I own two GTX980Ti cards (SLI configuration) and it just was not worth upgrading to the 1070 or 1080 cards.  I was able to stable overclock my GTX980Ti cards and am able to attain 'near' 1080 performance.  For me, that justified me waiting for the 1080Ti or Titan cards for my main system.  However, I also have a mini-ITX gaming system and was willing to go with a 1080 Hybrid as it is able to attain >20% gains in most games at 1440P or UHD resolutions without having to overclock (which is limited anyways because of the 600W power supply in my mini-ITX build).
 
The two main choices for a 1080 Hybrid solution are the MSI Sea Hawk X 1080 and EVGA's 1080 Hybrid.  Quite different approaches as MSI's 1080 Hybrid solution is essentially a reference PCB with single 8-pin PCI-E power connector, whereas EVGA's solution is essentially a FTW or Classified PCB & VRM configuration (no confirmation by EVGA on which one they chose for the 1080 Hybrid) with non-reference PCB with dual 8-pin PCI-power connectors.  That is the main reason why I preferred waiting for EVGA's Hybrid as I believe it will have a much better potential for overclocking ;-)

Extra power connector/phases/vrms etc have no bearing in overclocking headroom for pascal. No card can break 2.2 and most cap out around 2.15 that I've seen if not lower. From founders editions to ftw/strix/gaming z/xtreme gaming

I would believe that, but there's radio silence in regards to hybrid. They announced the Classified before the hybrid... My guess is it will be released right before the big Titan reveal next month.  I really wanted to get my hands on the hybrid, but I've been without a card since May. Now I'm at the point the first decent card I see I'm buying, and Asus and Gigabyte are the only ones consistently putting stock up.

Anyone wanna buy a second seahawk or evga hybrid off newegg or main site and sell it to me via ebay or something since newegg and evga doesnt ship to straight forwarder? :(

Well now... this might change things. lol
It will be interesting to see if Big Pascal is able to hit close to the same clocks seeing that it has a lower core & boost clock with 1024 additional CUDA Cores. A Pascal Titan X might be a pretty big jump in performance under a hybrid cooler. It will be interesting to see if the EVGA Hybrid kit will work on the FE Pascal Titan X.

Amazon getting allot of evga ftw cards lately..... so tempting...still hoping i can find an AIO next week x.x

You guys are making me so jelly..specially when i cant order things from newegg n'or main market site except for amazon and ebay thats out of stock and 300 overpriced at this moment....

GTX titan X is releasing in couple days, 1060 is out..., even classy came out before 1080/1070 hybrid. What hell is going on? Theres 5 business days left, and how they release the other cards I don't see it releasing this month... if its coming out August I am gonna pass and go for the Seahawk. 

Yeah EVGA kinda screwed up on their hybrid launch. Really not sure what their game plan is, but it isn't working.

Well i did say that the hybrid will release next week(end July) and till now...i still believe it will be released next week. Maybe this Tuesday...But hey even if it gets released next week i cant buy it sadly. I have to wait till amazon has them in stock for the price tag evga has since i cant purchase anything on newegg n'or evga.com
