I have a EVGA GTX 980 Ti Classified ACX 2.0+.  I RMA'd the card once already because it was not showing video on boot.

After receiving the second card, a day later the same behavior cropped up.  I tried a different troubleshooting approach by plugging in the HDMI and DVI-D cables, instead of DisplayPort cables.  I normally use the DVI-D-to-HDMI and DVI-D cables in a Pluggable UD-3900 dock as a KVM using the Pluggable USB 3.0 switch.

Booting from the DVI-D and HDMI connection works fine. When I plugged the DisplayPort cables into the card the signal instantly switched over to the DP connection.  When I shut down and tried to restart with the DP cable plugged in I am back to having no signal.

I am considering trying alternate cables, but given that they work they are plugged in post-boot I'm not super confident that will change anything.

Ideal configuration (that worked for a day or so):
  • Dell U2412M
    • DP to GTX 980 Ti
    • DVI-D to Pluggable UD-3900 DVI-D
  • Dell U2412M
    • DP to GTX 980 Ti
    • DVI-D to Pluggable UD-3900 HDMI (via DVI-D to HDMI cable)

Troubleshooting configuration:
  • Dell U2412M
    • DP to GTX 980 Ti (unplugged at boot)
    • DVI-D to GTX 980 Ti DVI-D
  • Dell U2412M
    • DP to GTX 980 Ti (unplugged at boot)
    • DVI-D to GTX 980 Ti HDMI (via DVI-D to HDMI cable)
Card is running . Anyone else having issues with DisplayPort connections on their GTX 900 series?

I wouldn't count out the idea that its the cable.  Those DisplayPort cables can be finicky.  Went through 4 cables before I could get 144hz @ 2560x1440 (And all were supposedly high bit rate cables too).

I will do you one better - since I have the exact monitor,  I  can confirm it is most likely the monitor giving you fits.... I'm using a 780 Ti .........

I am running windows 10 x 64 bit now ( WIN 7 was fine )  & My  U2412M  will randomly, usually after a reboot or restart loses the display resolutions info and only displays 640 x 480 .

I am using display port and this was driving me crazy, nothing worked but trying to uninstall drivers , reinstalling nvidia to get my screen back to normal ...... I finally found 1  post on the entire internet about it.   So simple of a fix but so incredibly annoying.

All I have to do is unplug the displayport cable and then plug it back in.!   Everything goes right back to normal.  Weirdest thing I've ever seen.  Windows 7 works fine & normal without this problem ,but Win 10 doesn't .

Apparently part of the issue stems with the way Dell made the monitor and refuses  to send Microsoft an updated Win 10 compatible version to work .......  but also WHY can't microsoft get the generic monitor inf  to recognize properly either ????

maybe throw in some issue w/ nvidia drivers & displayport  ???  Not sure on that part of it , but the issue is ridiculous to have to put up with.

    displayport.org

    1. There are NOT that many certified DisplayPort cables,  lots that say they are DisplayPort cables but not many certified.
    2. DisplayPort certified cable from 1.0 is 1.1 and 1.x compatible.  If you bought the first certified cable off the factory years ago it will do [link=mailto:4K@60hz]4K@60hz[/link]
This basically means if the manufacture isn't on their certified list then it is a compatible cable and they like to go cheap so you get this whole 1.0 1.1 1.1b, etc... versions  and there are many non-certified cables that have history of faulty sleep/wakeup on montors.

That said, some monitors are flakey too.  I returned an Asus PB287Q 4K monitor because it didn't come out of sleep correctly disconnected/reconnected like you describe  AND it didn't do 60hz.    Switched to a BenQ 32" 4K and rock solid.
This is all on certified DisplayPort cables, this is who I knew it was the monitor.

I had the same issue using 980 Kingpin trying to use DP 1.2 daisy-chained u2415 monitors. I did an RMA and the second card was a bit more stable (but still blacks out).

I've never had any issues using cards from other vendors before. EVGA made me rage two days ago and I ordered a 980 Ti Lightning from Newegg - guess what, no more DP problems. :P
