVGA for RMA's, getting to 100C while not using 100% of the CPU shows something is not right.

The chip isn't designed to run at 100c. That's the max temperature before thermal throttling and eventual shutdown.

Not happy with the turn around on this as well, I now have a laptop that runs basic tasks at 100C and while gaming I always have thermal throttling. I asked to get a a NEW working laptop or a complete refund, but they still insist on me paying the 20% re-stocking fee since this is a normal operating CPU temperature. Never buying a EVGA product again!!!

Wow that sucks, my SC15 gets no were near those temps.  Seems I got lucky, it hangs around 80/85c when gaming.
It does get the Jet sound while heavy gaming but for a lappy this pretty and thin I kind of expected that.  But for most gaming it is fairly quite. (I do use a cooling pad) Wish they could have done better for you.  :(

    EVGA Official response:

    EVGA Support Email

Thank you for contacting the EVGA Customer Service Team. My name is Benny M. and I will answer your question today.

    Your Answer:

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to EVGA. The CPU is within the normal specs, please keep in mind that this is a laptop and it will not have the same cool capabilities that a full tower pc would have. The heatsink on the CPU is going to be smaller as it is a smaller form factory set up and the CPU can handle these temperatures. If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact us 24/7 by responding to this email or our Customer Support Line 1 (888) 881-3842.

    Regards,

    EVGA

It seems like you have 2 options at this point. Send it back for a refund and pay the restock fee, or open it up and repaste it yourself. They've made it painfully aware they aren't going to fix the problem.

Re: EVGA SC15 CPU HOT!!!! 2018/08/14 18:01:40 (permalink)
Wow. It’s obvious the cpu is getting hotter than normal. I have this laptop and my cpu hits 70-75 celsius gaming at 80 percent fan speed. The fact that evga is treating you this way is terrible. I’ve honestly been telling everyone evga is becoming a terrible company as of lately, they are deteriating fast in terms of customer service sadly. Unless they make this right I’ll keep telling people to avoid evga.
