So I've decided to upgrade to a 1080 FTW2, I had a few questions to ask of owners. The reviews are all pretty much glowing for the card, but I'd like some real world experiences. I'm upgrading from a GTX970 SC so already know what to expect from EVGA in terms of build quality and general piece of mind ownership experience...

My Questions:

What kind of probability am I looking at for the BIOS flash up to 11Ghz Memory clock not working?
Do the asynchronous fans exhibit any kind of odd sound profile? I read some stuff on the interwebs about the fans sounding "odd" when they spin up as they spinning at different speeds.
Also is the FTW2's overclock in the BIOS, as in will I have to install the EVGA software to get the OC? I'm not a fan of having multiple apps running in the background. Even though with 16gigs of RAM it shouldn't really pose a problem.

Thanks in advance for your help! Just as an aside the card I'm half considering as an alternative is the MSI GTX 1080 X+, and I've just returned a Aorus GTX1080 11gbps. The latter card wasn't actually the 11gbps card and required me to have the crappy aorus software running to get the advertised OC out of the card....

Welcome to the forums! If you just purchased the card, it would likely already have the 11 GHZ VRAM. The VRAM actually runs at 1375 Mhz, and you will see different monitoring programs show it as 1375 or 5500 or 11K.
You may hear the fans come on independently that is not unusual, but they come on at low speeds so it should not be bothersome.
The card has a factory Overclock, which is flashed to the BIOS, and you do not need to run any software to have the card run with a sizable overclock.

Sweet thanks. I'm assuming the card will be a recent shipment, I haven't placed my order yet. Although the cards are recent restock, so fingers crossed it's 11ghz out of the gate. I'm just waiting for the money from the Aorus GTX 1080 to be returned to me and I then I'll be ordering.

I was just curious to find out what people's experience with the upgrade to 11 ghz has been and generally with the card. So I know what to expect...

I have the same Gpu and have to say I’m very happy with everything about it,mine didn’t come with the 11 ghz so I had to flash the bios,I’ve had zero issues.

The build quality of this card is (in my option) 2nd to none, you will be very happy with it,mine boost to 2025 MHz out of the box, which I think is fairly standard,I haven’t OC-ed no need too.

How recently did you buy your card? I'm thinking of getting the card from an alternative e-tailer than I usually do as they offer pick from drop off locations... My prefered e-tailer I know just recently got them back in stock...

Quick Update, so I bought the FTW2 in the end, should be hopefully arriving with me tomorrow...

Very much looking forward to it arriving! Fingers crossed its BIOS upgraded out of the box, if not isn't one that isn't stable at 11ghz...
