For the Water Temp 38C is really high, I checked 4 of my loops and none of the Water Temps where above 26C.
When you re-did your loop did your Clean Out and Flush your Radiators?
Also because you have ONE Loop and you Pump is running at only 50% I would add that your Water Flow is to low.
Set your Pump to run at least 80% and see if your Water Temps come down.
I would get this device to see what your Water Flow is.

The problem is that temps are much too high for the clockspeed and voltage: 4.0GHz 1.075v (3.6GHz 1.050v Cache)

How is the Temperature on the Back Plate of the CPU Socket?
Also is their a air vent on the back side over the CPU Back Side?

I've seen from others where their jetplate was installed incorrectly and that increased their temps.  

What kind of fluid are you using and is it clear enough to see the channels on the CPU block free of debris or build up?

Id rather not spend 50+ usd on a thing just to check flow, ill run my pump at 100% and test all again.

Im thinking of changing out the pump-res to laing ddc with bitspower top and ek heatsink, JayzTwoCents has used that combo and it looks really great.

Currently im using distilled water. The whole loop takes ~750ml of fluid, i added 5ml of pure white vinegar each time ive flushed or rebuilt the loop, im also thinking of changing gpu backplate to a full nickel, and changing the fittings to red ones, with black tubing, and red fluid to give the pump/res some colour too.

Any recomendations on good fluid? That wont discolour and does not require too much maintenance and hopefully does not risk settling - i often go away for a few days at a time, and when i come back id rather not want to have to replace my pump (my first pump broke because of the fluid settling) so ive stayed with just distilled + vinegar to reduce risk of stuff damaging.

I'm going to rebuild the block tonight and fully clean it out as best i can, though i really prefer the style of the ek block over the others, i may end up getting that kiolance block.

I disassembled the block, found that the outsides of it are actually quite heavily corroded (it must have leaked slightly at some point maybe).
I swapped the baseplate for a nickel plated one from an old loop on a spare machine, which was almost perfectly clean. Decided im going to run a 5-10% vinegar solution for a couple days then flush it out as much as possible and recheck everything. Is it safe to leave the copper baseplate in a 100% vinegar solution overnight in an attempt to clean it off? I guess it's worth a try.
 
Also just noticed, that the very edges of where the cpu touches, there are slight marks as if the edge of the cpu has dug into the base of the block, perhaps the block wasnt making proper contact with the cpu? The nickel plated one had a slight bulge where this copper one seems to be slightly bent inwards. Anyhow... onto temps.

Temps are much lower :D
Still not magnificent though, higher than what ive seen from people running considerably higher clocks and volts.
I got curious and checked air temp coming out of the top of the PC, 36c :o

Oh no.  Don't use vinegar as a fluid solution with distilled.  Vinegar is used to clean the loop and than flush it immediately after if you had stains.  Vinegar is a strong acid that can eat at your metals and ruin it along with the o-rings or anything used to create a seal.  Distilled is the right fluid to use with a biocide to keep growth from happening.  A colored filled loop can and will eventually break down and can cause blockage or stain your gear.  Using colored fluid will require more maintenance, flushes and breakdowns every couple to a few months.  If you want color, use colored tubing and LEDs.  It is possible the contact to the CPU isn't sufficient enough, meaning the surface either on the copper block or the top of the CPU isn't evenly flat.

Im only using the vinegar to try clean things out, tbh i dont think 5ml in the whole 750ml~ that the loop contains had any effect, im going to run it through fairly quickly tomorrow to flush out anything left in the loop, is clear nanofluid any good? The non coloured stuff, not bothered about coloured fluids - staying away from them. As for colours i might go for red tubing, but im unsure, defo stay away from masterkleer tubing btw, ran distilled in that for 3 months, with biocide, and it internally decomposed and clogged up everything, hard time cleaning the blocks out :/

You probably had a bad case of plasticize.  If its the same equipment used, you still might have some of that stuff unless you've gone through it all.  Usually, in dire or annual tear downs, some usually use anywhere from 50/50 distilled and vinegar or 60/40 which I like to use just to be cautious so the acid doesn't chew something up. lol
 
The best tubing atm that is plasticizer free is PrimoChill's Advanced LRT at your choice of color.  I use bloodshed red and love it with of course installed LED ambient case lighting.

Im actually currently using the Advanced LRT black tubing atm :D

Since that tubing died i upgraded pretty much my entire loop, new rads and all, and moved the old cpu block/pumpres and rad to a second spare pc with a 3770K in it. Delidded that bad boy, runs at 65c at 4.6ghz 1.2v on a +ve offset with all c states enabled, unfortunately thats as far as the chip went, no amount of voltage would get it above 4.6 :( even disabling c states didnt help in that case either

The only known to me tubing which is in fact 100% trouble free is EK ZMT rubber tubing (no PVC inside, which cannot be said about Primochill's ALRT). Used it a lot and never run into any issues. 
 
For coolant go with alcohol based coolant. Like EK Ekoolant for example. Most important fact alcohol is biodegradable. Don't go nano-fluid or even worse pastel (most/all? of that stuff is toxic to environment - e.g. zinc oxide). Cleaning this crap for maintenance is full time job x5 (I can testify to that) and I'll recommend using pastel only to my enemies - have fun! ;D
 
Running currently (PETG) mentioned Ekoolant clear with yellow Mayems dye, no problems whatsoever - BTW coolant temp 26.2-.6C with ambient 20C. Soon I will replace coolant because I'm awaiting full cover block for Classy from Bitspower. Did extensive testing with Aquacomputer DP Ultra coolants (easier to obtain for me and you can get 5L cans for ease of storage&tests), was mixing it with EK in various ratios and Mayhems dyes. No issues. So that's about it on manufacturer disclaimers than you should only top off with same coolant. As long as base is the same there is no problem if you mix DP Ultra clear with Ekoolant clear or whatever.
 
With regard to vinegar. I moved past that. Using 99% isopropyl alcohol. Just fill to the brim. I have stacks of it, it's cheap (1L cost me about equivalent of 3$) while being 100% safe to rads (don't use it on PMMA vel acryl parts because it will burn it) which cannot be said about vinegar if ratio is wrong.

This is all I use:

Clear UV-reactive PVC tubing with 13mm (1/2in) internal diameter, 19mm (3/4in) external diameter. Bend radius is approximately 35mm (1.4in). Tubing is priced per foot, 30.5cm. If you purchase more than 1 foot, it will come in one uncut piece.
 
I like to see free flow with no air bubbles in the tubing and can light up the tubing with a UV Light.

My tubing is 13/10 tubing (1/2 - 3/8). I might just stick with the kit ive got now, once ive flushed it through ill see what its like. I put a light inside the black tubing and it looked pretty spotless.

Temps are down ~10c just after replacing the blocks baseplate. Satsified atm, if i have any further issues ill go ahead and try a different block.

Hi all, I have a few questions regarding my setup;
 
i7-5820K
X99 Micro 2

Full Watercooled: 240mm (40mm) + 360mm (25mm) radiators.
 
First Issue: CPU
CPU temps, I've a 5820K, and it's running at 4.0GHz, 40x100, at 1.075v adaptive.
Under stress it hits close to 70c, with a 240mm rad (40mm) and a 360mm rad (25mm), and noctua F12 fans at 80%. And I've reseated the block about 5 times in total.
Should temps be that high? At full load its pulling close to 180w according to HWiNFO64.
During gaming temps usually average 55c, GPU averages 45c (Titan X).
I saw someone saying they got their 5930K to 4.5 at 1.25v, for mine to clock that high i have to run 1.275v, but the problem is temperatures go through the roof, even 1.2v and 4.3ghz pushes it over 90c in stress testing.
 
Second Issue: RAM
This may or may not be related to the CPU or the Motherboard, however i recently bought a set of 3200MHz memory, to upgrade from the 2133 i was currently using, and loaded up the XMP profile, rebooted..... straight into a boot-loop at post code 67 - 6d on the LED display thing.
I tried manually setting the frequency, increased VCCSA to +0.4v and even higher, to no luck at all, i tried dropping down to 2666, still boot loop, again i tried 2666 but this time i increased timings to 17-17-17-38 and it booted, only to hang as the logo appeared, and any attempt to get into the bios failed. Reluctantly, i dropped it down to 2400Mhz, and finally it booted, furthermore, i was able to lower timings down to 12-12-12-28 and im perfectly stable, passed 12 hours of prime95 blend with no errors. I could probably try even lower timings but i have not bothered.
Is there a reason i cannot run my memory higher than 2400? CPU or motherboard? I dont really understand it.

#1 Something is up with your cooling system.

Thats realbench, try p95v287 on small ffts, it will be much hotter. Unfortunately i need to use it to test stability for encoding as that uses avx2/fma3 and anything i get stable on other stress tests runs much cooler and doesnt ensure full stability during encoding, it crashes frequently at 1.25v 4.4GHz, while fully stable in p95v266, and at 4.6ghz, it overheats and throttles, and usually crashes if i leave it any longer. Trying either of those clocks in p95v287 and 1.25v at 4.4 is unstable and very hot (in the 95s - my cpu is set to not throttle until 100c though) and 1.35v at 4.6 just outright resets the system after the fans go balistic for a second. Appearing to me it overheats and shuts off completely.

There is your problem. You shouldn't be running prime95 v28.5 or above as it causes haswell chips to draw too much power.  I can run the H.264 video encoding benchmark under realbench just fine without any issues at my current clocks.

When encoding i get pretty much the same temps as when in p95v287, only about 5c less. I've tried overclocking while encoding a video to test for stability, unfortunately this isnt entirely reliable, as it takes longer for things to crash since it doesnt have all the error checking and stuff, and having thought id got a stable clock, i checked the output video out of curiosity and it would only play the first couple minutes and the player would hang, i tried a different player which reported the file was corrupted at the same point. I ran p95v287 and shortly after it crashed. So pretty much i need to use p95v287 as a stability test. Sometimes encodes take over 12h depending on how long the input video is and what settings are used - i often get given videos from my friends that they want encoding to x bitrate and x format for various uses, since none of my friends have as high-end rig as me - and they pay me for it :D
 
Since swapping the baseplate though temps are now in the mid-high 60s which is much more comfortable than mid 70s, and the fans run at 65% instead of 80% meaning its a lot quieter. Think i'm happy with 4.0GHz though, it's equal to a 6.0GHz 4790K in multi threaded work like encoding. Higher clocks don't really make much difference and the benefits are further diminished by the increased noise and power draw.
 
What is the best CPU block for X99 cpus though? I read the Koolance 380 is pretty good, though i might go for the EK Supremacy EVO X99, and see how much the correct insert and jetplates actually effect things. Hmm

Ok, new issue.
 
When the system is cold, i.e, cold. Not just a cold boot. But whenever the system is cold, i cannot run 2666 mhz at all, it simply just boot loops. Yet if I boot up at 2400C12, run a few things to heat it all up. Turn off and on again back into bios, i can run 2666C14.
That said, if i bench it. Bandwidth actually decreases. And if i stick the fans on full blast and let the system idle for a few mins, loading anything will crash the system as the board has cooled down again. But if i keep the system warm i can run things indefinitely long without issue.
I'm going to stick with 2400C12 since ive had no issues with that at all, but it is incredibly strange to me how the system is unable to boot 2666 when cool.

I work better after being awake & active for a few hours too. 
 
Your chip just has a weak integrated memory controller. Are you able to reproduce the issue over and over again without any inconsistencies?

I'm going to stick with 2400C12 since ive had no issues with that at all, but it is incredibly strange to me how the system is unable to boot 2666 when cool.

Your chip just has a weak integrated memory controller. Are you able to reproduce the issue over and over again without any inconsistencies?




It's consistently inconsistent. When the system is heated up, mostly it will run fine at 2666C14, other time it just boot loops then continues like nothing happened. From cold it just boot loops, very occasionally it will get as far as the bios screen then hang.
 
When still on, if i crank the fans up to max while the system is idle, this cools everything down to pretty much cold boot temps, and then attempting to open anything will crash the system and it'll go back to boot loops.
 
The bios codes it locks up on is 67-6d, then cycles back round. When it's on 6d it looks like the little led display thing kind of bugs out (the unlit segements flicker slightly) then it just loops.

Being on the edge of stability can cause things to work at one moment and not work at the next. Like I said your cpu integrated memory controller is just weak.

Mhm, this CPU is an absolute pain in the bum, runs pretty hot and crap IMC, I did get it for £230 on ebay, they generally go for £270 and above, and are over £320 new in retail, so i'll take the compromise for a cheap CPU. Reason i went for the 5820K anyway was just to get by until Broadwell-E, and it looks like the 6900K will be 8c/16t @ 3.2/3.7ghz. So i'm hoping those chips have the good kind of memory controllers like what Skylake chips have, that can easily run 3200 and above. Wanna get my 32gigs of ram jacked up to its rated settings :D

I've had the chip since before skylake came out. There were very few high frequency dimms available at the time. My 16gig 2133C13 kit was actually mroe expensive than my current32gig 3200C16 kit is now!

Well it's not surprise really considering that even before Skylake and Z170 chipset hit the market price of DDR4 DIMMs went down by about 50% when compared to prices at the beginning of the X99 launch when 16 GB pack of DIMMs was as (or more) expensive as 5930 and 64+ kits were more expensive than 5960 and a board combined. In the next 12 months DDR4 will cost about as much as bag of chips. ;)
