Vram will be the main concern here. GTX 470 SLI will be faster but you will only have 1280MB of vram. The 760 has 2GB or 4GB. You would have to SLI to make good use of the 4GB of vram though.

Wouldn't the VRAM stack up between the cards though?

Right now 2GB of Vram on a 1920x1080 monitor is just fine. If you ever plan to go up in resolution to something like 2560x1440 you will need at least 3GB for upcoming titles. However. A game like Skyrim with loads of texture mods can reach up to 3GB vram on a 1080p resolution. With 470 SLI you wont be able to max out Battlefield 3. The horsepower is there but the vram is not. So you may see yourself getting over 60fps but you will stutter like crazy because BF3 uses more than 1280MB of ram when maxed out at 1080p resolution.

Really depends on what you want to do and how high you want any eye candy (as OV3RCLK4 stated). When you SLI cards, you will be limited to the lowest amount of VRAM. I have 580 SC's and have about half a dozen texture mods in Skyrim. In some areas, where the increase in texture and scenery is heavy, my FPS drop drastically and the game starts to stutter. Even before I loaded those mods, I would see my VRAM come close to maxing out. The newer games, especially on high/ultra settings, can really put some stress on the VRAM.

No. The system ram is too slow for this. That is why people get massive stuttering in games when they go over their Vram limit. The game starts using your system ram and its just not fast enough.

Either that or 670 4GB SLI. The 670 is still a little bit faster than a 760 and there is also a chance the 670 will overclock to be faster than a GTX 680. If you do any type of game recording I recommend the 700 series because there are some new features that allow you to record gameplay with less fps drops than DXtory or Fraps.

I think you're talking about Shadowplay. Its integrated to Kepler Architecture. So 600/700 series and up will have it. Not released yet but soon.

Even at this resolution my sli 480 (1.5 gb) was enough in the game noted above. If you play at 1080p then 2 gb is plenty

I used SLI 570s with 1280MB of VRAM, and with max everything BF3 was around 100FPS at 1080p (they were at 925MHz core/2050MHz memory). There was some stuttering, but in only happened if I was in the side of a helicopter really high up looking at a large area of land. It was a pleasant experience, but I like my single TITAN better. IMO 2GB isn't enough for current gaming at 1080p. I use around around or above 2GB in every game I play. I would recommend you buy 2 new GTX 670FTW 4GB models off of eBay for around $300 each, as they are more powerful than the 760 by a fair margin and in the same price range. Don't, however, buy them from ANY retailer's website as they are not worth what they are asking. You still get your warranty benefits if you buy off eBay so that is good too.

I'm on my phone now, but when I get on and play later I'll take some screenshots and post them. From what I've seen, VRAM usage depends partly on the amount of VRAM your card has so that may be why I'm using more.

Have you already looked up reviews of GTX760 that include a single GTX460 to compare with, for instance this Anandtech review? Numerically, 760 is an effective double 460, but in SLI scaling rarely goes up 100%; so at least in Crysis 3 single-player at 1080p, 760 is faster than 460 in SLI. But if playing in multi-player, the game would be CPU-bound and the scaling won't be as high. Also, resolution is mainly a factor if we are concerned with making games CPU-bound on top of played single- or multi-player. At that point your CPU and its overclock (if any) matter much more than a new graphics card. Remember, your CPU runs your games and only the CPU tells the graphics card what to draw; don't expect one change to make all the difference in your games unless you had integrated video before. Carlitos714 If you play at 1080p then 2 gb is plenty Be specific. To say "If you play at 1080p then 2 gb is plenty" assumes time pretty much stops as if no future games will use more resources than today or that the OP won't get new games. But history has shown that future titles always use more resources, which is why we get better hardware, but the resolutions haven't been changing over the years. It wasn't long ago that 1GB was plenty for 1920x1200 and 512MB was once plenty for 1920x1200. The only real changes are the games themselves and the graphics cards. The likelihood that 4GB is plenty for 1920x1200 in a few years is very high, the question is will someone keep their hardware unchanged that long? Well the OP is still holding onto a single 460, in which the type first debuted just over three years ago. Better to plan ahead.

I'd highly recommend going with the GTX 760, it's a lot easier on the PSU than a pair of GTX 470's. Those GTX 470's are power hogs.

I currently have 2x EVGA GTX 470's in SLI and Water-cooled. I can play all games at max settings running at 720MHz Core Clock and 2100MHz Memory Clock. I don't know why people are saying that you cannont play Skyrim or BF3/4 without 2GB, that is just False. staright out false. I have been playing Skyrim with HD texture mods and BF3 @ Ultra Settings and running at 45-60 FPS. I am currently in the process of upgrading to 2x EVGA GTX 670's because the GTX 670 is faster than the GTX 760 in all aspects. I hope this helps.
