Well its been a few years with the same BIOS without any problems.
BIOS version: Phoenix Technologies ltd 6.00 PG
Release date: 8/25/2011

I just recently purchased a EVGA GTX 770 from B-Stock
 http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=04G-P4-3778-RX
PN: 04G-P4-3778-RX

Do i need to update the BIOS for any reason for this new card?

I'd say no.  I'm still running 4/20/2010 and just added 780 without any issues with my OC.  You should be fine with what you have.

    Thanks.
I hate plugging something in to find out that i needed to do just ONE more update somewhere.
Hopefully after updating the Nvidia Drivers, i can just plug and play.

You should not need any updates but you're welcome to contact EVGA tech support for verification if you wish to do so.

You should always run the latest BIOS, unless it holds back your overclocks.

Yes it certainly doesn't hurt if you wish to update your motherboard BIOs. You can always check with EVGA tech support if you have questions about the video card firmware.

Typically EVGA tech support would tell you that unless the update fixes a specific problem or adds a specific feature that you want or need, then don't worry about updating.  There is a certain amount of risk involved with updating the bios.  It has gotten far less over the years, especially with multiple bios's, but there is still a risk.

Card works excellent right out of the box.
I just updated Nvidia Drivers and i was off and runnin.

The reason i was wondering about the BIOS for the card is that there are cards that needed a BIOS update to unlock the fans.
I wasnt sure if that BIOS update applied to me or not.
    http://forums.evga.com/tm.aspx?m=2036288
The second post below Jacobs is the same PN as mine, but, is not on the list in Jacobs post.
I contacted Jacob F, and he said that there were no current BIOS updates for my card.
So,am i to assume that my card does not have the fan problem that other models had?

I guess i could run up the temps and see if the fan curve kicks in.

I wouldn't  worry.  If Jacob said there isn't one, the just have fun.  You can always set a custom fan profile with Precision.

I beginning to wonder if there needs to be a refreshment of the X58 bios for use with the newer GPU's.  I'm having the same issue with both of the GTX660 & GTX660Ti.  Seems my video will not come back after S3 resume (sleep).  Never had this problem before with a 9800GT, GT420, GTX470, or a GTX560Ti.  I've tried a few different settings, but none of which seem to correct the issue.  For the time being, I just completely shut down the PC to save on power when I'm not using it.  If I can't resolve it soon, I'm pulling the GTX660 and going back to the GTX560Ti.

Yup. But I doubt it's going to happen. Pretty much any GPU above the 500 series has issues resuming from S3 sleep on several EVGA X58 boards. I don't know about other board makers. I've resigned myself to using hibernate until I update to another platform.

I couldn't take it that my PC can't sleep with a 600-series installed.  So I switched back to using the GTX560Ti as my primary display card and I am using the GTX660 as the PhysX card, which also doubles as a folding GPU at the moment.  If I every need extra GPU power, I have another GTX560Ti laying around that I could SLI, but would require me to remove the GTX660 from service.

Re: Do I need a BIOS update? 2014/03/11 13:34:02 (permalink)
I'm not really concerned too much if people want to update BIOS or not.  While you should certainly update the BIOS if there's an issue fixed by the update, it's not necessarily the most important thing to do otherwise - especially if everything is running well.  Overclockers know all too well that not every newer BIOS is best for max overclocking, as stability can change from one BIOS to the next.

Although there may be some compatibility help by using a more recent BIOS, the newer video cards with a UEFI BIOS will not really be impacted much with a BIOS update, as the X58's do not have a UEFI BIOS, and you cannot change it to a UEFI BIOS.

As for the 770 BIOS update, if the card isn't on the list in that thread, there isn't a BIOS update for it.  All that BIOS does is increase the range on the fans, and nothing performance related otherwise.

Anyway, glad to hear everything installed properly and you're up and running.
