Do we have a definitive answer why 1080/2080 cards are failing?

I've seen a lot of similar posts across 1080/2080 line, I'm adding mine to the list. I'm having the same issues many other people have expressed on this forum which I've been fighting for a couple months. I'm on my 4th RMA card now (2 x 1080 SC2, 1080 Ti SC Black Edition Gaming and soon to be a 2080 XC Ultra). All get the same lock up when at the loading screen for Black Ops 4, if you alt tab out you'll see "Space Invaders" artifacting on the task manager white background. If I run 3DMARK, 3DMARK 11 it artifacts and locks up the PC forcing a hard reset. I have issues in all recent AAA games but Black Ops 4 is like clockwork, it's GOING to lock up and artifact at the "connecting" screen. CoD WWII gets some hilarious "stretchy character" artifacts, Far Cry 4 crashes after a few minutes, Black Ops 2 will run fine for a while then the crashes start which turns into a string of crashes. I RMA'd all the parts in my Z270 build after I RMA'd the video card thinking I'd eliminated that as the source of the problems and still had issues. I then sold all those parts and made a new Z390 build, same issue.

I bought an EVGA 2070 XC Ultra Gaming and had no issues at all, returned that when the 1080 Ti arrived only to be disappointed again.

This has been an incredible source of frustration and a huge waste of my time and money.

EVGA support has been very good I must say. After two RMA's on 1080 SC2's they upgraded me to the 1080 Ti SC, when that still wasn't a fix they upgraded me again to the 2080 XC Ultra with a complimentary advanced RMA. I'm currently waiting for the 2080 XC to arrive, hoping it'll be as stable as the 2070 XC Ultra was. All the upgrades are appreciated but do me no good if the cards don't work under load.

If you ever find out let me know. My black ops 4 and shadow of the tomb raider crash under load too, 1080Ti FTW3. On my second RMA.

Either EVGA is just shuffling around broken cards via RMA and wasting everyone's time or there is an incredibly high failure rate.

Are these failures rates equal across all brands? Msi, pny, zotac etc.?

I've spent a week with the latest card they sent me.

EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 XC ULTRA GAMING, 08G-P4-2183-KR, 8GB GDDR6, Dual HDB Fans & RGB LED

No issues and everything is working as it should, the only thing that has changed is the GPU. This card has Micron memory so we'll see how it holds up over the next 1.5 years of remaining warranty I have.

1.5 years? Did they replace your 1080 with a 2080?

There are reports that a batch of memory dies from Hynix/Micron got contaminated with something.
It is not clear how many memory modules have been contaminated, and in how many cards they got, but Nvidia changed to Samsung memory modules a while ago.
Problems persist on older RTX 2070 and 2080 cards, and first batches of 2060 cards.

Mine 2080ti ftw3 ultra has micron memory too and just died in 2 months. When you Google this problem I don't see any asus dying or zotac. At the moment I'm using 4 years old 1050 and this crappy card with only 2gb memory have Samsung memory not micron and its 4 years old!

How can you be using a card for four years if they came out less than two and a half years ago...? They came out in Oct. 2016.

Maybe he got a really super massive tech preview of the card?

Yes, it's all in the first post. Started with a 1080 SC2 > 1080 SC2 > 1080Ti SC (EVGA upgraded me during RMA) > 2080 XC ULTRA (EVGA upgraded me during RMA).

I think you're assuming everyone purchases the extended warranty? I didn't know they even offered an extended warranty
until recently so I wasn't able to buy it. The standard warranty is three years, 600 days left on my warranty.
