Posting this in here since apparently I’ve been locked out of the PR OC thread for now and there’s no lifeguard on duty in there. Anyone know if it’s safe to mess with the dip switches on the LN2 BIOS just using the PX1 slider and no classy tool? I assume OCP and power limit protections remain in place when you flip the switches.

Well, my doa 3090 replacement from another company arrived doa after 6 weeks of waiting for them to process my rma. I think they just sent me the same card without testing it. At this point, I'm thinking just buying a kingpin from a scalper. I wonder how much of the difference will be between waiting for my que and just buying it from the scalper?

A lot, but at this point; I've built a top of the line new
system and have been waiting for my 3090 for over 2 months. If I have to wait 3 to 6 months for my que, I'm thinking $500 extra is worth it at this point.

Hello Guys, do you know if there's a new firmware for the evbot to make it compatible with my new 3090 KPE? thx

I understand you're thoughts for sure here, I'm sure I would have made the jump already instead of the long wait

Yeah, I did it. On the bright side, everyone behind me moves up in que. These products are going to have a 2 year span for me before I get the next best. Waiting 25% of that time to save a little money just didn't make sense. Even though I don't like doing it, supply and demand.

But will EVGA honor any warranty from purchasing that Kingpin from a private seller on Ebay?

Don't see why not, the transferrable warranty should follow the card.  Bought one of my last 2080Tis KPEs on ebay and had to RMA it.  No issues.

My last two RTX 2080 Ti Kingpins I bought were not on Ebay, But then again I didn't have to pay an inflated price for them either.

Evga warranties their product for 3 years on resold items. They warranty the product not the buyer. One of the reasons I like them.

Got my kingpin, no problems. Funny how $otac can't send me a card that works in 2 and a half months with multiple cards. Maybe I was just extremely unlucky, but I'm sticking with EVGA from now on. Their rmas are fast. $otac needs to check their freaking cards before sending them out on an rma

Any word yet on whether Hydro Copper will be a real thing at some point?

FOMO led me to queue for a hybrid when I really want to just hook up a thinner card to my existing loop.

I wish there was a page just for this because this question always get buried. On the bright side it may take long enough for 3080 TI numbers to come out.

I feel you entirely. It's really the VRAM that I'm after for AI and ML stuff, and I've always wanted a KPE, so I was willing to fork over the money, but if a 20GB 3080 TI comes out at a reasonable price, I don't think I'll be able to justify a KPE anymore.

Back to my original question. Jay used a 10900K chip and Steve used a 10900KF. Kingpin also used a 10900KF to get his record. Do Vince and Steve know something the rest of us don’t? I need to upgrade my CPU and I'm trying to decide between the 5950x and the 10900k or 10900KF. I currently have a 9900KF that runs a stable 5.1 and 5.2 not so stable. In the stream Jay said he and Steve were given 10900K's that Intel told them both that they could run 5.70. Is this possibly a new version of the 10900K is coming out such as a 10900KS maybe? Also does anyone know if the new intel rocket lake chip 11900k will be compatible with the Z490 motherboards or heard any rumors on this? If I go the intel route I will definitely buy the ZZ490 Dark Kingpin edition. Advice is greatly appreciated as this new Kingpin card deserves only the best! Plus I would like an advantage when getting back in the overclocking rankings.

CPU doesn't matter for Port Royal. You may see a few (literally a few) more points with a 10900k due to better memory overclocking. There was a guy on the 3090 thread on overclock.net who complained his Port Royal scores dropped after "upgrading" to a 5950x from Intel. However, the 5950x has a massive advantage in any bench where the CPU matters like Firestrike and Time Spy.

It's unlikely that any new 10th gen CPUs will be released. The 10900KS version is statistically better than the 10900K based on Silicon Lottery: . It is 3% more likely to hit 5.1 ghz and 1% more likely to hit 5.2ghz. However, you could buy a 10900KS that ends up at 5.1ghz just like your 9900K.

11th gen Intel should be compatible with Z490, but its not confirmed whether PCIE 4.0 will work.

but will Rocket Lake require a Z490 motherboard with PCIe 4.0 to work?

Nobody knows anything for certain about Z490 PCIe compatibility with Rocket Lake.

You have nothing to benefit from upgrading from a 9900KF to a 10900K(S). The 10900K will not give you a higher PR score. Both the 10900K and 9900K are obliterated by high core count CPUs in Firestrike and Timespy. Rocket Lake will have up to 8 cores, so it will also be obliterated. The only benefit to Rocket Lake is that it might end up being better than the 5950x for gaming.

It almost sounds like I'm better off getting the 5950x but will the AMD motherboards have the same memory overclocking abilities as the Z490 boards do? I hear memory overclocking makes a big difference in Port Royale scores and the Timespy/CPU benchmarks also.

The 5950X is not even on the top 100 for Time Spy Extreme CPU score. Take a look at the hall of fame and see what people are using.

This did not age well

Looks like you should be able to post links now since you have at least 10 posts.

I have to say, my KPE experience has been rotten. Two bad cards in a row. One with intermittent freezing issues and one that freezes under any heavy load at all (read as, does not work for gaming AT ALL). EVGA needs to focus less on giving away products and more on quality control of their products, imo.

Stock. No setting changes at all. No toggle changes. No voltage changes. It crashes before it can make it into the benchmarks.

What is the overclock on the rest of your system? Is it stable at those settings? I notice for myself if my cpu is not stable it crashes in port before it even loads up with my kingpin at stock settings. Try a lower overclock settings to see if it works or not, couldn’t hurt.

Do you have another system you can test it in? if that fails then it must be the card. On a site note is the bios on the card the right ones? someone on the forms here said they had the same bios on all three bio switches. Another thing i thought of, did you do a fresh reinstall of the drivers? making sure the old card drivers was completely gone from the system?

I did all of that. I have a 5950x and 10900k setup. It freezes the entire system on both setups.

I always uninstall Previson and run DDU then reinstall everything after every change I make.

I have to say, my KPE experience has been rotten. Two bad cards in a row. One with intermittent freezing issues and one that freezes under any heavy load at all (read as, does not work for gaming AT ALL). EVGA needs to focus less on giving away products and more on quality control of their products, imo.

What speeds is it freezing at?

Same, I backed off my cpu OC and was more stable on my gpu oc

For me it was having a higher cache then i normally would.

Cool, that fixed it. I can go back to my 5.2 all core. Thanks

I’ve had $2500 sitting in an account waiting for what? 2 months now? Since they’re not telling us when the HC will be opened up for orders; can someone please tell me how their hybrid (or other notification queue participants) purchase went? Are funds pre-authorized but not captured until it ships or is the card just not hit until it’s shipped? It’s been a major pain just leaving this money sitting here.
