All right, so ive been thinking about how I am going to do this, this time around. I just purchased a new subwoofer and amp for my car. I would like to avoid my sub not getting stolen this time around or atleast make it so I can find out where it went if it was stolen.

Does anyone know of something I could install in my sub box or amp that would allow me to find them with a GPS? Like something that would emit its locaton to me so if it is stolen, that I can locate and report to the local authorities.

Stick one of these in the box, but the battery only last 5 days.

Hmm... Interesting, thanks for the reply.

Wish I could find one that would be able to keep power by wiring it to the amp or something.

They are not visible from the windows. All wires are hidden aswell, so looking into the car you wouldn't know.

Do not have a car alarm and after what just happend to my buddys Blazer, i'm not really wanting one. They ripped open the hood by breaking the latch and ripped off the battery terminals to make sure it would not go off...

Yeah, I thought about making my trunk smaller by putting the sub in the back of the trunk against the back of the seats and make a wall between the sub and the front of the trunk so if you opened up the trunk you wouldn't see anything. I'd love a fiberglass box, but that cost almost as much as I spent on the entire system.

Seems like you live in a high crime rate area... unfortunately there's not much you can do to prevent theft in that case. Unless you're willing to spend some bucks on security systems? Cameras? Where do you park your car at night, during the day etc?

Well, my friend with the Blazer does live in a high crime rate area. I'm not really sure about my area, but have never had an issue untill this year in July. My sub was stolen over night while I was up and had a few friends in and out of the house that night. Not sure how it was pulled off without anyone seeing it.

The idea with the GPS seemed like the best idea for me to be able to recover the sub and amp if it has been stolen.

My best advice!  Only bump on the open roads.  Never bump in parking lots, your apartment complex, or residential neighborhoods.  I have had competition systems in cars with no security systems, and never even had an attempt to steal my stuff.  The reason is because no one knew it was there.  Also, if you have a garage, park in it.

I currently have a Viper alarm installed with a proximity alarm, and I park less than 20ft from my bedroom, so if anything happens, I'll hear it right away.

If a fiberglass box costs as much as your setup, I'm going to assume you didn't spend too terribly much money for your total setup (taking a guess at about $500-$1000?). Is this system really worth paying for an expensive GPS or alarm system that you may never use?

In my opinion your best bet here is not by buying a product for this. I mean yes, I have seen some nice security systems with  6 seperately wired 150db sirens inside the car underneath the interior run on backup batteries inside the car, but that was to protect a car with a $10,000+ system. Instead, I'd say a little bit of common sense here can go along way. Don't mount your amp in your back window, don't put stickers in your window like "Alpine" or "JL", don't park in areas with a high crime rate if you can help it (and if you do have to park there, don't bump within 4 blocks of that parking spot), don't brag about them to anyone your might not trust, put the subs in your trunk and not your back seat, be sure to screw them down (so if anyone actually does get in it'll take them that much longer to gets subs/box out of your car). The only thing I actually would recommend paying for would be some dark tint (5-35%) so no one can actually see in your car. Even when professionally done, this shouldn't cost more than $300 for 5 windows.

Also check with your insurance company and see what there policy is on theft. Some won't cover your system and some only will if it's part of the vehicle (bolted down). If it is covered by insurance, be sure to have pictures/video of the system and copies of receipts in case anything were to happen.

Another idea on the cheap: wire in a little red LED on your dash that blinks every so often. Someone looks in and sees that and they think you have a big fancy security system while you really only have a $5 circuit wired to a LED. Edit: Oh hey, look what I found.

Yeah... Looks like i'm just going to have to be more aware of people in my area that might be looking to take my equipment. Spent roughly $380 for the sub/amp/box. Nothing crazy, my car is worth MAYBE $1500, so buying anything really expensive like a car alarm is really not in my best intrest. With the GPS costing almost half of what I spent on the system, so I guess i'll have to toss that idea.

I suppose I might try out that LED idea and just have a fake car alarm. But then again, it could actually cause more attention to my car because it's kind of a beater and people would wonder why I have one.

Buy some C4, connect it with some trip wire. If they pull it out, boom. For insurance if they see the trip wire, you can add a weight sensor under the sub. If the weight is decreased, instant detonation. I recommend about 10 pounds of C4 for maximum justice.

Except the both sensors could easily be set off by hitting bumps. A fix for this would be to use an RFID tag inside of the sub box that sends a signal to the C4 detonator once it goes out of range of the partner RFID tag in the car. By using this method, you can also save your car when the explosion happens

LOL well then if I had some super expensive high end 15s or 18s wouldn't it suck to get it stolen then? I'd rather not blow up my subs so I can have a chance of the cops recovering it later (if they cared... pigs...) xD

Stick one of these in the box, but the battery only last 5 days.

    Bunch more here

I think those have to be connected to a computer to download where they have BEEN (they record so if its stolen you still wont know).  Be sure and check but for a live tracker they cost allot more and may have restrictions to law enforcement.  hope you find a good way to secure it though.

    This is what you need!!!

You could hang up a fake camera on the corner of your house point at your car to make it look like you security camera watching it. Just don't tell your friends that its fake.

The best option would be to bolt the sub down so it takes 30-45mins for anyone to steal it.
You could rig up a pull pin alarm to the sub, so if its moved too far the pin gets pulled and have it rigged up to a loud alarm you can hear from inside the house.

I'm surprised this industry hasn't done something like this yet.
What mfg's need to do is adopt RFID chips in car stereos and amps,  unique id so no way to identify when its randomly scanned (so that can't be abused). the mfg would have a database linking each serial number to the unique id in the RFID Chip. Then all people would have to do is contact them and have it flagged. (figure out how to make the car boost the signal lol)

I bet cops wouldn't mind having a device that will pick up the RFID chips and see's if its been flag when they check license plates or when following a vehicle.

Walmart and other stores use RFID to help keep track of inventory, the scanners detect items 20-30 feet away. One day we can use the same technology to check to see what were out of at home while at the grocery store lol.
