With the crappy new wu's I will average 60k PPD, maybe a tad less.

From project 1046x?  They fixed the points points today so that PPD should be in line with other core 17 projects.

I hope so. :) currently running a 10464 for 53k PPD, so I haven't seen it yet. Even if it evens out, I'll need to run 24/7 all month to make tier 2. On a budget, its tough. 500k and 1 million would have been a nice bump from previous years, but not too much. If I had 500 bucks to drop on a gt780, plus a new psu, it would be fine. I would love to get a million points in 6 days. :)

A single 770 classy will do little over little under 100k ppd a day.

Take 30% off that for these new beta wu's.

Ya I know but that is not all the new  beta WUs  .But for me makes no difference I updated my video drivers and turned folding OFF.For now the 2 4ps will make it tell 16 cores no longer get bigadv. Then I will turn them off too.I will not fold on the 580s , 560s , 470s or 260s not worth it.I think I will not have to upgrade a video card for a long time even the 260s play most games at near max settings.

I'm barely able to reach 500,000 points per month with my gtx470 and i5-2500k. Are the new video cards really able to get 1.5 million points per month?

I'm running a GTX 670 (sc) and a GTX 660 Ti FTW LE and cranking out 500K in about 8-10 days depending on the WUs.  The 670 runs constantly and the 660 Ti runs at night while sleeping.  Keep in line with the same config for the new tier and I'll have to fold about double and a half to triple as long, keeping the same folding pattern, to get 1.5 mil.  Now my 660 Ti will outperform the GTX 760 for folding so I would need a GTX 770 to improve the pace.

I'm not sure what PPD the new Maxwells will perform for the x60 and x70 series so will have to wait and see but my best guess is that the existing 700 series may not be worth it to upgrade to, IMO, unless their prices gouge with the 800 series hitting the market.  Not worth it to hit 1.5 mil anyway.  The 800 series should be more efficient so it may be costly but should perform better and use less power which may help in the long run.

That it is for me... basically, it will take three times longer to get the second $5 = a lot more energy/electricity... not worth it anymore.... I expected maybe a doubling to 1,000,000... but 1.5 mill; in my opinion 1.5 mil should be $10.... So $5 for the first goal and $10 for 2nd goal... Bye folding... I will just save the money it would cost me to fold and buy whatever I want.

with a 780 that's about 10 days of folding - for both tiers
30 days on 1 card cost me about $20 ..so it would cost me just under $10 bucks of electricity for 10 evga bucks

it's not suppose to be "fold for profit" ...id like it to be spend $5 and get $10 back for stuff... that's a dream
heck everyone would jump on that ...imagine the electric company doing that and reselling the parts...I can see the business model now

Apparently year 7 folding things I've already made 12,000,000 points in less than a day. As per the request on the year-7 page, I'm going to forego requesting "credit" for those points lest I be denied when I actually reach the .75m and 1.5m markers

I'm just concerned about the geforce drivers.

Even now I've rolled back to 327.23 and if I pick up a core 15 I did to 20kppd yet if I pick up a core 17 I shoot up to 104kppd
With such a wild to and fro I hope I can make the grades.

Also the new tiers has meant I cannot play bf4 (even though I don't anyway) and who knows what performance I loose in games I do play. as upgrading to the most current drivers kills my ppd to an average 30k ish.
This month will be interesting ;)

Thats the exact reason I can't fold on my 770 anymore either, the later drivers only give me 30K PPD where as 326.81 beta gave me 105K PPD, I can't stay on those older drivers forever and its not worth it anymore with 750K and 1.5 million required now for evga bucks. I wouldn't make it unless I got a 780 (since titan cards are not effected by the PPD drop, only keplar is)

I appreciate the need to raise the thresh holds but that was too much too fast. You have just pulled a PG and alienated the majority of the team folders. "Good Job" (heavy sarcasm)

Titan is still a Kepler based card, the driver issues are with GK104 chips, GK110 chips are unaffected, they're all still Kepler.

On topic, I was more expecting it to double. We're on the cusp of Maxwell supposedly, so a lot of us are just waiting to see what's coming in the pipeline here since 700 series is supposedly to be supplanted by the 800 series. Makes it real awkward.

Doubling would have left a lot more people involved at least until we see what the 800 series can and will do.

Re: EVGA Folding Year 7 2014/03/01 18:39:44 (permalink)
I had proposed a lower tier level - that most could have lived with (mind you even at those levels people barked)

I agree it's a bit high -but I also ran the numbers that could justify it being higher
if maxwell comes out the PPD numbers could even be more impressive - just imagine making both tiers in a few days on 1 card

it's not EVGA's fault for the big bump - I put it all on Stanford and QRB and not fixing their points system
it's tough coming up with a a fair bump when Stanford can't get their stuff(imagine another word here) together

If stanford would have fixed the points issue and the how the bonuses "for both BA and QRB" work and flatten the point system out - so QRB POINTS growth isn't so fast
We wouldn't be in an issue of the BA problems(and the big Points races- and system builds for the big points) requiring them to keep upping the requirements
and there wouldn't be a big jump onto BETA to catch big points and the how the resulting point race has stanford now looking at ways to limit beta wu's to beta members

it was the huge discrepancy in point values between WU's SMP,BA, GPU that are causing the issues (where SMP wu are not being done as much for lack of value)
and now it comes to roost at a EVGA - stanfords issues are causing issues here
what would be fair considering QRB and ever increasing points and newer WU and maybe GPU BIGADV?
considering we never know what work unit we get - core 15 or core 17 - it's huge difference - even for me - core 15 is a bummer and it makes it tougher to make tiers

it be nice if they were all core 17 and drivers get fixed - but we know the reality - life isn't fair sometimes

Now if you all had words I suggest telling stanford to fix the point system - not direct it at EVGA - they are being fair as always
Id imagine EVGA revisiting it if stanford fixes things

ouch.  I thought I was doing well pulling a 1 million point month.
I'll still put it a bit each month, the bucks were a bonus anyway.
at 30c kw/hr 1.5million is a bit too expensive for me.

Sorry but I have to roflol people are forgetting how long it took for FaH to get Kepler working
its has only just happened and now Maxwell is here and how long will it take to get that to working with FaH?
They crapped on Fermi to make Kepler owners happy what make you think it will not happen again with Maxwell.
Just saying better think this threw a little more before making that big of a jump as you may loose a lot of EVGA
folders and people that buy EVGA cards. Already lost a good many when they killed BIGADV.
Just saying what I think needs to be said here. Good luck everyone.

Hello All,

We have decided to renew the folding promotion for another year!  After researching and taking into account opinions in threads on the forums here, we have made the following changes.  Due to advancing technology, the points needed will rise this year.

Tier 1 : 750k (750,000) (5 EVGA Bucks)
Tier 2 : 1.5m (1,500,000) (5 EVGA Bucks)

Thank you to all who help with this wonderful cause.  EVGA really appreciates your support in helping to find solutions to some of the worlds biggest problems.

Thank You,
Rob

where those opinions from the Diehard folders?????? Or the everyday man who could never afford Big advanced and tries to get the best GPU that they can afford

Agree. Basically it's now unachieveable unless you run 24/7 on a 770 or greater.
not many folks can afford that, or those cards for that matter.
i think doubling the targets to 500/$5 and 1million/10 would have been a bit more of a popular move.
Still, Evga doesn't have to pitch in anything, so it's all a bonus.  I just hope we don't lose too many folders because of it.

Sad to say, this will do it for me. I've got too much stuff to try to upgrade on my rig to make this feasible right now. Thanks to EVGA for running this promo! Maybe someday soon I'll figure out what to do with the bucks I have saved up currently, lol.

Think my 590 will still be able to get the full boat but I think its going to take the full month. The bump up seams a bit steep considering last year was 250k 500k I would have thought 750k/1mil would have been more reasonable. Going to loose a lot of folders because they cant reach that target I am sure. If i can not hit it all I also will probably drop out of it as well. The money saved from folding 24/7 will make my wife happy who is always ****ing about the power bill. LOL

Re: EVGA Folding Year 7 2014/03/03 08:18:57 (permalink)
I just checked my PPD on this system.  With two 650 Ti cards on the system running 8900 WUs, I am getting less than 10K per day.
It looks like tripling the requirements has pushed me out after over 5 years of always making the numbers for EVGA.

Be careful with raising the bar.  PG is always tweaking the reference systems they use to set the Points per WU.

Later Edit:
I am looking at another system where I can fold part time, but the GTX 680 is working on a 9401 WU and generating less than 5K per day. This system used to generate a much higher PPD, but the new WUs are not going to work to meet that type of goal.

Darn, of well 3x the points needed and electric bill is surely not going down.  I wish I could continue to fold but alas, if doing good is basically my only incentive, I do enough of that with my wallet already.

Re: EVGA Folding Year 7 2014/03/03 19:19:09 (permalink)
I think I'm down for 750K. 5 EVGA points is better than nothing. 60 points in a year is better than nothing.  All I have to say is two things though:

1. Those Maxwell cards better fold out of some WUs otherwise that research that determined 1.5M was vastly overestimated.
2. The prices on those cards better not outweigh the cost of running them to get to that 1.5M ceiling.

I'm not going to say I'm done folding, pfft, but is going to make it even more casual than I was already.

For those of you calling it quits with folding, try crunching before you leave for good. It runs very well on older cards and pc's, and less demanding. There is a wider selection to chose from and no drama. No driver issues, an suspend when gaming with no loss in points. You get points, badges, swag and the satisfaction of doing some good with your computer. Try Boinc and you just might get hooked, it is fun and we are a new but growing team.

You don't have to worry about that, Maxwell's strong point is lower power consumption, the 750 TI is already impressive for what it does and only pulls 60w power consumption.

I predict the 860/870/880 cards to pull around 120w, 150w, and 180w when they come out

Re: EVGA Folding Year 7 2014/03/04 10:50:01 (permalink)
holy crap... My all-time record is 1.2 mil per month. 1.5 is pretty impossible with my 24/7 Xeon/660Ti, unless I'm not doing something right in the setup. I currently don't have anything under the Extra Slot Options in the GPU slot. Any suggestions?
