Currently got an EVGA 1080 Classified GPU and very happy.

So considering EVGA for motherboard for upgrade from an old FX processor.

How are EVGA like for motherboards in general?

They've generally been very very good, but on occasion there's been a hiccup or two. The X58 series was phenomenal - I had several boards from that series and every one of them was sweet. The X79 series was when they had some real problems until they finally came out with the X79 Dark which was a great board and helped restore their reputation somewhat. I had a Z87 Stinger for a little while which was fine. The Z97 Classified is a very solid board and I'm still using that today and highly recommend it, although it is starting to get a bit dated now. My wife's rig uses a Z97 Stinger - also a great board with no issues whatsoever. I also tried the Z170 Stinger but went back to the Z97 after some driver conflicts, although I put most of the blame for that on MS and Intel - many others had a good experience with the Z170. I expect the Z270 series that was just announced to be a decent board, but I'd probably wait a little bit and see if there are any issues with the early adopters before jumping into it since it is so new. I have not tried any X99 boards but from what I have heard they seem to be good, if you need the 6/12 cores that is.

To sum up, generally EVGA have a very good record with motherboards, just a slip up with those early X79 series boards. Of course the other HUGE bonus is the service that comes with EVGA components - if something goes wrong, they will see you right for sure, unlike many other board manufactures - ASUS in particular - where getting good after-sale service is about as likely as finding hen's teeth.

In general evga motherboards are fine, but if you want more features or latest innovations, you will have to look at other mfg products.  Customer service isn't everything when it comes to shopping for new hardware. Most of the time hardware works like it should without any problems.

I've been working with EVGA motherboards since they first introduced them years ago. I have always found EVGA motherboards to be much more than satisfactory. Of course every person that builds a PC might have different needs so as a consumer please shop for the best choice to meet those needs. In the end I believe you'll find EVGA Z270 motherboards more than able to meet the majority of your needs, and then some.

I'm looking at the spec sheet for the Z270 FTW-K and 'Memory Type' lists "Up to 3600MHz+". Will the motherboard support that speed natively, or is that its overclocking potential? My understanding is that Kaby Lake is rated to support 2400MHz. I'm thinking about my new build and don't have much experience overclocking memory.

Are VRM numbers 'true' numbers or are they using doublers?

I'd think not, but what about the breakdown.. the Classified is listed as 13-phase.  But is that 13 phases to the CPU? Or is that 8 CPU, 2 memory & 3 for Intel Integrated GPU?

Yup, Creative Core 3D Audio.  Our last few high end board had Creative audio, the rest of the lineup has Realtek.

I put a lot more time into the manuals, there is far more content in them than before, a lot of the additions were made due to community feedback.

http://www.evga.com/support/manuals/files/132-KS-E277.pdf

Take a look, there is a lot more content there, and the Stinger manual will be available soon.

The second is correct; the breakdown is as follows:

Z270 Classified: 8 VCore, 2 RAM, 3 Video

Z270 FTW: 6 VCore, 2 RAM, 3 Video

Z270 Stinger: 3 VCore, 1 RAM, 2 Video

Thank you (for your feedback)! I think that's a good decision... As you see, I allready got a beautiful MB, but once EVGA, always EVGA. - Kind regards ^^

TO bad my mobo is out of the step-up program ,thats ok i can just add it to my wall here
but so far this board looks promising i like where the pic-e slots are , but I'm still concern about that
i/o shroud interfering with the 1st pic-e x1 slot ,as i had issues with my z170 with that shroud

I've used EVGA boards exclusively since the 790i Ultra. I have a x58 classified 3, z67 ftw, z77 ftw and my latest build, x99 FTW K... all very solid boards. You will not be disappointed performance wise. I am hearing rumor of an x299 now so I wonder how long that will take to arrive. I was hoping the new boards would have some RGB lighting but I have lighting on the 2 1080s, SLI bridge, Memory, CPU cooler and fans... seems to be enough  lol

Sorry to reboot here, but I still have a question about memory for the new boards. For my new build I'm probably going to go with an i5-7600K and EVGA's Z270 FTW K. If I purchase Corsair's Vengeance LED 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4 3200 Kit, will it just be "plug and play"? Or will I need to do some special tweaking?

It will likely POST, however it will not be set.  You will need to go an set XMP.

I would recommend first looking through the manual, http://www.evga.com/support/manuals/files/132-KS-E277.pdf
I would check page 39 to see if your specific kit of 3200 memory is supported.
Then page 53 last paragraph for a basic walk through setting up XMP.  Save and Exit and you should be good to go.

Thank you much for the quick reply. I'm not spending money yet and waiting for the dust to settle. I'm really looking forward to this new build and it should be kick butt.

NVMe controllers are pretty close to reaching price parity with AHCI controllers now. The biggest holdback at this point is market. More people looking for budget drives have SATA ports than m.2 or u.2 ports, so a lot of the budget drives target SATA since the slower transfer doesn't really hurt them and they have a wider audience.

Next gen budget M.2 drives should actually be cheaper to produce than SATA drives as they won't need any RAM on them (since NVMe 1.2 can use a system RAM buffer).

It's been five years since I built my last rig and I'm doing a lot of learning. Should I be able to install Windows on a 250GB M.2? Is it worth it?

You certainly can install Windows on a 250GB M.2.  I have Windows on a 512GB NVMe M.2 drive.  Previously, I used a much smaller drive for Windows.  Storage space isn't really an issue for Windows on a 250GB SSD.  I would still recommend to have a larger platter drive available as a storage or backup drive, but you'll certainly enjoy the speed improvement.

It's been five years since I built my last rig and I'm doing a lot of learning. Should I be able to install Windows on a 250GB M.2? Is it worth it?

Long as you go with Windows 10, you should have no problems installing on m.2 drive. You can pick up a windows 10 pro OEM key for around $20-30. It's very easy to make a Windows 10 USB boot drive.

Absolutely, right now I'm thinking about a 250GB NVMe M.2 for Windows, a 500GB SATA SSD, and a 1TB HDD.

EVGA, why has the Classy "only" a 6 Layer PCB (in context to the formfactor + voltage supply of it)?

Was an actual release date given?  I didn't see one anywhere on the ad, and it looks like other manufacturer's Z270 boards are already available.

That's the bad part about being the smallest mobo vendor. The OEM that actually makes the motherboards, they give higher priority to companies who buy more from them or is willing to pay more to receive the product faster.

Currently got an EVGA 1080 Classified GPU and very happy.

So considering EVGA for motherboard for upgrade from an old FX processor.

How are EVGA like for motherboards in general?

In general evga motherboards are fine, but if you want more features or latest innovations, you will have to look at other mfg products.  Customer service isn't everything when it comes to shopping for new hardware. Most of the time hardware works like it should without any problems.

Which features in particular do you wish EVGA would have included on their Z270 boards that other brands did include?
