vulcan1978 Also curious as to how EVGA are addressing cooling the top memory modules and how hot they get.
Indeed. I had a 3090 XC3 Ultra Hybrid and the memory on the backside would get insanely when I mined ETH (known to be memory intensive), so the point where I had to run a desk fan at full blast to keep from loosing significant hashrate. Sold it am in currently in the queue for a 3998 Hybrid although I'm 99.9% sure it will suck just as bad for cooling the backside RAM. Ideally, the 3999 will have some sort of heat spreader that connects the main block to the RAM on the backside, but I doubt it. Will probably have to fab something up.

fragility_V1 At this point options are limited. EVGA has revealed theirs, no ETA. Optimus has said they were planning to do one, no ETA (they are banking on using the FTW3 block as a starting point). I've heard Bykski is doing one, but haven't followed up on it at all, no ETA. I'm pretty sure EK is not planning on doing a block for the KPE. I'd really like to use an Optimus block, but not sure what their timeframe is. So if EVGA is first out of the gate, I'll get an HC block. Then possibly update with an Optimus block when/if they are released.
Thanks, gives me things to read up on. :-) -Nac

I'm just surprised that only AquaComputer have an active backplate to cool the memory modules. How EVGA can make a block that doesn't cool the top bank of VRAM, I don't know, I feel like it's a missed opportunity here, those who opt for the HydroCopper aren't exactly pinching pennies, EVGA could really show of some engineering with an active back-plate, but no, instead it's 100C memory modules (gee I wonder how long the memory will last with an overclock at 100C). Also, what's 3999?

Are you talking about the Kingpin Hydro Copper or Hybrid? The Hybrid is available (via the queue). The HC, like all HCs, is delayed. Per a tweet from Jacob earlier today, it sounds like most/all HCs are delayed "at least a few more weeks".

My assumption is that it will be, but given the chaos of this tech launch...I will believe it when I see it.

Well, I made the decision last night to possibly take one for the team here, if they accept the offer. I had decided that I'd like to a go a somewhat different direction when it came to cases this time, and after seeing a few videos of it later last year, I was impressed, and thought it was an excellent solution. I decided on purchasing a LianLi DK05F desk case, I'm hoping it will be the last 'case' I ever buy. Probably not. lol In one of the videos, I saw where they had a killer water cooling setup, so I looked into it and it appears it was a EK setup, almost all of the parts for the cooling system were made by EK, so after I'd purchased the desk in late Oct, I reached out to them to help determine what parts were used in that build, and got a list from them. Went to their site and started adding things to the cart, but as I wasn't sure back then what CPU and especially GPU I was going to be getting, I just left the big list in the cart for later. Fast forward to this week. I obviously now know what card I will be using so I went in and verified that everything was still in the cart, and added the cooler for the Ryzen 5900x that I _finally_ acquired last week. Then I got to the video card cooler, and I ran into a wall. They apparently don't currently make a cooler for the 3090 KP. I emailed again the support fellow from EK that had helped me previously, sending him the list from my shopping cart, asking him to confirm I wasn't missing anything for my build, and also about the availability of said cooler. I offhandedly offered up my new card for them to use to prototype the block off of if they don't have one, as I couldn't find it on their site. He responded to me this morning, in his email he said "For the 3090 kingpin GPU, I am not sure if there will be a water block for it at this moment. There are no plans for it if I check the roadmap for the next two months." I just finished up replying to him saying that I have read on some forums that sometimes the issue in producing a new block is the fact that the mfg might not have access to a relatively new card to prototype off of, and I am offering up my card as a loan, for that purpose. I figured that I am already going to be waiting to get the parts for the water cooling system, so it's not like I will need it for (at least) a few weeks anyways, and maybe we could work out some kind of a deal, as that list of parts for this desk build came to about the same cost as the KP card! I just sent him the offer, and asked him to push it up the food chain, as I was serious in my offer, and if that is the only thing (I have no idea if this is true obviously) that is holding up producing the KP version of this block, then I am happy to send it over to you to get started making one. Hopefully I'll hear something back from them before they leave the office today, they are at least 5 hours behind me here, so it might be tomorrow. I'll let you know what I hear back from them, but here's hoping! *edit* spelling. Doh!

Well, heard back from him overnight, and sounds like at this time they're not planning on producing one. Buuuuttt... He did suggest that ppl with social media accounts to ping them regarding this, it might help move the needle. Honestly, I'm a little surprised, because although I know the Kingpin isn't the exact same layout as any other 3090 out there, I figured it would be at least similar enough to have a good head start in the R&D side of things so they wouldn't be completely reinventing the wheel, but apparently not quite that easy. So, if you're interested, I guess start hitting them with messages if you're able.
"Thank you for your offer, and yes sometimes borrowing a card is the only option. But it is up to marketing and R&D to decide on which to make. And this launch is really pushing the limits on our R&D as we launched more water blocks than ever and more are coming. Kingpin GPU is always unique as it is a special GPU, so it is not easy to launch a water block for it. Post some inquiries about it on our social media 😉 that gives it more chances as others do the same."

Here's the latest 2 updates from my EK contact. Initially sounded that it was likely they just won't be able to produce the KP version, though maybe if they heard from enough of us, it just might happen. I had mentioned to him that it must be frustrating to work at the company that makes such great products, even probably working with the people designing them, but having to eventually purchase a product for his card from another mfg. Here is his reply to me: Hello Al I do understand that this launch was stressful for the R&D team as everything was pre-launched without samples. On top of that, the FE edition is not the same as RE and then there is also a problem with the new power plug. They still managed to launch more water block models in this short time than it was with the last launch. So there is nothing but respect for them from me. If there will be no kingpin water block I will get the FE 3080 GPU and EK water block as the water block is just beyond anything that was ever done and it will have a great resale value in a year or two. Just check the news section every so often and you will be up to speed. There is also a live show with Q&A on EK YouTube channel today 28th of January at 10am PST/ 7pm CET please check it out. You can even ask them when is the kingpin version coming out 😉 https://www.youtube.com/w...ktop&v=2IU2PR4qRJo Unfortunately I missed that Q&A show that night, but I'll take a look at their channel, and maybe catch the next one. This is his 2nd reply from early this morning, and he said I could share them both. It now sounds pretty unlikely we'll be seeing one from EK, sadly, so let's go EVGA! I had mentioned to him that it must be a fun place to work, where you're making great products that people really like. Here's his latest reply. Hello Al It is always fun, as we are pushing the limits of what can be done over and over again. I did ask the question in your name (and mine 😉 ), and unfortunately, there are no plans for the Kingpin water block at this moment. You can still look at the video as it is published. They talk about it at 33:10 https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=2IU2PR4qRJo Yes, sure you can share it.

I emailed OptimusPC last week and they did confirm that one would be coming out for the KP. The said they said the prototype will likely be done mid Feb, and availably to order then with shipping a few weeks after. So order in a couple of weeks and take delivery mid March is my guess.

Wonder how it would compare to the block that EVGA is having made for them. And wonder which company is producing it for them?

Well not having owned anything from Optimus yet, but going off their reviews and their marketing claims, they at the very least make super solid stuff. You shouldn't have any problems or concerns about how well their stuff holds up. As far as how good it is... well lots of people are claiming quite good results. Looking at people who have done really elaborate and professional testing it looks like it's the best GPU cooler by <1°. Lots of people are getting 3-7° improvements over their EK CPU blocks, but according to the guys who are rigorous testers those getting in excess of 1° improvements likely aren't doing something correctly or methodically. I wouldn't worry about the build quality, oh and there is ZERO RGB.

Yeah I have the Signature V2 CPU block - it's made from a 3lb block of brass. The finished FTW3 GPU block I believe is around 5lbs ..definitely hefty.

Is it brass, or copper? I'm not sure if it'd be good to have something in the cooling system made partially out of zinc? Either way, that's one big boy block!

The Optimus V2 CPU block itself is a big block of brass plated with "extreme corrosion resistant Pro-XE nickel". The cold plate on my one is raw copper, although there is a nickel option. The Optimus GPU block at present is nickel but they do have an all copper option, although they are only pushing out the nickel ones at the moment as there is huge demand and it's faster to manufacture.

As someone who does sales and has to quote everything for a metal part fabricator... including machining copper, brass titanium etc. I imagine they are making a single block from copper and then sending that block off to get plated. So it's actually faster to just get the copper out, but a ton of people want to go with liquid metal hence the nickel. When I ordered a CPU block last week I was able to pick between copper and nickel depending on the day I tried. Oh and for anyone who wants one, Friday at 9am they will release the next batch so be on the lookout if you're wanting one.... only for the 3090 FTW3 though!

Wow, I never thought I’d STILL be looking at this thread daily for a hint of when I can buy my HC KPE to fire up my new computer (purchased case/MB/cpu in oct). Getting more outdated as the weeks tick by and newer stuff keeps coming out... can we get an update on what the deal is? I know evga wants to release this ASAP to maximize your profits. You’re not purposely not releasing it. Can you just tell us what the holdup is so we understand how long it might be still? I designed my whole system around a chilled loop, and I want a preinstalled water block!
Don’t be such teases. Show us a little leg or something!

Thanks for the link, just did a quick look see of their offerings. On the CPU side, it looks like the Signature series is their top notch one, but unfortunately, best as I can tell, it's only made for the Intel CPU. The Foundation one lists the AMD version as well, but unfortunately, every style is out of stock, with a note saying that they would be shipping Jan 11-15th(?) so maybe they were in and back out of stock again already, but didn't update the info on their site yet. I'll probably be going with the EK version for that one anyways, but it's always good to have options. As for GPU blocks, I didn't see even an inkling of what is coming for the KP, it looks like they're holding their cards close to their vest on that one until it's ready. Although I'm pretty sure I'll hear here when it does get released. It'll be interesting to see who gets theirs out the door first, EVGA or Optimus.
