will this case fit with this mobo?

I don't think so, the board is 381mm and this case only has 8 expansion slots.

The mobo will fit the chassis but will sit behind the HD trays. There's 2 things left to do: pray for the HD tray be thin enough to plug the 24pin PSU cable on board or, revome the tray of =/

thanks, lgustavomp but Duane from Evga told me that will not fit in it.

Interesting to see those images. Are they actual size?

Apart of some small photo distortion, they match 98%. Here you can see, the blue dots are matching screw roles.

I really wish Duane is wrong, cause i'm going to order this case to put my SR-2

How about the new full tower case from Lian Li, the PC-A77f ??

http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=478&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=61&g=spec

Big enough?

That case only has 8 Expansion slots. To fully use this board, you need a 9 or 10 slot case (just like the x58 4-Way).

Hi rjbelans.

Lian Li is overvalued, I have the PC-X2000 and I can say that it hasn't bean well thought-out and forward planning in the design.

A manufacture that close there forum and hide for there customers, that company will only see may back in the future. I wouldn't spend a dime on there products.

But company that cares for there customers, they have my loyalty as a customer as long as I live and I have use of there products.

WOLF.

The WOLF is neither people's competitor nor his enemy. The WOLF is a fellow creature with whom the earth must be shared.

We will continue to update this list, we are currently evaluating another chassis that will also be added to this list in the next couple of days if it passes.

Hey JacobF,

I was wondering if you could forward the specs of this board to Jeremy at Danger Den?  They have the DD Double Tower case that looks awesome.  But no specs to mod case to board.  I hope Evga is allowing more than just MM access to board specs.

I read about this board with interest - I've not built a DP machine since socket 604 so when I read the feature set I was pretty stoked.    Hat's off to making the board but I'm with Gold Leader on this one - why oh why design the PCB so that it only fits (so far) in the MM case and doesn't conform to EATX.  I have an EATX case that I bought with one eye on future DP Xeon's.  I'll be lucky if it fits in it without any major mods - if at all.  From a UK POV how many folks are going to import a MM case and get creamed on the shipping and import as well as have something as big and ugly as an Intel Cabrillo in their house.  I've got more money than sense when it comes to buying hardware but I just think its short sighted and will preclude a lot of customers who would have certainly bought this board otherwise Particularly in UK and Europe if the only chassis vendor is in the USA.  Am I one of them? We'll see......

JacobF seems to be pretty busy in the GTX 400 launch forums, are there any other EVGA engineers who could send the EVGA Classified SR-2 specs to DD?  I dont have space for a MM EXT.

Anyone know if the SR-2 will fit the ThermalTake case Xaser VI? Its an ugly case but its damned cheap, and has ten expansion slots.

I don't know about ugly - maybe more of a crazy Transformers-robot scheme - not my taste but for the price if it fits...

It's a shame that more case manufacturers don't make detailed layout drawings available so we could figure it out ourselves, but then again they're used to dealing with standard board sizes so the need isn't really there.

I have a TT Xaser VI and the mobo tray barely fits the XL-ATX, so I would venture to guess a big no on getting the SR-2 in there.

We don't know what case can hold this tiny mobo, but we can grab a tape and take some measures of our cases to know what of them CAN'T fit the SR-2.

I got a HAF 932 and a ATCS 840 and.. . .

HAF 932: no way... the case is not deep enough. However if you put you PSU on top and cut the drive bay pillars off (dremel anyone?) MAYBE it would fit.

ATCS 840: it's deep but not tall enough, even if you put your PSU on top, the removable tray will blow away most of the possible chances of fit the mobo in.

Is't there someone if a full tower Lian-li to take some measures?

hopefully DangerDen doublewide tower gets on the list, did a slight mod on my doublewide to fit 13.6" height - it will fit. (thats what she said)

I don't think it will fit the danger den acrylic. The board is about 15.25 inches wide.  The case is 16.5 inches outer dimension.
Acrylic is 1/2 inch thick.  That puts inner dimmension at like 15.5 - but the IO panel is another 1/2 inch.  Then the board has to sit another .1 - .2 inches from the IO panel.  That puts you at needing inner dimension of at least 15.75 - can't do it.  Even if you could you wouldn 't have space to mount a fan on the front panel..

i'm currently using the cooler master cosmos 1000. might the board fit in either cosmos 1000 or cosmos-s?
the cosmos series is 628mm in width and features 7 expansion slots.

Cooler Master Big Towers

what is your opinion on this?

Re:EVGA Classified SR-2 Compatible Chassis' 2010/04/04 07:55:55 (permalink)
Well guys it seems to me that EVGA dropped the ball on this one. They have a great product but the execution is in question. They have produced a board that they did no give much thought about fitment. The board will not fit correctly in any case but with some patients / modifications it can fit. The ATCS 840 is a candidate but only if the removable tray is made fixed and an extension is added to the lower portion of the tray with the lower bracket removed. Also the Lian Li case, the PC-A70/71/P80 will allow fitment, the first two will require the PS to be mounted on top since the EVGA SR2 MB will extend into the lower PS space. Or you could just make your own case from 5052 or 6061 sheet if you are handy.

Guess it's time to get the tape out and start measuring the Corsair 800D sitting at home to see what needs to be done to make this sucker fit.  I figure the PSU shroud that runs along the bottom will have to be dremeled out for the length of the board to fit.  Why EVGA decided to make their own form factor is beyond me, it never bodes well in the public eye in the long term (yes I know dual NF200's and yada yada but seriously a 3-way SLI with E-ATX would've been just fine).

Well bad news on the 800D, it is tall enough, but not deep enough. Now the Lian Li A77F for all purposes does seem to be a case that would allow fitment and seems to be one of the easiest thus far to use, however it would still require some work since it was not designed for a MB the width "13.6" of the SR-2 ( width measured along the IO Panel side ) but will accommodate. Some holes may need to be drilled and threaded for the stand-offs with the right side hanging over the edge. As long as the immediate full size bay above the HD racks/caddy is not occupied (Memory stick clearance) then it should be OK.

Just also one point to add with all these cases, the power supply will not fit at the bottom of the caes when the MB is installed, it will have to go up top!

Just to be clear, this was for the Lian Li PC-A77 and NOT the A77F. The A77 drive caddy is flush with drive racks and the A77F model is not, as a result it does use up some space which could become a problem.

And Same anser for other chassis builder I contact......

It gone a be another nightmare wen the (clasified sr2 psu) for the mobo will it the shelves....

If EVGA dont find a solution soon this mobo gone a go to a big flop.
Sorry EVGA you make a great musle car but it to big and can't go out by the garage door we have to break the wall....

I found a solution : I will screew the mobo on my main entrance wall serounding it whit a frame like a picture and name it

hi all.
First of all: Beautiful motherboard. Congrats to EVGA!!
Here goes my first post here :)

This talk about supported case/chassis for the SR-2... I just want to add something else that i found (i apologize if its already been mentioned here, but i dont think it has been).
Its a USA firm called gamepc.com, they sell a case that supports the SR-2: http://www.gamepc.com/shop/product.asp?catalog_name=GamePC+Online+Products&category_name=Case&product_id=GP-ASR224

They also sell the SR-2 mobo (of course still backordered atm):
http://www.gamepc.com/shop/product.asp?catalog_name=GamePC+Online+Products&category_name=Motherboard&product_id=EVGA-CLASR2

And... they also sell custom builds configured with the SR-2 (and SLI gtx480's). Just thought id drop by here with these (for some of us) good news :)
http://www.gamepc.com/shop/systemfamily.asp?family=ds5

And NO, im not in any way related to this gamepc company; im just a xeonite from denmark, thats trying to find a case that suits me, that i can suit the sr-2 into too ;D

Re:EVGA Classified SR-2 Compatible Chassis 2010/04/06 19:39:48 (permalink)
Here goes my first post as well. It looks as though that case from gamepc.com is just a Pinnacle 24 from MM. I got sick of waiting for a case for sr-2 and went ahead and built a mountainmods case. I'm not a fan of their cases or their pricing but I think I built a pretty sick case. They finally updated their website to include the HPTX form factor with their U2-UFO and U2-UFO extended cases. The U2-UFO is the smallest case they carry that supports the SR-2 (18" x 18") so I bought that and used half windows on the side and and a big plexi top so the only thing in when looking into the case that will be visible is the SR-2 motherboard and all other electronics will be hidden below. I also felt more comfortable with this mountianmods case knowing that the motherboard will be laying flat instead of hanging which should allow for much heaver heatsinks should I decide I want to aircool the processors. I cant imagine what this thing will weight with two processors with big noctua heatsinks and 4 GTX 480's.  I've got everything I need now except for the SR-2. COME ON EVGA! get with the program. I've been waiting for a month to order this thing!
