I have an alert set for the Gigabyte 1080 Extreme Waterforce also. Whichever one is available to end up in my cart first will be the one I get.

Alerts don't work in time, the only way you'll get either cards, Gigabyte's or EVGA's whenever they release it, is by clicking on the actual page at the exact right time, OR, constantly spamming the refresh key all day everyday 24/7 AND EVEN STILL, you're competing with others doing the exact same thing, if not some coded piece of software.

MSI Seahawk is reference PCB FYI, since EVGA already released their DIY kits, you could just get a kit/cheaper reference card and voila, EVGA reference hybrid.

Too bad Hybrid kit for 1070/1080 went out-of-stock within the exact same time of any other card. I'm pulling the trigger: going with SeaHawk. I waited much too long, 2 month without gaming only to wait for this card... not worth it.

"if not some coded piece of software"... Yes, like something that continuously requests the product page and looks at the returned stock code, and if has stock sends me an email, txt, and pings my web dashboard, all with a link to the add to cart button... For sure "Alerts" don't work >_> I guess I'll assume you meant the notifications from EVGA, or Newegg, etc.

As for the EVGA 1080 GTX Hybrid... I'm just refreshing the product page randomly since I don't have the product number for it to automate and alert for it. Classy is now up on the page, but no Add to Cart or Notify me button.

I ordered the hybrid cooler kit for the gtx 1080. Does anyone know if I if it's compatible with reference backplate? I know I had to buy evga backplate for my 980ti hybrid kit. But I can't seem to find evga backplate for the 1080. Hope I can use the reference one.

Gratuitously overly macho Hybrid 1080 pic. Just waiting to get off duty and install it. Would rather it was an EVGA...

EVGA's Hybrid 1080 kit lasted for a few days upon release, surprised it lasted that long.

I assumed the basic forms of notification, guess you missed out on the first wave then with your method? Still might be too slow though with others refreshing the item directly into their carts--but something is better than nothing if you don't have a choice.

The Hybrid is way quieter than the SAW. The M249 is, sadly, air cooled, and factory limited to 800 freedoms (hURTz) per minute. Afraid to OC it on air, but the GPU is stress testing now...

Nope, I didn't have any alerts setup previously because I've been waiting for the EVGA 1080 GTX Hybrid. The point is the Gigabyte 1080 Extreme Gaming Waterforce looks to be just as good, if not better, than what is expected from the EVGA 1080 GTX Hybrid so I'm done waiting on EVGA. Unless EVGA can get the lead out and actually launch the product before the Gigabyte 1080 Extreme Gaming Waterforce is back in-stock I'll probably end up getting that. I would honestly rather get the EVGA card but they are really dragging their feet with this release and I'd like to finally be able to play all of the higher resource intensive VR games sitting in my library that my GTX 770 just can't quite handle without dropping to reprojection.

Honestly don't blame you, my finger is getting very itchy. I mean, look at this thread's page count for crying out loud, it's obviously the most wanted card, so why is it not in top priority? I can only assume they must have run into some sorta problem beyond overall shortages, why else can't they reveal ANY information just yet? It's strange... The most appealing thing to me about Gigabyte's card is the full coverage, they got EVGA beat on that one big time.

Forgive me if this question has been answered fellas but I'm in somewhat of a hurry. Does the new 1070/1080 hybrid kits come with the VRM cooler/fan? If I'm looking to get the kit in the future I might aswell get a ACX 3.0 right now. Anybody?

I got the ACX 2.0 980Ti back when and could never find somebody selling a separate reference blower to match the kit so I never got around to it.

If you look at the product page it shows the eVGA fan.  It also lists the regular and SC cards as compatible, so it will work.

Hot Damn! Didnt even see that logo! This is confirmed then? I know my 980ti was "compatible" aswell cause it was a built on a reference board, but you still needed that blower.

If I remember correctly, it wasn't listed as compatible on eVGA for the 980 ti with the ACX.  It showed it as compatible only with reference style cards.

I noticed that the 'place marker' for the Classified appeared on EVGA's 1080 graphics products page (at the very bottom):

I got the ACX 2.0 980Ti back when and could never find somebody selling a separate reference blower to match the kit so I never got around to it.

If you look at the product page it shows the eVGA fan.  It also lists the regular and SC cards as compatible, so it will work.

EDIT:

Hot Damn! Didnt even see that logo! This is confirmed then? I know my 980ti was "compatible" aswell cause it was a built on a reference board, but you still needed that blower.

No, that kit is not compatible with the GTX980Ti.  There is a listing of product codes that are compatible and none of them are for the GTX980Ti.  If you really want an upgrade kit for your GTX980Ti ACX 2.0, your only real choice for a Hybrid solution is the Corsair Hydro Series HG10 N980 (yes, it's compatible with the GTX980, GTX980Ti and Titan):

Forgive me if this question has been answered fellas but I'm in somewhat of a hurry. Does the new 1070/1080 hybrid kits come with the VRM cooler/fan? If I'm looking to get the kit in the future I might aswell get a ACX 3.0 right now. Anybody?

Thanks man but I got the information I was looking for. Not that it's a "proper" upgrade but it looks like I'm gonna be passing my 980ti on and adding a little something to get the 1070 :) Mostly just cause and to be able to get the hybrid kit eventually.

Re: EVGA 1080 Hybrid? 2016/07/21 05:42:07 (permalink)
I own two GTX980Ti cards (SLI configuration) and it just was not worth upgrading to the 1070 or 1080 cards.  I was able to stable overclock my GTX980Ti cards and am able to attain 'near' 1080 performance.  For me, that justified me waiting for the 1080Ti or Titan cards for my main system.  However, I also have a mini-ITX gaming system and was willing to go with a 1080 Hybrid as it is able to attain >20% gains in most games at 1440P or UHD resolutions without having to overclock (which is limited anyways because of the 600W power supply in my mini-ITX build).

The two main choices for a 1080 Hybrid solution are the MSI Sea Hawk X 1080 and EVGA's 1080 Hybrid.  Quite different approaches as MSI's 1080 Hybrid solution is essentially a reference PCB with single 8-pin PCI-E power connector, whereas EVGA's solution is essentially a FTW or Classified PCB & VRM configuration (no confirmation by EVGA on which one they chose for the 1080 Hybrid) with non-reference PCB with dual 8-pin PCI-power connectors.  That is the main reason why I preferred waiting for EVGA's Hybrid as I believe it will have a much better potential for overclocking ;-)

He asked if the new kit worked with the ACX versions of the 1070/1080 to place them later if he bought an ACX now.

What use is knowledge if there is no understanding?~Stobaeus

Yeah, I missed that.  Thanks.  Of course the Hybrid kit works on the 1070/1080 ACX versions - it says so right on the product page
