I cannot lock the holder in, the pressure required is so great that it leaves a scratch on the sides of the CPU (notice the marks).
I cannot lock the lever in because the force required would break it.
Z68 SLI mobo, Intel i5 2500k CPU
Please help

Scratches are not a big deal.
If you can send more pix of the lid as far down as it gets and shoot it from the side, that would give more to th story. Make sure to get all the ends in the photos.

Ignoring the handle, if you lower the frame, and jiggle it so there is nothing locking it up, will the fork be under the level of the locking post?

That is as far down as it goes; And yes the fork goes under it.
And the pics in that guy's article looks exactly like my problem

There is going to be pressure on the CPU locking mechanism. Maybe even hear some crunching. That's normal. Though I do have to say those dents in the CPU have me worried.

First time ive ever had, and ever seen, this kind of problem with the mobo socket.
Im guessing either the indents on the frame are too deep, or the locking post (at the very bottom) is too low for the fork.

There was quite a bit of crunching when I first installed my i5-2500k into my Z68 FTW. It had me worried, but I watched very closely and slowly lowered the lever. Nothing seemed to be going wrong so I went ahead and pushed the lever down in. When the build was finished everything powered on nicely and worked great. :)

Later when I went to apply different TIM and a new cooler to the CPU the lever lowered a lot easier. I removed the CPU to clean it and put it back and it was nice and smooth.

Though I must say the noise was a bit disturbing. It really does sound like you're breaking something :/

Just make sure your notches on the cpu are right with the board, and then seat it, wiggle it barely, then pull down the arm to lock it. Yes it will be tight, but no worries.

Issue resolved, customer support said this is how it was designed (very tight), and so I forced it closed.
Had to do it really fast and forcefully, I am still not sure if it's supposed to scrape the sides of the CPU.
But who wouldn't take the cautious approach with a new MOBO+CPU?
