So I don't know the most appropriate place to post this curious question. This is not an issue at all but I am wondering if anyone else has played Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition and has a high core count CPU. I have played it on my Threadripper 3960x and it uses on average 35-48% of my CPU. I just found this shocking because I don't know of any other game that remotely comes close to that level of active usage. It runs like a dream so far at about 90-130fps. I play on a 3440x1440 120hz ultrawide. My settings are all settings on High with Ray tracing at Ultra and DLSS at performance. This is by far my best experience with Raytracing and DLSS so far since I picked up my 2080 Super. Like I said this is purely for curiosity to see if others with high core count CPUs are getting the same result of it using up more than you would have thought. Now I have tested this on a 9900k with a 2080 and it also runs great with about 30% CPU usage on the 9900k. This just makes it all the more interesting that it uses up so much more CPU on a higher count CPU. Thanks in advance for any experience you can share.

I haven’t really looked at that but it does look really good. I am guessing ray tracing only games will really have high CPau use age as they are the future.

Seems normal. My 3960x does the same.

Thanks, Sajin. I was really wondering if it was a normal thing. I know that I look forward to a day where they optimize games to use more threads than high clocks. This almost looks like what that is. Maybe this is a look into what it will become.

No problem. Yeah, optimizing for threads would be great. Hopefully we get more of this in the future. 👍

I agree that more threads would be great to see used. A lot of games could use extra threads a lot more then more power. It would be great to see a thread just processing the AI people in the world around you so they don’t get stuck on doors or run into walls.

I think the biggest problem with such systems is the optimization for the masses, since it would have to be made to run on different systems and not all calculations run optimally on CPUs

Yea I think in a perfect world it would work by reading your system info like it already does. Then it finds the CPU and it determines the cores possible like many games also already do. From there it would spread its self out on as many cores as reasonable. If you have fewer cores higher IPC and clock speed would definitely still benefit and if you happen to have more it could intelligently use more cores. Of course, this would be in a perfect world. I do know that this has obviously come a long way and they are working towards this. APIs like Vulkan are doing a wonderful job at better spreading load across more cores. Can't wait for the day that this becomes more of a reality for the benefit of all gamers.
