I have a 7 yr old GTX970 FTW ACX 2.0 in my rig. I have never really overclocked the card since I have owned it. The computer pretty much stays running 24/7 as did the previous one I had it in.  Running the stock fan curve while gaming, the cards temp will reach into the 70's. I set a more aggressive fan curve in MSI Afterburner and with that i can keep the temp in the low 60's but the fans are quite a bit louder.
I have read a lot of other posts on other forums where people say the cards temps run in the 60's normally.
So given the age of the card, I bought in Dec 2014.  I am wondering if perhaps its time to crack it open and replace the thermal paste.
System specs are:
Fractal Meshify 2 XL case
Asus Tuff Z490 motherboard
Intel i7-10700
Corsair AX1200 Pro Gold
Corsair Vengeance DD2933
Corsair H150I RGB Pro XT

Honestly, I've been thinking about replacing the thermal paste on my 970. It seems to run fine, but I bought it used so I have no idea how it was used for most of its life. Might just make a fun weekend project.

I went ahead and opened it up cleaned it and replaced the paste. The old paste was not rock hard but it was getting there. There cards temps are about the same as what they were before.
I also went ahead and overclocked it. The performance is moderately better. But its only a hold out until I can get my hands on a newer card
