I'm having a major problem with EVGA_PrecisionX_OC_Setup_v6.1.8.exe.

Installed it last night, and this morning it started crashing Mozilla Thunderbird and Logitech's Options (at exactly the same time)  Note that both complain about PrecisionXServerHooks.

Looks like this has to do with the OSD system trying to hook into applications it shouldn't, are you sure the OSD was turned off?
Otherwise you'd have to turn it off, or exclude the programs.

I had previously had EVGA_PrecisionX_OC_Setup_v6.1.6.exe installed with no issues, and installed 1.8 over it, assuming it would pull in my setups and there would be no changes other than 'new and improved'?

Yup Precision is trying to hook into my Adguard. Not surprised to read its trying to hook into other programs as well. I made a post about it in this thread and asked the Adguard team about it. https://forum.adguard.com/index.php?threads/adguard-not-playing-nice-and-acting-up.22796/ This Precision XOC continues to be nothing but a steaming pile of hot garbage.

Have your done this "Add Adguard to Precision's exclusions list"?

Why on Earth would Precision every try to hook into other programs such as Thunderbird and my Logitech Option mouse drivers?

I had zero issues like this with the previous version (at least none observable like this fiasco).  EVGA really needs to rethink whatever they are doing.  It shouldn't ever be that we need to exclude programs, but rather to add programs that we'd want (for whatever reason) to hook into?  The default behavior should be for it to NOT hook itself in.

I'm curious if Precision is somehow responsible for a BSOD I got on a very stable Supermicro motherboard with ECC RAM?  Something is very wrong here!!!

Then go back to the "previous version" I have. I still run XOC 6.1.4 and Precision X 5.3.11
I look at this way; Why is Adguard.exe trying to hook into XOC.

They say Precision is trying to hook into Adguard. What ever. I am over this pissing war blaming each others programs. But I will say this. Its the first time I ever had this problem with Precision and this new version. The last version I have no such issue. I will add it to the exclusion list for giggles. But most likely will end up back to previous version or Afterburner. I am leaning the fault towards Precision overall since that other user is complaining about Tbird/Logitech programs and this version of Precision. Not gospel and take it for what its worth I suppose since I could be wrong.

Since installing it auto unable OSD repeatedly when I play games. And when I turn it off my CAM Software crashes. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no luck. Only things in precision that have been changed is fan curve and LEDs.

Bit of a late answer, but the main Precision window has a button called "OSD", if this is lit it means it is enabled and tracking applications to hook into.

My take on this that some programs use a type of rendering that Precision XOC would recognise as a 3D game, and thus Precision OSD will try to hook into it, I don't think adguard is capable of hooking itself into other programs.

I'd recommend people to leave OSD off unless you need it, just to prevent any potentional conflicts.

@CriticalHit_NL

Thanks for the info!

I found a tech note on OSD (shame there's not a PDF manual on the utility).
https://www.evga.com/support/faq/afmviewfaq.aspx?faqid=59658

I definitely never enabled OSD - and have never seen anything displaying like the OSD example from the tech note on any of my 3 monitors.

So ... the issue where it hooks itself into totally inappropriate software (like Mozilla's Thunderbird - and crashes it), must be due to something else?  I think it's specific to this new release, as I never saw this behavior in earlier versions.  It was totally repeatable, as I rebooted the first time the crashes happened, and Thunderbird & Logitech's Option mouse driver both crashed at exactly the same time (generating two popups) a few minutes after rebooting. I didn't see this behavior until today, as I installed the new Precision last night and shut down - so today was the first time it was actually running.

ever since updating to 6.1.8, when I try to disable OSD it works then if I turn on another full screen app it appears again, very annoying. I have no use for OSD

I prefer OSD disabled. With 6.1.8, OSD randomly enables itself while in a game.

I think also with 6.1.8, it sometimes crashes game + NZXT CAM + Corsair CUE.

Yes, it literally won't shut off. I just came to the forums to see if others were having this problem. Every time I turn it off in the settings, it turns itself back on again.

I am convinced EVGA is just now straight out trolling us with buggy new releases EVERY TIME! This is most definitely abnormal and not a coincidence every single time at this point by now.

No issues here with the OSD acting funny on itself on V6.1.8, though I am running Windows 7.

I also keep it off by default but turning it on/off just shows normal behaviour to me, except that applications may crash when the OSD tries to unhook itself.
I only do clean installations of Precision software, if you have issues make sure you entirely clean up the old installation and try again.

installed 6.1.8 and the OSD randomly turns itself on and drops games to the desktop as if i pressed ALT+TAB - very weird and very annoying.

also the OSD turns itself on while watching video's on youtube and drops the fullscreen window out of fullscreen mode and runs behind the toolbar.

We found the root cause on the adware. We added the Bethesda launcher as part of the exclude list and unfortunately this is showing up as a false positive. We will fix in upcoming version.

Nice research.
I just wonder how on earth that could possibly be detected under generic adware detections, looks like it's just simple text in a .cfg file.

Also Avast! doesn't seem to detect it anymore here, I just downloaded Precision XOC 6.1.8 Standalone without issues, this may also mean AVG won't do it anymore, wouldn't know about Avira.

Adding applications to an exclusion list may be a never ending fight, and there's so many of them.
I wonder if it's possible to make the detection smarter so it's less likely to hook into random applications without breaking functionality for games, but I consider this to be a tough job.

We found the root cause on the adware. We added the Bethesda launcher as part of the exclude list and unfortunately this is showing up as a false positive. We will fix in upcoming version.

Jacob - I'm less concerned about the false adware indication as with Precision crashing my totally unreleated software (Mozilla's Thunderbird and Logitech's Options mouse driver).  I showed my event log in an earlier post in this thread.

I really can't have this happen - and should not have to exclude programs from Precision.

I just want to use it to throttle the GPU's to a safe level during long renders and monitor the GPU's.

Is Precision being corrected so that it won't try to hook into my software (any software at all)?

Thanks!!

Is this happening with the OSD enabled or disabled?

I have it happening with OSD disabled. So I imagine with it enabled as well for other users.

I've never turned on the OSD.  In fact, I just installed it over the previous version and hadn't even opened the Precision utility.  Problems started immediately the next day when I booted up.   I'd never turned it on in the previous version either.

I can't get it to start on startup

Also when XOC is up it crashes Gears of war 4 and Forza horizon 3 now (guessing it's conflicting with the windows game services)
Kind of annoying because then the fans spin on max for my 1080ti during gameplay which is super loud and annoying
