Sorry to necro, but I am seeing the same issues happening with my EVGA GTX 1080 TI FTW3 and Acer ET430K 4K monitor connected with displayport.  I have two monitors hooked up to the video card, one being the 43" 4k acer with DP and the other being a 23" Acer 1920x1080 with HDMI.  The 43" will go black for about 2 seconds every several hours regardless of what I'm doing on the computer but the 23" will never do it.  Everything is nearly brand new, just built this computer.  I have a feeling an earlier poster was correct regarding the displayport cable causing the problem, because I'm using the displayport cable that came with the monitor.  I am going to buy a new displayport cable and will re-post with the results after testing it for a while.

I have the Acer ET430K monitor with EVGA GTX 1080 FTW2 and it's doing the same thing.
I've tried both DP, setting to DP1.1, mini-dp to dp (all with the new certified/Accell cables bought on Amazon, shortest length I can find)
Did a DDU and clean install of display drivers
Unplugged all the cables and power on the monitor to try to reset it
Reseated my GPU

My roommate has the same monitor as well and he experienced it maybe once or twice.
I'm out of ideas.

Confirmed, I got a new VESA certified displayport cable, and it's still doing the same thing going black randomly for about 2 seconds then coming right back.  It's probably a defect in this type of monitor, or an issue maybe with it getting hot because I have the brightness very high or something.  Perhaps I'll try connecting with a HDMI cable for a while and see if it continues.

I tried turning the brightness down from 100 to 75 to see if that changes anything first.  Will update with results~

It's hard to test this in a timely manner because it only happens like once or maybe twice a day.

One other thing of note though, is that the blue light that indicates it's receiving signal from the GPU is staying blue and not turning orange when it happens, so that would indicate the cord probably isn't the issue, actually.

Of course it isnt.
Cords work just fine in older cards not a single problem.
Put them in a 900 or newer card, with boost 2.0 +, and low power assist, and all of a sudden issues crop up all over the place.
But, its not evga's falt, its yours (its probably Nvidia's, but since evga is selling their own and nvidia cards, its their issue also).
:p

Lowering the brightness of the monitor didn't change anything either.  Going to start reaching out to Acer support.

So after doing everything I possibly could... I was able to create a custom profile from the Nvidia panel in resolution to software "force" 59hz instead of "60"... it's been a few days and I haven't had a black screen. Will let you know if anything changes... fingers crossed

I got a high speed HDMI 2.0 and I've gone a whole day without a black screen unless I missed it, looks good so far and still runs at 4K 60hz.

I still have issues with gaming, but since putting in that 580 as dedicated physx, plus afterburner, AND setting the preference to "GPU Temp Target" instead of the default "power target", my gaming has gotten better, but I still have issues, and sometimes I have to shut down, and restart, to get my computer back to both looking good and playing good.
I wish I would have bought a monitor with dvi and hdmi and dp, instead of of JUST DP. I have no other options, like you guys do, to try to see if it works on dvi or hdmi.
Glad you got your system working though.

It sounds like we're probably dealing with a different issue.  My screen was just going black randomly for 2 seconds regardless of what I was doing.  Only on the 4K monitor, not on my 1080 2nd monitor, and it wouldn't cause anything to crash or close or for the monitor to go into suspend mode.  Just 2 seconds of black screen every 6 or 8 hours and it would come back on it's own and be fine for several more hours.  I think this was just an issue with this particular monitor not liking Displayport for some reason.  It's been another day and I still haven't seen a black screen, though it's hard to say with certainty if it's actually fixed because it's possible it's happened while I'm not looking at the screen.

EVGATech_JaesonW
The issue stems from many DP cables are not actually meeting the correct standards. Specifically, the #20 pin should be uni-directional for voltage to go between the video card and monitor, but for daisy-chaining DP monitors you need bi-directional voltage. It seems many cables regardless of spec are being make bi-directional, and this ends up causing a short that results in the black screening issues you hear about everywhere.

This is a great answer buy you did not recommend any tested cables that would work with almost all your video cards with Display Ports.  You should never answer a problem without a solution.  Give us a solution other than "buy an adapter".   I have 4k monitor, works fine at 4k with R9 Fury X.  When I hook up the same monitor with the same cable to the EVGA 1080ti Hybrid FTW card I get black screen.  My one HDMI port works as advertised.  Nothing in my literature that came with the card, 1080ti Hybrid, that told me that I needed a special cable or that the displayport may not work.   These cards are faulty if they don't work with DP cable.  If you buy a new card it should work as advertised with needing an adapter.
Thanks.
