I went on newegg last night around 12-1 EST and there was no 8700k listed. I went on this morning around 5:30-6 and they were listed but on back order. I ordered one but it's saying 15-20 days. Was anyone actually able to get one if it was ever in stock?

think it was a soft release, all the people are saying the same thing, back ordered as soon as they went up

Someone at newegg messed up and released it for purchase on Wednesday morning, so when thursday morning rolled around there was no more to put up for sale.
I had talked to Newegg rep wednesday afternoon, and they said they only had 20 more chips showing up on the 5th for release day.
I backordered mine at 4:04am thursday morning. I think they put up the backorder at 4am.

When i called Wednesday, after they messed up and released what they had, they said they only had 20 more coming in for thursday.
I did'nt talk to them after Thursday, so i didn't get a chance to inquire about further shipments.
 

Got my back order on October 5th, around 07:30am (Brazilian time, GMT -03).

So far, so good.

Not for the moment.

If the back order goes ok, I'm assuming I will see some movement only between oct. 20th / 27th.

The main problem is that Intel can't seem to make enough. Supplies seem to be weak probably for the next few weeks leading up to the holiday shopping season.

I wish... dunno though if it's worth getting 8700k for 4K gaming as I already have 7600k @ 5GHz 1.344v and it's very cool, <60C undelidded with Noctua NH-D14 with a very quiet fan profile (<800rpm).

That 7600K is running great, anf 4k is less CPU demanding, and more GPU hungry.
I would say not to lose money jump from one generation to another.

I will be jumping from 3rd gen to the 8th. So I'm expecting to have twice improvement in most tasks and gaming.

Yeah as for gaming, currently only with a high refresh rate monitor you would benefit from HT/more cores.
 
The upgrade becomes relevant at latest when 4K 120Hz OLED displays arrive :)

There is a rumor that low yields is causing insufficient supply, but I can find no truth to that rumor.

Nothing new on my back order.

Hells yea, glad to see there is some movement out there. I thought it was going to be locked up until a bit closer to the holiday season....

Update I just got the email yesterday from newegg they charged me for the 8700k. Says online it's supposed to ship today! So everything sounds like they're moving along with them finally.

Got my order charged as well
Let's see if it ships today.
Otherwise, tomorrow only.
But here we are. With the 8700k coming soon.
