Installation of the 6.0.5 ask me too for a serial number. I have a GTX660 SC. I had the box near me so I entered the serial number and all was OK after that... This time my messy lot of old boxes and cie serves me !!!
I keep everything too. =)

Precision X OC now supports all NVidia gtx cards http://forums.evga.com/EVGA-Precision-XOC-605-m2540855.aspx don't like the registering just to use the software though, I already registered my card , why register for PxOC ??? bad idea... sounds like when NVidia was going to force everyone to register just to get latest drivers.... then big uproar and they backed off a bit ...

Funny how these new versions of PXOC has broken every "useful" function in almost every way for different people, an avalanche of complaints on these forums makes that obvious. Yet the "useless" registration process works just fine for all ! LOL. Congratulations EVGA, epic fail.  Do they even do their own internal testing before release ? or are they using us as beta testers to save money ? Man, what a half ass'd effort.

How can I get the serial numbers for my cards without having to drain my system, take off backplates and find the sticker? Not only that, I believe I took it off and placed inside box last year. Currently away from home for work and unable to access this sticker.
Is there another way I can acquire the serial number for my 2 980 Tis and if not, how can it be bipassed?
This sort of stuff is ridiculous.

Such a crap new addition. Get home at 5am from my shift and update the software. Go to play a game for 30 min before bed and want the fans on my evga 980ti on. I can either dig out my case, which due to space and hidden wiring layouts is a major task, open it up and try to grab it in the dark, walk out of my townhouse and go to my storage room to look for the box in another box, not play anything, or uninstall the software I've been using for years. This is my 5th Evga card and I come on here to grab the serial on the latest above card, it's not on there even though I remember adding it the same time it arrived back in December and I know I did since I did it at the same time I created the forum account. Path of least resistance, adios Evga Precision.

I was logged into the forums when I downloaded PX and it still asked me for serial numbers. I just wanted to see if the software had improved any for Maxwell Titans. Oh well, uninstall.

If you've registered your card(s) then it takes all of 2 seconds to copy and paste your serial number, and if you have not registered your card(s), why the heck not???? You have to register it if you have any warranty problems or want to step-up anyway.
The requirement is apparently because there are different functions within Precision that need to confirm the type of card and pcb in order to work properly. Not sure why they need name and email address though...

I registered the GPUs a while back. Reinstalled it twice and put in the info. Nothing happened.

It was there due to bean counters being out of touch with customers. They should of stopped and asked themselves "would this tick off customers", if the answer is YES or maybe, don't do it. I wonder when the software transmits that information back to evga servers, is it encrypted or in plain text.

Yeh i think you're right, its pretty obvious even if no-one from EVGA officially explains it. I'm pretty sure
they had a pretty good idea it could've pissed alotta people off, but tested the waters anyways to see if
they could get away with it without much protest. I'm personally tired of these type of marketing strategies
from companies in general. Its not enough that they get our money in exchange for a product anymore.
They want our personal details, filling out surveys, registering every step we make, the needy list goes on...
