Looking for input on a new PC case. The GPU thermals on my current setup aren't great due to the shallow height above the GPU's. For reference, the PCIE power cables touch the lid. The bulk of the exhaust from the bottom GPU recirculates into the top GPU.

Due to housing changes, I need to temporarily ditch the rackmount case for a traditional case. Recirculating SLI exhaust is a big concern. The top GPU throttles hard. I want to avoid that as much as possible in the new case. When I purchased the FTW3's I didn't realize how massive they were and also didn't know blower card thermals outperform open air cards in SLI.

Here is my component list:
  • CPU: Ryzen 1800X
  • MOBO: Gigabyte GA-AX370-Gaming K7
  • SSD: Intel 730 2.5" 480GB
  • HSF: CRYORIG H7 w/Noctua 120mm 2k PWM
  • GPU: 2x EVGA 1080ti ftw3
  • PSU: Corsair AX1600i
  • FANS: 3x Noctua 140mm 2k PWM
  • CASE: Norco RPC-470 4U rackmount
The best airflow optimized cases I've found are:
  • Cooler Master H500M
  • Cooler Master SL600M
  • Lian-li PC 011 Dynamic (or air)
  • SilverStone RL06WS-PRO
Open to suggestions. Would be great if i could re-use the 140mm Noctua's but not a deal breaker.

I think part of the question should be any color, material or size you are after? A lot of full towers offer very nice cooling options but you sometimes run into people who want a case that has a feature like tempered glass or would prefer a white case and things like that. It's really got a lot of personal touches that I am not sure anyone else can really decide for you and really the brands you have listed are all quality.

Yes the trick with any ACX type coolers is to get the heat out of the case before it is recirculated back into the GPU cooler

Look at Thermaltake cases also, several larger nice cases W100 & W200

Thermaltake Core X9 mounts the GPU upright, but one side is solid "plastic window" -- not an issue for me as I'm going to water cool my cards

My build is currently black and white theme. Here's a photo to see what your working with.

Aesthetically i prefer cleaner looking cases. The Lian-LI 011 Dynamic in white jives with my color theme. This reddit post closely resembles what my build would look like. I have reservations about the GPU airflow due to the shallow height above GPU's. The PSU/cabling won't be out on display much which is another detractor.

The W200 & X9 are some massive cases. Way too big for my current needs. That's partly why I'm in the market for a case, i don't have room for the rack-mount cabinet at the moment. Need something smaller like the W100. I'll read up on that one.

Did you happen to note the thermals on the stock air cooled RTX's when you were stressing them? I'm curious how much hotter the top GPU was than the bottom in the open air setup.

Best Case, it works, worst case, it doesn't

Sorry, that was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the title

Running a double (not SLI!) setup of 2x1080ti FTW3 myself and was asking this question myself.
Priority for me was to have it as quiet as possible while beiing cool also.

Bought, after quiet some research, a Dark Base 900 and absolutely LOVE it. Its quiet AND cool. Also there is plenty of space when tweaking.
If you buy it, do yourself a favor and also buy one or two Silent Wings 3 (140mm) for the top of the case. But you can also use your Noctuas there!

First i had the graphic cards working in a normal MidiCase- temperatures and noise were both horrible! Then i used it open air without a case. Temperatures were better, but noise and dust was a big problem. With the Dark Base 900 its quiet and cool (comparable with open air). If i open the case it gets louder and hotter.

Yeah, its BIG, but the best you can get. Temperature difference between top and bottom card is about 2-3 degrees celsius for me. thats at FULL LOAD at Powertarget 55%, Fan speed 30%.
