ASUS Z590 ROG Maximus XIII, TUF and PRIME motherboards pictured - VideoCardz.com

Two ASUS Z590 motherboards have been leaked by @harukaze5719 over at Twitter. The series revealed by the leaker is ROG MAXIMUS XIII, which is based on the upcoming Intel Z590 chipset. The leak features two motherboards, the MAXIMUS XIII EXTREME GLACIAL and MAXIMUS XIII HERO. Additionally, we have another two photos of the first PRIME and TUF Gaming series motherboards based on this new Intel chipset.

The motherboards are equipped with an LGA1200 socket, the same socket that we have on the Z490 series. The new motherboards are targeted for the upcoming 11th Gen Core processor series codenamed Rocket Lake-S. The new series will introduce PCIe Gen 4 support, a wider DMI channel between the CPU and the chipset, as well as improvements to the CPU core design itself. The premium Z490 motherboards are already hardware compatible with PCI Gen4, however, there might be some limitations, such as the primary M.2 slot may not operate in the Gen4 standard, however, that has not yet been fully confirmed.

The ASUS Z590 MAXIMUS XIII EXTREME GLACIAL is an ultra-premium motherboard equipped with pre-installed monoblock. This board looks almost identical to the Z490 GUNDAM, a special commemorative edition inspired by the anime GUNDAM series. The GLACIAL is also an E-ATX form factor board. The 13th Edition of the Hero series sees a noticeable design overhaul. Sadly the picture does not provide a clear look at the VRM section, but we can immediately notice that the EATX12V connectors have been upgraded to dual 8-pins, compared to 8+4 on the Z490 series. Interestingly both motherboards do not have any audio chipset capacitors visible. We have already mentioned that premium Z590 motherboards will come with a new Realtek 4080 audio codec and such boards all appear to have those capacitors upgraded to something that can be hidden under a plastic cover. This isn’t the case for the Prime and TUF motherboards that we are also sharing below.

Intel will unveil its 500-series motherboards at CES 2021. ASUS and other motherboard makers should lift the embargo on their new designs shortly after.

This might be the 1st time in decades that Intel kept an exiting socket for a new chipset release....

Well I think Intel would have looked stupid if they would have had a new socket for this processor and then another socket at the end of the year for the DDR5 supported motherboards/CPUs/chipsets.

    They would look very silly.
There's finally enough competition that Intel's CPU sales are affected by their actions.  In previous years, they probably would have chosen a new silly socket.

    Z270 7700k>z170 6700k

    Z97 4790k>z87 3770k

The list goes for a long way back.

Did you mean a new PCI? The chipset usually gets 2 CPU/sockets per launch, on nearly every generation. X299 got 3 CPU’s on one chipset lol.

Asus and MSI Flagship Z590 Motherboards Will Cost A Small Fortune

Intel's Z590 motherboards haven't officially hit the retail shelves yet; however, Asus and MSI have gone ahead and revealed the pricing for their corresponding offerings.

For starters, Asus will launch up to 13 different Z590 motherboards that originate from the brand's ROG Maximus, ROG Strix, TUF, and Prime lineups. Asus Germany shared the press release, so the MSRP is only valid for Germany and Austria. The German branch didn't specify whether the pricing already includes VAT (value-added tax) or not, though.

For this generation, Asus is separating the ROG Maximus XIII Extreme into the vanilla version and the Glacial version that comes with an EK monoblock. According to the press release, either motherboard may command a price tag over $1,000, enough money to put together a gaming PC. In retrospect, the ROG Maximus XII Extreme already retails for $749.99.

It's interesting, though, that the press release listed the ROG Maximus XIII Apex, an overclocking-eccentric model that usually launches afterward. Considering that the current Maximus XII Apex already gets the job done, it blows our mind that Asus would refresh the motherboard since Rocket Lake-S is expected to be the last wave of processors on the LGA1200 socket.

    Asus Z590 Motherboard Pricing
Model MSRP (Euro) MSRP (USD) Availability
    ROG Maximus XIII Extreme Glacial €1,516 $1,843 Q1 / 2021
    ROG Maximus XIII Extreme €960 $1,166 Q1 / 2021
ROG Maximus XIII Hero €505 $613 Beginning of February 2021
    ROG Maximus XIII Apex €505 $613 Q1 / 2021
ROG Strix Z590-E Gaming WiFi €378 $459 Beginning of February 2021
ROG Strix Z590-F Gaming WiFi €341 $414 Beginning of February 2021
ROG Strix Z590-A Gaming WiFi €328 $398 Beginning of February 2021
    ROG Strix Z590-I Gaming WiFi €378 $459 Q1 / 2021
    Prime Z590-A €277 $336 Beginning of February 2021
TUF Gaming Z590-Plus WiFi €252 $306 Beginning of February 2021
    TUF Gaming Z590-Plus €239 $290 Q1 / 2021
    Prime Z590-P €201 $244 Q1 / 2021
    Prime Z590M-Plus €189 $229 Q1 / 2021
On the other hand, MSI preferred to reveal its Z590 lineup via the company's MSI Insider stream. The total number of motherboards comes down to 12, spanning from the Pro series all the way up to the exclusive MEG series.

The MEG Z590 Godlike, which probably doesn't need an introduction, will bring all the bells and whistles to the table. The Z590-powered motherboard boasts an MSRP of up to $1,019. At this rate, it's a competition between the MEG Z590 Godlike and ROG Maximus XIII Extreme to see which one costs more than the other. Not that it's a good thing since consumers will have to shell out tons of cash for one or the other.

Enthusiasts will be happy to know that MSI will roll out the MEG Z590 Unify and MEG Z590I Unify once again. What these motherboards lack in bright lights, they make up for in features, especially the MEG Z590I Unify that will probably excel in memory overclocking.

$613 for a Hero? 13 different Z590 boards? Intel better be churning out a shipload of these CPUs, because the way things are looking there's going to be a flood of motherboards... and those are nearing scalper prices.. Wow $460 just for a mini-ITX. Crazy.

Now I wonder how much EVGA are going to ask for their Z590 Dark...

$1k for a motherboard that will be terribly outdated 8 months after launch... and people say Apple likes to scalp its customers.  Might be quite a lot of those stuck on shelves in short order!

Be sure to consider a MB that has Bifurcation on the 2nd PCIe 8X slot, as at least the 3080 (maybe 3090) doesn't seem to be the least bit impacted by running in 8x Gen 4.0 pcie.

    seems like... a terrible idea.
Massive price hike on this generation of mobos probably because they know this new generation of intel cpus wont be very popular and that it has z490 compatibility anyways which is cheaper. The sales will be limited so might as well hike prices to recoup R & D

The only reason i can see that people would want this is for more bandwidth for extra m.2's? pcie4 is a plus but not a game changer

This socket will be outdated THIS YEAR with the arrival of 12900k and ddr5

This might be the 1st time in decades that Intel kept an exiting socket for a new chipset release....

    Z390 9900k>z370 8700k

    Z270 7700k>z170 6700k

    Z97 4790k>z87 3770k

The list goes for a long way back.

Did you mean a new PCI? The chipset usually gets 2 CPU/sockets per launch, on nearly every generation. X299 got 3 CPU’s on one chipset lol.

technically the z270 and i think the z170 platform should support up to 9900k but intel killed that by locking them out been thinking of modding my maximus ix to support a 9900k

The slippery slope has been reached. Manufacturers are learning enthusiasts are not logical with purchase price and want to get rid of the scalper middle man and get all that $$$ goodness for themselves. When scalpers can no longer make margins off of MSRP vs what the market will bear, only the manufacturer does good in that nightmare scenario.
