I loved Witcher 3, it's my favorite open world RPG I've ever played.
Couldnt agree more! Witcher 3 was extremely immersive aswell. I could play the game for hours and hours - pretty much losing the track of the time as I was exploring the so called "digital" world.

Honestly, there's quite a few that deserve a mention here, but some are kind of unclear on whether they're RPGs (or they're MMOs). As for my personal favorite strictly in the area, I'm genuinely unsure. I did like Witcher 3, but strangely it didn't stick with me that much, nor do I anticipate replaying it. Then again, few open world games do really make me feel like replaying them. Ocarina of Time maybe, just for how much I replayed it?

The only ones I have played recently are BOTW and NieR Automata. BOTW is the better of the two in terms of open worldness

I would not consider Mass Effect to be "open world", as it is pretty linear. I do agree it would make my top RPGs

BOTW is pretty amazing, Kenshi is also good although it takes some getting used to.
Last.FM used to be a lot better.

I enjoyed State of Decay 2 for a while, even though its repetitiveness really ruined it inevitably. I enjoyed Outer Worlds when it released, but it ended up feeling a lot like Borderlands, so it wasn't unique. This might be an unpopular opinion, but I did enjoy Fallout 4 a lot, bearing in mind, its the only Fallout game I've ever played. Despite all that however, my all time favorite as of this moment, however, would definitely go to Middle Earth Shadow of War, the franchise in general to be honest. In total I had close to 300 hours playing that and for me that was pretty significant for me considering I don't usually dedicate that much time to many games.

I don't think Skyrim is even the best open world game in its own series, I think most people old enough to remember consider Morrowind a better game, me personally I have a soft spot for Oblivion. I really loved the world and lore of Assassin's Creed Odyssey as well.
