I guess they don't last forever
Is this anything you personally have experienced or just rot from internet. Time frame? Only experience I have observed is from leaving them out in sunlight or getting doused with chemicals. My problems have been mostly from scratches and those can be sanded out with a professional sander @ most movie rentals.

Or they were made from crappy materials. One time bought a large spindle of DVDRs and they were made of some kind of crappy plastic that I could tell weren't going to last long.....

Pressed CDs last quite a while. The ones you buy that you can burn dont last at all. With the exception of say verbatim disks none of them were advertised to last any significant time frame. Thats why m-disks are a thing.
It is frustrating to watch people archive their crap on CD and think it will still be there 10 years down the road.

probably no more then 5 years on average over cheaper CDs/DVDs

I bought alot of cds made by HP they hardly ever fail and seem to be in good shape today. Many are 9yrs old. Maxell is the dvds I purchase and seem to burn correctly.

I wouldnt be surprised if one of the forums members had a nice collection!
I remember installing my first CDROM, back when most peoples computers didnt even have a soundcards or modems. 14K to 56K, dosent seem that far back dose it?

Few weeks ago I was installing Windows 95 onto VM using original CD I bought in 1996... Still works flawless but, yeah... that's a pressed CD.
