Been lurking the forum for some time now. Just wanted to say I was able to step up from a 770 sc acx to the 780 sc acx. Actually sent out my 770 yesterday with 2 day shipping.  I plan on getting a 1440 monitor this summer. Was the difference in my investment worth it? Also, does anyone know what the turn around time is for when the EVGA sends out the step up card?

Usually, once we receive your card, we send out your new card within 1-3 business days.

Thanks,
Rob

Where do you see your position in the queue?

We do not show position in queue, but you will receive an email when your Step-Up is ready to continue.

Thanks,
Rob

Hi Robb

Will the step-up program sign-ups open again soon?

They are currently closed.

The Step-Up program is currently running.  The only thing that is closed is the email to notify you when we started the Step-Up so you would be aware and request.  You can go to your product page and click "View Details" on the product you wish to Step-Up.  If you are within 90 days and your product qualifies, you will see a "Start new Step-Up" button.  Click that and follow along to put your self in queue.  More information on our Step-Up program can be found here : http://www.evga.com/support/stepup/

Thank You,
Rob

well just started my step up going from a 3GB classified to 6GB SC. I love the classified but doesn't seem like a good overclocker to be honest.

I get a boost clock 1267 stable max 1293

i can't get that... low 12's. i love having a classified but i guess i wanted or thought would get better results.
guessing going form 3GB to 6GB not a bad thing for like $80...

How is the Airflow in your case?  Are you hitting temp issues for your OC or voltage issues?

My case is Define XL Titanium Grey
Side fan is Cosair sp140
idles at 25 low 22 (most of the time)
now heres the funny part.
OC 142 gpu 395 mem same OC as above!
I just did a bench mark M:LL   i hit 60. 3 runs DX11: Metro Last Light from guru
According to precision I hit 1306 and 1.200? gpuz Vram 67c
edit gpu temp 74c

OKAY then, I am thoroughly confused after reading so much... At the risk of being not quite a total moron ( even though I feel like one at times ) I have a 780Ti Classified with the Classified backplate.
I even have 37 days more of my right to step-up left. Since there is NO step-up to a Titan Black all that leaves is this one. From what I have read it seems that there is no really compelling reason to upgrade from a 3gb 780Ti to the new 6gb 780 Right? If there is I want to do it, I am all for it.
Could I get a concise reasoning for and against? Unless there really is a 780Ti coming out. I have read here and various other places... Here is another link saying a 780ti version is coming... http://wccftech.com/evga-launch-gtx-780-6gb-gtx-780-ti-6gb-variants/  I have gone through a LOT of this thread and it at times I think I have it then I read another post and I am back at square one... Thanks all!

Pretty positive Jacob said there will be a 780Ti 6gb version being released but it may not be around in time for your step-up.
If you do the step up to the 780 6gb it is really a step down so don't do it, you may as well hold on to your 780Ti Classy.
780 6gb is basically the same as a 3gb 780 just with 3 more gigs of ram so your Ti Classy will be more powerful.
Don't do it unless you can step-up to the 780Ti 6gb.

If you have a GTX 780 Classified or better then it's not worth "stepping up."  Unless you are running more than one monitor.

Couldn't you just get another 780, and step that one up too, so your locked in? Like the first one?

Can anyone tell me how much time I have to step up my 760 to the 780 6gb? I did apply for notification way back in March, and did receive an email last week notifying me of its availability. I just don't have the cash right now to step up.

I understand that as long as I was within the 90 day window when I applied for notification that I would be eligible for the step up, I just don't know how long I have to step up once the card was made available.

@bphillips9900, the sign up is closed but that is only for the notification.  You can still proceed with a Step-Up as long as you're in your 90 day period.

Don't bother stepping up. If you look at reviews of the Titan Black (virtually a 6gb 780ti) vs a 3gb 780ti there is no difference. Even at high resolutions. Even most recent reviews of the new Radeon 295x2 (4gb x 2) vs a Titan or 780ti at high surround resolutions the Nvidia cards are not as good. Keep in mind the Radeon only has 1gb more of ram than your 780ti. Its only at 2560x1440 and under is when Nvidia pulls ahead. So with 3gb or 6gb there will not be much difference as you'll most likely run out of gpu horsepower before you hit the ram cap. This of course excludes modded games like Skyrim, but this goes back you'll almost always run out of gpu hp before running out of gpu memory.

One word X-Plane
i do a lot simming and i can max out the ram on the 3GB card with out trying
also games coming out in next year or 2 will easily use more then 3GB of ram (im looking at you Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk)

Re: EVGA GTX 780 6GB Step-Up 2014/04/28 09:10:02 (permalink)
Hi,

I currently own an EVGA GTX 780 SC 3GB (03G-P4-2784-KR) for which I have activated the step up and have opted to move up to the GTX 780 SC 6GB (06G-P4-3787-KR).

I currently have purchased and installed the EVGA GTX 780 backplate (100-BP-2780-B9) to my current card and as I planned on moving up to SLI, I also have a 2nd spare 100-BP-2780-B9 backplate unopened ready for my 2nd GTX 780 SC 3GB.

Now I have activated the step up up I will of course be buying a 2nd GTX 780 SC 6GB in a few months time instead of a 3gb for my SLI setup.

This leaves me with 2 100-BP-2780-B9 backplates and eventually, 2 GTX 780 SC 6GB cards. What I am looking to find out is whether the 100-BP-2780-B9 backplates that fitted the EVGA GTX 780 SC 3GB (03G-P4-2784-KR) will fit the new 6GB SC 780 cards (06G-P4-3787-KR)?

If not, do EVGA plan to release a backplate for the new 6GB 780's? I would really prefer my cards to have them fitted! If my current ones will fit the new 6GB cards, even better.

Many thanks!

sorry.. never played X-Plane.
As for Watcher and Cyberpunk, if they aren't multiplayer games I will never play them on pc. In the next two years ill have upgraded at least once. Again... you'll run out of horsepower before ram -----> if you upgrade once a generation it will not matter.
The 6gb 780 or 6gb 780ti will only benefit those at 4k resolutions, but rght now Nvidia's high end cards do not do as well as the high end Radeon cards with just 1gb more of ram. Many reviews show the ram isnt the issue either. To me... any current gen Nvidia's card being re-released with more ram is Fool's Gold to those who already plopped hard earned $ on 700 series card; this comes from someone who has/had sli Titans.
The 780ti is a monster card and it oc like crazy. Sajin (very cool EVGA forum's member) and many others have also confirmed counterpart cards with the less memory tend to oc better. My friend's 780ti oc to 1255 on air, whereas my Titan only clocked up to 1150. Both are on stock bios, too.

hey guys   Just wondering:

IS the SC ACX just a factory OC'ed card?
In other words will I be able to achive same clocks if just get the ACX and use precision X?

Just wondering if the extra $20 are worth it or not.  IS the only real benefit having a stable OC w/o the need of extra software?

Yes, the SC is a factory-overclocked card. There is no guarantee that you will be able to achieve the same clocks with a standard card (there never is when you OC anything), but yes, you can OC it until you reach whatever its ceiling is.

Witcher 3 doesnt come out till next year and if Witcher 2 is any thing to go by IT WILL use that much ram
Titan Fall already can use 4GB
X-Plane and other flight sims can use 6GB of vram with out blinking
mine is running 1200 on just its own boost with out any help from me and settles in around 1150 Mhz  i did nudge the base up to 1Ghz for the heck of it

but for my needs i want more ram even if it costs some speed

hey guys   Just wondering:

IS the SC ACX just a factory OC'ed card?
In other words will I be able to achive same clocks if just get the ACX and use precision X?

Just wondering if the extra $20 are worth it or not.  IS the only real benefit having a stable OC w/o the need of extra software?

I find that the SC ver tend to be better binned to start with they also used to have the lifetime warranties

Re: EVGA GTX 780 6GB Step-Up [Updated 3/25/14] 2014/04/28 22:42:00 (permalink)
I just received an email from the evga step-up que saying that the promotion has now started.  I have a EVGA GeForce GTX 780 SC 3GB w/ EVGA ACX Cooler. SC version.
I followed instructions to get to my product and when I click on "details" it still says that my product is not available to step-up.
I also looked on the step-up list and it has been updated but I guess it still appears there is no existing upgrade with my "version" of my card to the 6GB.

Can someone from EVGA help me out here?
Since the GTX 780 SC is not on the list, as I suspected, can I just step up to the regular GTX 780 6GB and pay the difference?  Like this one:
  • EVGA GeForce GTX 780 6GB w/ EVGA ACX Cooler - (06G-P4-3785-KR)
Thanks.

Once you agree to start the Step-Up with the base 6GB 780, the next page in the process will offer you the chance to upgrade to the 6GB SC version. Don't worry that it's not listed!
