isnt it cheaper to buy the card with a water block on it already or buy a reference card and add a water block?

It usually costs very close to the same thing, without waiting a couple of extra months.

I like helping as much as I can, I like talking to everyone, and i am trying to keep up, lol. Im taking a break at this point.

Quick comparison though, before price adjustments and such start occuring.

1080 ftw card =$649 by itself.
Ekwb for ftw = $139 by itself.

Total=788 + shipping

1080 hydrocopper, same clocks, and all = $779

Tota 779 + shipping

Reference board 1080 = 629 take note that it's only a $20 difference here.

Ekwb reference 1080 waterblock =$113.99 also about $20 cheaper.

Total = $743 + shipping, but you dont have to wait for the custom pcb to be released, and then you dont have to wait for the custom waterblock to be released.

I was scared the first time.. basically, you are changing the thermal paste and thermal pads is what it comes down to in the end. This sounds like an oversimplification, but it isn't. Ekwb creates the blocks to be easy fit, and to where the instructions are so well laid out, that it is hard to mess it up.

The biggest risk i have encountered is my own clumsiness.

Ordering the pump, radiators and fittings can be stressful, but you have some amazing people that would love to help you along the way. Its expensive the first time you order, after that, it is really easy.

so the 1080 water block will probably not work on the 1080 ti. aka no chance of ordering water blocks before the 1080 ti comes out?

I think I remember you helping me a couple years back on my x58 build or possibly right when I put my x99 together hahaha.

The 1080ti is the same layout as the titan x pascal.

Basically waterboocks are right here 1080ti reference blocks

Re: Announcing NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 1080 Ti 2017/03/02 13:21:08 (permalink)
I see that there are some posts that address the topic, but just wanted some clarification. Pretty new to all this, bought a 1080 FTW about 2.5 months ago. Up until now, didn't even realize that EVGA had something like a step-up program. Would like to get the 1080TI if I can. What I'm wondering is, how long on average does it take for the custom cards to come out afterwards? It looks like, at least from the standpoint of the reference founders edition 1080 compared to the FTW, the FTW has higher base/boost clocks. Is that something that would be applicable to the TI as well? Basically, the custom cards are better?

I like the LED's and all that, but that's a bonus, higher clocks are what matter. Planning on setting up a custom loop, actually just bought ekwb blocks for the FTW. Obviously not going to work if for me if I get the TI, but since they stated the Titan X block would work as well, that's what I would spring for, again if I got a reference TI. But that's only if it's not going to be inferior to custom cards in a few months.

Someone school me here, If my EVGA Sc2 Icx is 1708 and 1804 clock speeds what are the clocks on the 1080ti founders card? As this is my only option as I have read to step up if and when they have it as a option

They will be the nvidia reference clocks. 1582 boost clock.

So is it worth upgrading if my card can boost higher or what am I missing. (Rookie sorry)

The 1090 is a ccompletrly different core, so clocks wont matter at all. The 1080ti has a much better gpu core and more memory. The upgrade is 100% up to you if you want to do it. I think it is going to be a good upgrade for those that want it. It isnt a requirement though.

I just received my GTX 1080 FTW2 last night....And after reading the legitimate specs on the Ti....I am upset that I didn't wait (because I bought it in haste after selling my 980 FTWs on a spur of the moment to a colleague at work)...And the Ti specs do look impressive and I'd imagine they would be an improvement even over the FTW2-. I know the estimated percentage is around 25 to 30 (according to ASUS, which I think is garbage anyhow) but even with all the fancy stuff what I really want to know is....For the money that I would spend to order it or buy it up here in The Great White North (that's minimum 1285- based on cost calculations of the FTW2 which I just rec'd last night via UPS and had to pay Duty and Tax, plus US to CAD conversion)....Is the performance gain really worth the money for the Ti over my new FTW2?   And what exactly does the performance look like in the real world? (not just graphs, benchmarks, data spreadsheets)....But tangible evidence?  Because the Ti is still at least another 5 to 700 more than the FTW2 when all is said and done.    But even if the performance made this Ti "the card to have for the next half century"...The price would be prohibitive for me.  So I'm going to be quite happy with my new FTW2 and run this new system for as long as I possibly can.

OMG I cant believe with how this is awesome for VR and they still put 1 HDMI port on it ? What is wrong with NVIDIA , 3 Display Ports? Ask yourself how many firkin people use 3 display ports, my guess less than 20%

Highly unlikely you will see them change up the post layout. I can see them telling people to use a Dp to HDMI adapter.

still going to wait for the 2 or 3 fan version and a 1080 TI classified.  MY 1080 GTX FTW is waiting for the icx version ok and using my 980 TI classified for now.  my 980 gets the same fps as my 1080, but the 1080 draws scenery in much faster.  from reviews, the new titan with 1 blower fan reaches max temp really fast and then throttles down.  so will wait for the 2 or 3 fan version.  sorry wallet, but nice toys are spendy.

Sorry but have to rant.
Woke up at 8am to check nvidias website (per date and time given by them) and did not see anything about being able to preorder. I keep checking multiple pages and google searches- nothing. Called nvidia an hour later and they said to just wait for the email that I should be getting. Called again at 11 and they said it's sold out. This is already annoying. But then I look at ebay right now and see that there are 92 listing of people selling their preorders (all for 900+). Some guy even said he had 3 available. This is quite a bad business practice, and if you're one of those people doing this.... I hope karma gets you.

People that actually desire the card should be getting the preorders, not people looking to scam suckers out of an extra $300.

I do, because I have 3 monitors that accept displayport. Its not really that hard to believe.

Lets also state.. vr usually needs 1 hdmi, correct? So why do you need more than 1 for VR? Display port has always been far ahead of hdmi, so it should be more available.

Ive edited your post to be within the terms of service.

Also, dont buy from scammers. Period. Nvidia warrsnty is non transferrable, so anyone that buys the overproced cards will get screwed if they need to rma. Just ignore ebay and show some patience.

the first MFG that makes one with 2 HDMI ports wins

LOL.... My last 6-9 Monitors have all had Display Port.  If you are running High End cards, you usually have either a 2560x1440 monitor, or a nice 4k screen, or something along those line, unless 3x1080 or something along those lines.  My current monitor is the 1st time, in almost 5+ years, that it uses HDMI 2.0, but I digress.  But even when I did my short stint in triple, I did 3x 2560x1440, so I loved all the Display ports.  Before, you had to mess with Dongles and adapters.... blah...  I think the current port layout is perfect.  I think they came up with this layout before VR took off.  Thats why I think they will stick with it, but make the special VR editions, with the HDMI front panel add-on like some of those others I've seen.
