AMD in a letter to its retail partners issued guidelines to prevent scalping of the kind that affected the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 30-series "Ampere" launch. The letter, leaked to the web by RedGamingTech, calls for measures such as real-time bot detection, complex CAPTCHA implementations (such as math, pictures, etc), a queue-based reservation system; manual processing of online orders, minimizing B2B re-selling to ensure sales to private individuals (end-users), and dynamic inventory.

Given SLI and CFX are nominally last year's technology I will ignore 8K gaming for now.

So one card per person is reasonable.

My NewEgg bookmark for RTX 3000 cards continues to be zilch. So hopefully the RX 6000 cards are not as pathetic.

Same. I can't believe how absolute $H1+ this launch has been.

Of course scalpers will try to find a way to circumvent the security.

AMD has had a long history of preventing resellers of the AMD cards. It’s called a lack of interest from gamers. I honestly don’t see them as having a great card in the last about 12-13 years that would pull me away from NVIDIA.

Of course that could change in the future but this generation I don’t see them beating a 3080 so it’s kind of a moot point what they do to prevent bots and resellers. It looks good on paper but the rush to get the cards from NVIDIA is based on the long history of the graphics card leader in the industry.

Do you think retail workers care or read them? I mean sure at the corporate level sure but the people working at the stores don’t care. It’s not like they plan to retire from a job at Best Buy.

yeah i work in retail but there isnt anything we can do since managers dont care, we have people coming in and buying boxes of funko pops, limited edition controllers or consoles, cant do anything to stop them since if i tell them no then they will complain to a manager and you just get written up

True , that everything in person relies on the human factor ... but as I posted in the other thread,

AMD announced a few things to help their launch , at least.
We will see if it does anything.... but at least it was a good P.R. move ahead of time.

LUL, this is all CYA (cover your ass). Like retailers are going to change their whole checkout process just to sell AMD products. This is the difference between integrity and virtue. Integrity is what you do when no one is watching you while virtue is telling people what they want to hear. Virtue is the toilet paper of values. The world needs more integrity and less virtue.

Looking at the ray tracing numbers and lack of an answer to DLSS I don't see how anyone would really be in a huge rush to own a 6800XT. It gets worse for the 6900 since it's paying $1000 for a card to not play ray tracing games on. Of course some games will play pretty close to what they will on a 3080 and in some cases faster but people buy cards for the future and I feel the features lacking really put these cards behind the NVIDIA offerings especially when you consider AMD software doesn't work as well as the NVIDIA software.

Of course don't take my word for it but rather read the reviews of these cards. It would be different if these cards are not less then the cost of a new game from the NVIDIA cards but the 6800XT vs. a 3080 become more about what is missing on these cards and factoring what that will mean for the future year or two you own the new card.

Yup, still waiting to get a 5900X at retail pricing. No way I'm paying $800-1000 for it.

Are you really so ignorant as to believe scalping is Nvidia's fault?

And you are the LAST person to be talking about staying neutral in a fanboy argument.

I think coreteks had a good point. You can buy a new LG cX 4k OLED for $1.5 to 2k and its scaler renders 1080p indistinguishable (almost) from 4 k. So in that scenario, you keep your 1070 or rx580 and instead get a huge visual upgrade to a 48-55" monitor, 120hz , g-sync, 10 bit color. After all why do people play games, to look at the fps numbers in the corner or to enjoy an immersive experience?

I went a slightly different direction with a Vizio M-Series 50" for my desktop. FreeSync and 10-bit HDR color. Be weary of anything less than 50" though because many of them omit FreeSync as to segment use of TVs from their traditional PC display sales. I'm perfectly happy with 50" on the desktop though.

Thank you Nvidia for the scalpers.
At least the scalpers stay neutral unlike the loyal brand fan boys🀣🀣🀣πŸ˜ͺ😴😴🀣🀣🀣😴😴

Are you really so ignorant as to believe scalping is Nvidia's fault?

And you are the LAST person to be talking about staying neutral in a fanboy argument.

Well it's not like they are scalping the AMD based Xbox Series X and the PS5 consoles. Nope nobody is on eBay scalping those it's just NVIDIA GPU's.
