The GPU pulls whatever power it needs from the sources available. The sources are: PCIE pin 1 through 3, and the PCIE slot (with a 120W fuse). With the unlocked VBIOS, if your card pulls more than 120W (even an instantaneous spike), POP. Dead card.

Understood. Thanks.

Even with the 1000w BIOS, while gaming I hit 80-81watts a PCIe, so I'm not too concerned for my daily use with the 1000w bios.

Gotta pay to play. At least that's what I was told when I was dumping money into my M3...

edit: Can someone explain the benefit of this cable for me? Thanks in advance: https://www.evga.com/articles/00600/#:~:text=Boost%20Your%20Power,%2DE%20bus%2C%20improving%20stability.

Thing is, 80-81 is still out of spec.  It shouldn't be doing more than 75, period.

I'm going to try the XC3 BIOS at some point, I just haven't gotten around to it because I've been enjoying this new monitor :-D Maybe tomorrow, we shall see.

Not trying to be difficult, but where are specs posted for this card as far as that goes?  Is this just a utopian spec, or is it real as far as what max should be?

HWiNFO64 says I pulled 600watts as well.

I lowered to 500 on the memory and pulled 18675 on Timespy (25 less).

Not sure what else I can change to help the score. I'm using a EVGA 1600 Supernova G2 and 3 separate cables to the GPU. Any tips? Thanks.

Don't keep PX1 or AB open during benchmarks - set offsets / static fan speed, apply, and close.

In the nvidia control panel, set High Performance Shaders.

Clean boot without any programs running (other than the Futuremark service / Steam for 3DMark to work).

Thanks. I'm looking for the setting.. is it supposed to be under manage 3D settings? I don't see it. Thanks!!

After changing that, moving fans to 100, core clock to +150 and mem +300, I hit 18,784... Bah. -_-

Remember we care about graphics score, not total score.
But anyway, your card has a backup bios.
On your backup bios, try flashing the XC3 bios on the card (yes, XC3), do NOT update PX1 firmware.  Be sure to save the backup bios to disk first with GPU-Z, so then you can flash back with NVflash if you don't like the results.

Then use MSI Afterburner, set TDP to maximum % slider and then run the benchmark.

There have been multiple people who said they benched higher with the XC3 bios than the 1000W Bios.
I don't know all about the 1000W Bios, but it's very possible that internal timings are relaxed in order to clock higher.
There was discussion in the kingpin thread about needing to adjust MSVDD to improve default scores, but that's beyond me.
Look in hwinfo64, you should see your effective clocks.  You can add the GPU clocks and effective clocks both to RTSS OSD in Hwinfo64 (RTSS must be running), although having RTSS running while benching will cost you like 100 points.  The effective clocks should be no more than -15 to -30 mhz lower than the "requested" clocks.

Ah, thanks! Graphics score is just a hair under 21k in this recent run. (obviously in the screenshot it hit 21079)

If I get around to it I will take up your request. :)

Which is why your card pulls 98W with the unlocked VBIOS (you do realize that your GPU has a 120W

With the unlocked VBIOS, if your card pulls more than 120W (even an instantaneous spike), POP. Dead card. And with the unlocked VBIOS on it, EVGA is going to not honor the warranty.

I think you mean „Dead Fuse“ (reparable)

And how can i be sure that PCIe slot power with XC3 is correct and not a fake value (e.g. 66W in GPU-Z and 98W real)? A Fake-Value like Board Power Draw with XC3...

Has anyone measure the real PCIe Slot Power (e.g. with NVIDIA „PCAT“)? Only that is the right way! (not GPU-Z or HWinfo)

Not trying to be difficult, but where are specs posted for this card as far as that goes?  Is this just a utopian spec, or is it real as far as what max should be?

It's the spec for PCIe x16 slots power draw.  This exceeding of that draw used to result in melted 24-pin connectors on motherboards which is why back then they started putting extra power plugs on motherboards that supported 2-3-4-way SLi, to supplement power to the motherboard's PCIe slots so that they wouldn't have that issue.  Each x16 slot shouldn't exceed 75W of draw, if it does, that's out of spec & dangerous to run for extended periods of time.
It could run like that just fine for weeks/months, but when it goes, it will likely take your GPU & Motherboard both with it, and eVGA will very likely NOT actually let you complete RMA without paying for a new card once they see the GPU's PCIe slot is crispyed because of excessive draw through it.

That's why the majority will say if it's drawing more than ~75W from the slot, that's out of spec, and should be RMAed.  It's a universal thing for any PCIe card period as far as I'm aware, not just GPUs.

Edit: I looked it up to ensure I wasn't shooting from the hip on this one, and that is indeed "spec", this is directly from Intel's website:

The PCI Expressx16 connector on Intel® Desktop Boards can deliver only up to 75 watts.

So if the card is drawing more than 75W from the slot, that is out of spec & considered not good.

So do we know for sure if the clocks being reported from the card when the XC3 BIOS is on are accurate or off?  Because currently I'm scoring lower than before with the same clocks applied, despite obviously seeing higher power now.
I get that none of the power draw numbers can be trusted except the PCIe slot, but I'm wondering about how it's reporting clocks since the clocks on the XC3 vs the FTW3 are different.  I.E. stock boost is higher etc.

Tested two different BIOSes, I could not get scores even similar to my previous on one even with the same set clocks, and the other had a 83W PCIe slot draw when I was actually "near" 500W of draw, so neither one is gonna work for me... Guess this card is headed to the RMA block after I receive my Kingpin indeed.

You have also to be aware that reading out in gpuz is only software related. Eg here with my FTW3 3090 ultra on only powerlimit 107%. It hits board power draw on 456.3 Watts and pcie on 79.6Watts and in hinfo64 it shows bpd draw max 445.6 Watts and pcie on 76 Watts. So there are differences...And you have no actual reports of melted pcie slots on mainboards...look at the 3090 FE it has spikes on 87-90 Watts@400Watt on the pcie.
I never mind and care about this.

Tell that to the guy that had a 2080 Ti Black who came in here and told us about his 86W PCIE slot power draw that toasted his card and motherboard after several months of use.

That's why I keep warning people about the unlocked 1000W VBIOS with these power limited FTW3 3090s.

You are absolutely right. But i am no technician. I hope for a new better powerbalanced bios in the near future and no red light and so on.
But when you look at the review at gamers nexus with the FTW3 3090 he says its a little bit over spec but it doesnt matter.

installing xc3 bios fixed my 3090 ftw3 hybrid... now boost frequencies are stable no more downclocking, tested some oc and card can boost at 2145/2160 all time and improved my port royal score from 14500 (OC bios) to 14802... about power draw (reported by thor psu) while playing godfall it jumped from 590w to 685w that should be like 495w for gpu... so is working now but i have one question about power balance... pcie slot power now stays under 66.5w and is ok but what about pcie connectors values? they are completely wrong or they just miss 3rd value? i am asking because i see like 65w on first connector and 160w on second and so 3rd one should be like 220w+ that is way too much.

I can't imagine EVGA honoring a warranty with the XC3 bios on a card that wasn't meant to run it pulling that much wattage. I guess we will have to wait until someone sends it in and we will see. If I were you I would just run the XOC bios and enjoy the beast card.

installing xc3 bios fixed my 3090 ftw3 hybrid... now boost frequencies are stable no more downclocking, tested some oc and card can boost at 2145/2160 all time and improved my port royal score from 14500 (OC bios) to 14802... about power draw (reported by thor psu) while playing godfall it jumped from 590w to 685w that should be like 495w for gpu... so is working now but i have one question about power balance... pcie slot power now stays under 66.5w and is ok but what about pcie connectors values? they are completely wrong or they just miss 3rd value? i am asking because i see like 65w on first connector and 160w on second and so 3rd one should be like 220w+ that is way too much.

I can't imagine EVGA honoring a warranty with the XC3 bios on a card that wasn't meant to run it pulling that much wattage. I guess we will have to wait until someone sends it in and we will see. If I were you I would just run the XOC bios and enjoy the beast card.

the wattage of my card now is perfectly fine...max i see is 495w, xoc bios has 500w power limit, so... and also xc3 bios should not void warranty as is not unlocked it still has protection

firmware is only for fan speed curves. Nothing to do with the bios.

So after installing the hybrid Water cooled block on my card my temps would still hover around 58-60 in game so I ended up buying a PCI-e 4.0 Riser card. This allowed me to have a push pull system on my 240 radiator. Im using my Corsair 120LL in the front pushing air into the rad and the stock EVGA 120mm fans that came with the Hybrid kit pulling the air out. I have seen a 10c - 15c drop in temps further with this setup. Also I wanted to make sure I had 0 performance drops so I ran some benchmarks with my card as well. I can say this riser from Linkup worked perfectly without 1 single crash so far and my benchmarks have all gone up with the improved cooling. I have the 500w bios working perfectly on my card as well. My case is a Corsair 680x. I did take off the front glass to maximize airflow as well. Cod Warzone runs around 51c under full load but when I cap my fps at 1440p to 144 fps I see 42-44c  with my room temps around 24c. I will link my benchmark scores and the link to the Riser below. Always like to post positive things on this forums to give people some hope!

I havn't done any tests from the wall but my PR went from 14400 PB which took a very cold night and a lot of fine tuning to an easy 14600 first shot on the xc3 bios.
