Do you guys plan to release a Titan X with the cooler already attached?

No, a thousand dollars plus a new cooler. Cash only.

I just got the cooler.  It came with a thermal pad preinstalled on the heatsink.  Would you recommend me removing the pad and replacing it with the Noctua thermal paste that I have or should I just use the pad?

That's awesome. Man, please give us a review. Noise, temps and ease of assembly. I'm extremely interested in this but i'm a little weary about taking my beautiful TX apart.

I would think that using paste would lead to better performance as long as long as they didn't use the pad because they need something thicker so that the heat sink makes correct contact with all components. I'm not an expert by any means though.

Got mine in. Noticed a nut in the plastic bag with the screws. Can't find where that goes in the instructions. Ideas?

I know exactly where that nut goes based on my installation of the GTX 970 backplates. It keeps the backplate attached to the board and the cooler. I think this picture should help you out, but there should have been a nut already on the board.

Camera was dead :(. I installed it though with no problems, the instructions included are great! That is not a thermal pad pictured above (at least mine wasn't) but pre-included thermal compound/paste. At stock clock with a custom fan curve, under load I have went from 77-83C  to 60-65C (15 min)! Absolutely crazy and worth the price so far. At 200MHz OC, I'm seeing 64-69C. Also way quieter than the stock blower style fan.

Wow that sounds amazing. Still quiet with that OC? Debating between this cooler and the hybrid, but this one looks so much better.

I installed mine today and have been testing it with GTA V on 4K settings using a Titan X Superclocked. Before the card was maxing out at 83 degrees pretty quickly. I just played for an hour and it was averaging around only 65-68 degrees. Before the fan would always kick up louder when playing GTA V and Witcher3 at 4K, so far it hasn't made a peep. Very quiet and solid. If you have a Titan X, you need to get one of these. Installation was pretty easy too, there's only a few easy to follow steps. It also lights up "EVGA Geforce GTX TITAN X" in white and actually looks pretty cool in my case too.

Yep. You're right. Thanks. I figured it out, but without your clue, it would have been a bit more challenging.

I ran a quick test. I was hitting 68-70C with the old cooler. With this one I am getting 54-57C max. Big improvement. Only problem was one screw for around the GPU did not fit. It must have been machined incorrectly, but the other 3 make it work fine. I will contact EVGA about a replacement.

BTW-Since this issue is with a defective cooler instead of the video card itself, will EVGA provide a replacement? It's a bit concerning since it's one of the screws around the GPU itself.

Wow. I might have to get one of these. My card is overclocking like a monster so I may have to look into this. I'm pushing 1433 mhz on air and so far with fans cranked up to 70-75, i'm still high 60s to low 70s. Granted, those are just spurts of 30 mins here and there gaming. No marathon sessions as of yet.

Thanks for your reviews. I like the stock cooler but it is a bit loud once you start turning it up to 70%+

Btw, where did you guys get these from? I looked at the link provided and it says auto notify. I wonder if they sold out already?

Re: ACX 2.0+ Cooler for TITANX 2015/05/30 01:58:30 (permalink)
Will this be a good replacement for the Titan X reference cooler in a SLI configuration or will it perform worse? This is on a Z97 mobo with about 2 inches of clearance between the bottom card and top card.

Bottom card reaches about 83C, top card hits 92C and throttles after about 10-15 minutes of heavy gaming. Since it throttles between 800MHz-1000MHz I get framerate drops in many games where it rapidly goes between 50-60 fps as it dances between 91C and 92C.

I tried the 980 AIO but in my H440 it was running into the same problems, it took about half an hour but eventually the card hit 91C on the AIO cooler. I think my case air flow is bad. My only option is front intake or top exhaust on the H440. I think what was happening when I ran the AIO as a top exhaust, heat from my CPU cooler was running into the fan that was pushing hot air through the rad and causing the rad not being able to remove much heat from the loop. If I try the AIO again I might have to run it as intake and dump heat into the case in order to cool the card properly. I already know as exhaust it completely overwhelms the 980 Hybrid AIO even at 1000MHz base clock.

I'm debating between getting the AIO cooler again and trying an aftermarket fan (maybe a air penetrator fan) or the ACX 2.0 cooler, just for the top card.  I need a card that can maintain 1000MHz stock clock without throttling in a small case silent case with poor airflow. However I heard ACX 2.0 coolers don't do so well in SLI because of rising heat from the bottom card?

Basically I'm debating between the Titan X AIO and the ACX 2.0 cooler at this point. Of course if I get the Titan X AIO for the top card, I might also have to get ACX 2.0 cooler for the bottom card since a reference card isn't going to be able to handle an intake AIO well.

I got mine from EVGA store earlier in the week. Works quite well. You need a case with a lot of airflow, and my 900d has lots of intake fans. I let mine run a little longer (about 15 minutes) and the maximum temp was 63C for the top card, but typically I don't run a 3D program that long. It has been hotter here lately too, so the ambient temp is certainly higher as well. I have 2 of these and they work well in SLI. Bottom card is significantly cooler.

If you are running SLI Titans, you might consider getting the hybrid cooler for the Titan X (once it is available). Also, the ACX is sold out at the moment hence the "Auto-notify" option. It is quieter than the stock cooler like I said above. Though at 70% or more fan speed, there is still a significant amount of noise (if you are a silent-phile kind of guy, go with hybrids or invest in custom loops). With this cooler I have lowered my fan curve percentage just because of how efficient it is.

My case has two front fans and one exhausted fan. Think I should toss in a few top fans? I have the corsair 780t. The entire case is pretty much open to air with a dust cover.

I'm guessing 70% isn't necessary though right? How high does your fan curve need to be to keep it cool? Sorry for all the questions. I'm being really indecisive between this and the hybrid cooler.

I like to see PCB protected like this between two plates.
Expensive card it's much better now than naked PCB.
Off course MX-4 for better temps.

Astrallite, try opening the front of your case and see if that helps the temps. From what I understand, the H440 is very restrictive. If opening it up helps a lot you may want to invest in some better fans to pull in cool air from the front.

Depends on your case air flow and the ambient temperature in your room. In the summer, my room is usually around 22-24C. Idle temps are around 30C currently with a fan speed of 20. I have not extensively tested it with different fan speeds, but I did marathon witcher for about 5 hours and the highest temps I had were 70C with the highest fan speed around 60. Before I had my highest fan speed set to 75 and was averaging 80C so there still is a large improvement. I possibly could have it lower but haven't tried it yet. I'll get back to you when I have tested it at auto stock fan speeds. Of course the hybrid will get you the cooler temps though, and isn't a huge price difference.

It would be awesome to hear about the stock fan profile. My room is usually around 25C and with the stock blower running at 75% or so, it's loud enough to be distracting if I'm not using headphones. I'm just hoping there's a big enough difference in cooling potential between this and the stock fan that it won't have to run at a distracting noise level to keep acceptable temperatures.

Edit: I'm not that worried about the price difference, but the acx cooler is far more attractive looking than the hybrid shroud. I guess it shouldn't be that big of a deal since I'm not staring into my case all the time but I guess I'm a little bit vain haha

Re: ACX 2.0+ Cooler for TITANX 2015/05/30 18:58:19 (permalink)
I ran some Heaven benchmarks (max everything). Keep in mind this is with OC of Core +200. The ACX fan profile's highest percentage was around 35-38. After running it for 30 min at stock, the highest temperature that peaked was 80C. At those speeds I barely can here it over my CPU cooler which has a low noise on it's own. To put that into perspective, I was running that core OC on the stock fan with temps around 80C-84C WITH the fan running around 75%. I like to keep it cooler so I have the new ACX set, as I said, to 60% max achieving a max temp around 70C. You can imagine running stock clocks will achieve even lower temperatures. The Titan series have always had high temperatures, so I guess it depends on what you believe the "acceptable" temperature range is, keeping in mind that most Titan X's at stock clocks and default fan speeds are usually around 80C in the summer (at least for most owners I've talked to). In the end, it does run quieter, and especially so if you keep it at default fan speeds (and 80C, in reality, is fine). For me, I can take a bit of noise if it means keeping my GPU cooler and hence prolonging it's life (for the most part). Besides, the only time I need those speeds is when I'm gaming, and if I'm gaming, I have headphones or my computer speakers turned up and don't notice the fan noise. If I were to run an SLI system with these Titans, I would just invest in liquid cooling. Also, keep in mind that THIS WEEK and the upcoming weeks, it seems Nvidia has backed off on companies putting their own aftermarket solutions on the Titan, so keep a lookout for other options. For the price though, this ACX cooler is well worth it because I would rather replace the cooler than the $1000 GPU

Nice pic!!

Just wondering which slot did you put the graphic card as sli?

It seem you are doing SLI in first slot and last slot and using 4 way EVGA pro SLI Bridge. Am I correct?

It's the recommeded slots for 2xSLI on the R5E. It's actually slots 1 and 4, and it is a 3 way SLI bridge, not 4 way. There are 2 other slots below the second card.

It's the recommeded slots for 2xSLI on the R5E. It's actually slots 1 and 4, and it is a 3 way SLI bridge, not 4 way. There are 2 other slots below the second card.

I see. I thought you were using 4 way sli bridge. I am using same MB and I need 4 slot between 2 cards so I asked.

Anyway thanks for reply.
