I purchased two of the evga 970 SSC ACX 2.0 cards and am not happy with the noise and I am returning them to newegg. I see evga also has the regular closed blower style cooler model( 04G-P4-1972-KR) available and these are actually available at the moment over on newegg. I know its not a reference style cooler as from what I gather nividia didnt make a reference cooler for the GTX 970, but is this card any good or should I stay away? All my other video cards have always been the closed blower design and they have all for sure been quieter than the 2 ACX cards I just tried out. My case is on the smaller side and air flow is not the greatest(it serves as an HTPC as well and is in a HTPC style case) so I'm thinking the blower style cooler might be better as well. Anybody have experience with this card?

    Dear maintainin,

I am very sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the noise being caused by the cooler. I can confirm that we have released a statement on this to try and assist further.

I can also confirm that if your case does not have good airflow then it is usually recommended to use the Blower Style cooler.

maintaininfrom what I gather nividia didnt make a reference cooler for the GTX 970

It's actually the NVTTM cooler, same as the GTX980, but you'll likely not see it due to cost.  Acccording to Tom's Hardware, "there is no sign of a reference GTX 970 being sold. The reason for that is likely that the NVTTM cooler from Nvidia is more expensive to implement than the partner’s custom coolers, and at a $329.99 price point it simply doesn’t make sense to use."

    Same effective outcome, though.
