AMD has confirmed to fans via its Facebook page that Vega is nearly ready and confirmed that it’s coming this quarter. Vega is AMD’s latest graphics microarchitecture which will debut in the company’s brand new high-end Radeon RX Vega graphics cards.  We are already a month into the first quarter of 2017 which means Vega can’t be more than a couple of months away from launching world-wide.

I cant wait to see more Vega stuff, but I am always hesitant when AMD says things without visible numbers from reviewers to back them up. They have done very well with the launch of Ryzen, aside from minor hiccups, when it comes to raw performance for computing.

It will be interesting to see if AMD can show good performance with Vega and at an attractive price point.

AMD Radeon RX Vega caught hiding in plain sight? An eye-catching entry in the TechPowerUp GPU database caught our attention. The data shows the intimate details of none other than the AMD Radeon RX Vega, a card which, just a couple of days ago, AMD had said it would be launched sometime this quarter. If you remember, just last month we’d reported an AMD official saying the launch was “just around the corner”.
It seems it may be closer than you’d think. According to the database, the card has a release date of today (28th April 2017).

n addition to the release date, the database describes the Radeon RX Vega as having the following features: a 1 GHz core GPU clock, with a 1.2 GHz boost clock, and 8 GB of HBM2 memory running at 1 GHz (2 GHz effective). The Vega seems to carry a dual memory controller, doubling the memory bus width to 2048-bit, when compared to first generation HBM. The graphics engine contains 4096 shader units, as we’d already reported a month ago. It counts 256 TMUs, 64 ROPs and 64 compute units. The total computing power of Vega is 9.8 Tflops, shy of the GTX 1080 Ti’s 10.6 Tflops.

3DMark TimeSpy Benchmark Of Early Radeon RX Vega Prototype Leaks Out

Prototype of RX Vega based graphics card scores 5721 points in TimeSpy, clocked at 1200 MHz

Before I go any further, the clock speed of this sample is a mere 1200 MHz. This means you are looking at a number of 9.8 TFLOPs and not the performance Raja Koduri promised. With a single precision compute of 12.5 TeraFLOPs per second on a GPU with 4096 cores, you are looking at a RX Vega 10 graphics card that needs to be clocked at roughly 1526 MHz. Considering the fact that the already revealed MI25 is passively cooled, it should be able to achieve this mark in due course and even exceed it. The specifications mention the HBM2 stack with 512 GB/s of bandwidth and we already know from the RX Vega Doom demos that the product will have total vRAM of 8 GB. The card will consume 225 Watts of power.

This is going to be interesting because of the rumors going around. Some rumors say that several models of Vega will become available, some rumors say only two models.

For me price is crucial. If AMD offer same performance as GTX1080Ti for 600-650 euro I will go on Radeon.
If price of NVIDIA drop I will be happy to play games on GeForce.
I can't wait new graphic card, a lot of games wait only for GPU upgrade.
At the moment I play only Left 4 Dead 2 Custom Campaigns.

So tired of reading and seeing nothing. I could careless regarding Vega at this point. I believe the performance is going to be some where between the 1080/Ti with a better price point. That does not excite me in the slightest. And if that is how it ends up. AMD is dead to me officially gpu wise. I want to be wrong on every front for the sake of it. With Nvidia sitting on Volta just licking their chops for AMD to make that move with Vega. Its not looking to promising for AMD to pull it off. We shall see.

I think if you're looking to game at 4k you should wait and see what AMD has to offer in a month, I bet a HBM2 GPU will eat any 4k game you toss at it.
And hey, if they don't deliver spend the money on a 1080 or two.

AMD leaving Nvidia in the dust at least when it comes to being in the news as of late. I'm an EVGA/Nvidia guy so I hope it encourages them step their game up, myself.
