Failure to obtain high end gaming GPUs has no doubt affected gaming. I credit game developers who try and make games work with older GPUs and lower end GPUs. Many gamers who gave up trying to obtain a high end GPU bought gaming laptops or purchased mid-level GPUs, or purchased a high end GPU at the scalpers price.

I'm tired of having to have a Steam account...and then a rockstar games account....to play GTA V (and this applies to many other games too....)...

If I'm required to have more than a single account, I'm not buying it/playing it. I've missed a LOT of games because of that..

    so yeah, disgruntled. That's mild.

And before you say "that's the way it is"..not really. YOU allow it by doing it. If everyone said "no", they wouldn't do it.

I don't mind steam, but I agree having to have two different accounts sucks. Then most of those games have their own DRM as well

Buy from GOG, no DRM and many games can be played on older PC's.

I have the same problem. WFH and gaming while sitting in the same chair looking at the same monitors doesn't make either fun or enjoyable. It sucks. Also the GPU shortage doesn't help at all.

I didn't even think about the multiple stores/accounts issue. I can understand my console friends a bit more now. They just need one account and they're good to go. Makes since now why I've been enjoying my retro consoles the most.

I mean yeah having to deal with multiple different accounts is kind of cumbersome but in my opinion I am fine with that discomfort of having to open multiple different platforms(Steam, Origin, Rockstar, etc..) if that means I can have access to a plethora of games at amazing prices (Most of the time) . For example never cared for Epic games but I get on it for the free games they offer periodically.(Entire Batman series, Dark souls)

I think as a consumer it sucks having to got to several different stores to get my games but on the same not because we go to different stores we have more options for pricing and it causes platforms to remain competitive(for the most part). This also give game devs more options to get there product to the masses without having to deal with a a single outlet and having to follow all their rules just to be on the platform (Microsoft,Sony) with credit tha you don't see to many horror stories with console stores but you see it a lot in the mobile ecosystem.

Well one could try practicing abstinence for 3-4 months - then when you get back to gaming you'll appreciate it more + you can do a lot during these months to earn a new PC ;)

I already don't play video games every day. The original point of this post is that even when I do play, I feel like there is a diminishing pool of good quality games to spend my time on. It used to be that there were great games I just never because there was such a boon of quality games. It's almost like the mainstream video game pool is being flooded with practices from the mobile market that create overall horrible experiences.

These past two years have really put me off of video games. They used to be an escape, but now it just feels like work. Games are buggy or hardware is impossible to find. And having to work from home and be on the computer all day doesn't help when it's time to relax. I don't have a separate working space so trying to play a video game just feels like I'm still at work. I've had more fun dusting off my old consoles like N64 and playing those games. I've actually bought more N64 games this year than I have any modern games.

Games shouldn't feel like work.  Maybe try different genres?

I recall back to the WoW era when I was always doing quests and chasing a carrot.  Those games bait you in and eventually it wears on you.  I think many of us have come to that conclusion.  And it is not just WoW, but many games where it is a constant rat race to unlock this or that, or "grinding".  That just takes the fun away.

    YES...

Multiple high end developers laying big fat eggs, over the last few years

Micro transactions becoming popular over the last few years (other trash business practices)

    GPU availability issues

CPU parts in general being delayed or unavailable

**The last few years have been horrible. The golden age of gaming seemed to be the early 2000's up until about 5yrs ago. I'll be honest though, I haven't gamed at all in the last 3 weeks, and prior to that maybe a few times a week for 1hr or so. Frustrated with the quality of games, and everything about hardware at the moment.

Yeah, biggest problem is the scalping on video cards right now. Ever want to goto a concert and you want to buy tickets but they are all sold out. Only choice is buy off a scapler. It has invaded all high demand products now.

I think the biggest challenges to gaming is developers having worked from home and the shutdowns that happened during development and the lack of graphics cards are hurting new games. As for buggy games it’s not really an issue if you get older titles. It’s one if the reasons I often times wait until DLC is available. That and I like to be able to play the game and DLC at the same time.

I also totally understand not wanting to game we’re you work but that is not really the games fault.

The issue with gaming today is that it is seen as a profit making venture rather than a commodity, when of quality and substance, can be a financial success. Microtransactions, DLC, and fragmenting features.

Yes, it's why the new XBOX is the best choice. You get a stupid black box that just works. You turn it on and it just works, any other bug that is game related isn't that big of a deal and is fixed right away.

I don’t mind DLC since if I liked the game and want more of it I can buy it but I am not forced into it. Unless the game didn’t tell a whole story and then that would be upsetting.

I remember how before games went digital we had expansion packs and I used to enjoy those a lot for games like Mechwarrior 2 and Warcraft 2. So I don’t really view DLC as a new thing.

You're missing my point. Once upon a time, expansions were sequels and standalone units. These days, from the get-go companies are cutting completed content they've already conceptualized for the sole purpose of preestablishing DLC and microtransactions. Company assets, that in past days would be directly applied to improving the overall quality of a title, are being dedicated to those additional products. There is a team or a set of individuals whose role is to identify what can be cut for a future profit making venture, instead of enriching the core game. Ultimately, the core product suffers. It may feel polished, but that is because the company also dedicates assets to making it look seamless without the content that would have naturally made it so.

I have gotten to an age I'm very picky with my purchases, knowing what most studios do since I worked in that industry before my retirement. Bugs aside have a checklist. Its also why I tend to go overkill still these days on hardware resources, big one being RAM, those memory leaks like to poke their heads, and game engines especially with all the new tech do crazy strange things if you are hitting any computational/resource limits.
How complete is the game is it even really finished or in a close to finished playable state?
Is there any bad code that is taxing my hardware to the point it may kill it?
    How is the story?
    Character Development?
    Gameplay?
How stable is it, like is it going to crash every five seconds or is it going to give me hours of gameplay before it has an issue?
Is it worth X amount of my money to put forth and buy said game with asking the questions above?

My issues have largely been with AAA games. I've mostly been playing indie games on PC, whereas in the past it's a segment of games that I didn't pay attention too. Yes, the games can sometimes be very buggy, but I find myself having more "fun", because the game doesn't try to suck your time in with battlepasses and daily quests, etc.
