A substantial severe-weather event is expected today and tonight over parts of the central and southern Plains, with tornadoes, destructive hail and damaging wind all possible. Damaging wind also is expected from a complex of thunderstorms moving across the lower Missouri Valley and middle Mississippi Valley region this morning into early afternoon.

Going to be an interesting evening/night that's for sure.  Just glad we finally have a tornado shelter to take cover in if needed.

We've already had some decent hail and very heavy rain in Kansas City this morning. I'm hoping that the rain this morning will stabilize the atmosphere enough that we won't have any nasty weather tonight. But if the sun comes out at all, then all bets are off.

Thankfully with the heavy rain in the morning it helped slow the storm growth around us. Just ended up with more heavy rain and lightning. But tonight (Wednesday) we have another chance at storms across northern Missouri that may give another chance at severe weather. Hopefully those of you out in Kansas didn't have any problems.

Well, that was a "fun" ride last night. Luckily we didn't have the 60 mph winds, that some had. Shouldn't be much of no rain complaint for a bit.

Craziness - just had a tornado touchdown here in Omaha!  Luckily I work just south of the path of it - but this is the first time we've had a touchdown here in the city limits for a good 10-20 years that I can think of.

We had hail here that was coming down like big broken chunks of icecubes. Normally we get tiny hard white balls of hail.....like BB's. Also a few dozen people reported a small tornado/twister touch down for about a minute. We NEVER get those ever. Weather service says it wasn't possible but limbs were torn off trees, bushes uprooted, and wooden fences torn apart on a path about 2 blocks long.

We get crazy wind, rain, and thunder but never a tornado......a mini one or otherwise.

Just had a tornado warning about 25 miles from my house. My brother took video of it from the other side of the highway which was about an 1/8th mile away from him. Luckily it never completely touched down and didn't cause any damage.

Last year we used our storm shelter once, last night was the first time this year we have used it.

What's getting worse in Oklahoma is the earthquakes from fracking. My state was never known for earthquakes, until the fracking boom started in 2008.

Fracking does not cause earthquakes. That's propaganda, and falsehoods started by the anti-fossil-fuel crowd. More than ninety percent of the new oil-and-gas wells drilled in America use hydraulic fracturing. Therefore, if they can ban fracking, they end America’s new era of energy abundance, the jobs, and economic stimulus it provides.

The Wastewater disposal wells (from Fracking) is causing earthquakes. Before 2008 Oklahoma wasn't known for having earthquakes, after the fracking boom started,  Oklahoma set the record for most Earthquakes last year.

Oklahoma starting to reduce amount of wastewater can be pumped into the wells.
I will take clean water and no earthquakes over short term economic gains from Fracking industry.

It's fracking stupid. Fracking produces so much contaminated waste water that the industry itself admits they cannot contain. This is causing the contamination of fresh water wells, streams, lakes, and rivers.

I'm not sold on the Earthquake thing, but the data is interesting.

Every day more scientists and seismologists are agreeing that injecting waste water into the ground is causing man made earthquakes. Oklahoma have started to reduce the amount of waste water fracking companies can pump into each injection well.
