If the system is on carpet have the fan facing up, if it's on a hard surface it doesn't matter which orientation you use.

I would have the fan up to help with drawing heat out of case.

The fan being up is best. The holes in the bottom of the case allow for air flow over the components. It will exhaust hot air from the PSU into the case, but if you have good air flow, it should be not a big deal. The big deal is having the fresh cooler air being pulled across your PSU components.

He can mount it down, it will suck air through its fan and out the back of the grated side of the psu, which will be facing the outside where the power plug and switch are. The semi-mod/wire side is closed. Although, flipping psus upside down like that makes it so they don't line up with the mount holes on the case sometimes, so watch for that. Id say go down if you can get high enough legs mounted on it to pull enough air. That way the psu is pretty much isolated from the rest of the rig with its own air. If the case will be on a table the stock feet may be tall enough but ive had a few older centurions and they were pretty low so I wouldn't face it down myself with those.

You don't want it facing down pulling air from under the case with the case sitting on a carpet with the tiny stock feet. Facing it up inside the case will make it use the hotter air inside the case to cool the psu, not a great scenario either really, but its better than suffocating the psu facing it down on a carpet. If you can get the case on a table, or put a board or something else under the case so the carpet isn't taking up the air space between the case and floor, then you can face it down. Or replace the stock case feet with taller feet or lian li type wheels, casters etc... if your going to park it on carpet. Your psu is the determining factor on how well your rig will run. If it overheats and starts running like junk, the rest of your components will show that too. Not to mention all the fibers and hair and just crap youll be sucking into it that will ruin who knows what when.

Fan on bottom. The air flow goes into the PSU then out the back. If the fan is on top, it creates a suction effect that will hold the air in the case keeping it more still. This still air becomes hotter over time. In from the lower half of the PC, Out from the upper half of the PC. CoolerMaster Diagram on my 690 case. Edit: To OP, the manual clearly states on page 4 to put the fan on the bottom. Plus, the PSU should not be sealed to the bottom of the case. There should be enough air flow pulling from the bottom of the case if it is needed.

There is enough room under the case to provide air to PSU? I need to add some material between the carpet and the bottom of the case for improve room for airflow to the fan in my psu? ( like sheet of cardboard, a piece of wood, or book ) I must raise the case up a couple inches and put something under it? Or not? What you think about that? Or just leave like it is?

Yes, the clearance that the stock feet give you is enough room for a airflow gap so you can mount the psu with its fan facing down. You do have the feet on it right? Do not put it on the rug with the psu mounted facing down, unless you put a board, rubber mat, thick flattened piece of cardboard etc.... under the case. If you can raise the case about 6 inches off the ground then you could also face the psu fan down, but youd have to make sure that whatever your using to raise it that high is sturdy. The last thing you want is the whole rig falling over because , for example, its wobbling on a bunch of books on a carpet.

litwiki22, Just grab a piece of cardboard and trim it to fit your case bottom and slip it under (the case) it. Then you will see what it looks like. But I would not use cardboard unless it was supported so as to keep it from warping/bending and possibly reducing the working area between the case mounts and the cardboard. Personally, I would figure out a way to elevate it off the carpet so as to reduce dust issues. Example would be a thick board on a couple of well positioned blocks and the computer case setting on top of the board. It may not look good but it accomplishes the task. Again, that is an example and it will be dependent on your room situation. I have a CM Cosmos 2 case and it has rails that elevate it off the surface that it sits on by about 1.5 inches. The PSU is located on the bottom of the case with the fan facing downward pulling in cool air from the bottom. I did not want the case to sit on the carpet due to dust issues so I bought a Lazy Susan and mounted that on top of a stand that I was using for my printer and set the case on top of it. This also allows me to have access to both swinging side panels and back cables by rotating the Lazy Susan which also makes cleaning and routine maintenance a breeze.

As I stated in my previous post you run the risk of unsupported cardboard (by itself) warping or bending from your case weight and this could cause issues with the working area around the PSU intake by decreasing the space between the case and cardboard.

+1 for Air Cooled Rigs. I started to put the Fan Up or inside the case an place a screen over the fan. I use Silverstone Tek 140mm Ultra Fine Fan Filter with Magnet Cooling FF143B (Black) this allows me to keep it clean and from small items falling into the PSU. It is Magnetic so I place over the fan vent and remove it to clean it, it will work on most PSU and top or bottom of case because it is Magnetic.

Yes, that would be much better than resting on the carpet. If you can, I would suggest that you make the wood a little larger than the case. I don't know the area that you plan to set your case but if you do not have the room to open the sides of the case for service, you could attach some sort of handle to the front of the wood to assist you in sliding the wood and case out so as to gain access to your side panels.

Last question. Because i am little afraid. Is here enough room for airflow to the fan in my psu? There is enough room under the case to provide air to PSU? The clearance that the stock feet give me is enough room for a airflow gap? I think is less that 1 centimeter. So its enough or not? Is it safe then to mount PSU with the fan facing down on that case? Or i must buy just the new case? Please take a look:

Don't be afraid. If you place a board under your case that resembles the thickness that is displayed in your pics and is a little wider and longer than your case, you'll be fine. Now to your questions in the order that you asked: 1) Yes that is enough room for airflow. 2) Yes there is adequate room under the case for airflow. You are drawing it from all 4 sides. 3) Yes the stock feet should not interfere with airflow unless it gets blocked somehow. 4) Yes it is enough. See answer #2 5) Your owner's manual as LJennings pointed out directs you to do just that, place it fan down. If you place the board under the case and not rest the case on the carpet directly, than it would be safe. Remember that you must keep it clean. Regarding your buying a new case. That is up to you. You should also consider that, as you indicated, you want to add a 980 ACX card. That will add a lot of hot air into your case. If your internal fans are not up to the task of removing that heat it will cause your system to run warmer.

This thread caught my attention because four years ago I built a new system using the Antec "Nine-Hundred-Two" case, and the PSU location was on the bottom. I also wondered how to install the PSU, because the 902 did not have any holes for ventilation beneath the location for the PSU, so I decided to mount my PSU upside down because I felt the area under the PSU didn't allow enough air flow, and having the fan on top would at least not restrict the air flow. I did think about drilling holes or cutting out a portion of my case, but decided to just mount the PSU upside down and see how that worked. Four year later it's still working fine. I have my 902 on a solid surface, elevated from the floor by about 5". The photo below is about four years old and I've since upgraded my GPU to a 570, and I'm hoping to upgrade again to a 970, and really have no plans at the moment to upgrade anything else...but I'm watching.

You have displayed serious concerns about safety for your system as you have indicated through your questions. My question to you is: Do YOU feel your system will be SAFE by setting it on cardboard? A piece of wood cannot be that expensive.
