Hello
So been having a few problems recently with my card, which is about 6 months old, where fans all of a sudden became very loud during load - by loud, imagine hairdyer. I've created a timeline below of the events leading to this and below are the system specs;
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K
Cooler: Noctua NH-D14
Motherboard: Asus Z97-A ATX
RAM: 16GB DDR3-2133
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB
Tower Case: Fractal Design Define R4
Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 650W
*There's more but i don't think it's relevant here
So to the timeline:
December 2015: PC build installed with windows 7 pro, no problems, never heard card fans at all including under full load and a whole days of playing.
April 2015: Out of the blue, the fans of the card start being quite loud (hairdryer loud). This was around the time i upgraded to windows 10, but problem have have been slightly before.
Early May 2015: Problem disappears when I was worried about heat inside the case so purchased 2 "be quiet! Pure Wings" fans and added to the case, one inflow and other outflow (total of 4 fans on the case now).
Late May 2015: Problem comes back, fans once again start spinning with the sound of hairdryers, I investigate and using Precision X i noticed that by manually testing fans at 20% the noise is the same as running them at 100%.
June 2015: I update newer drivers that were out, problem disappears once again, running games under load caused barely any noise.
Today: Fans have been making same noise now for a 2 weeks or so.
The cards, idle temperatures are around 40-50, however during load it runs at about 70-80 (which i understand is perfectly fine) but the noise is almost unbearable, I can almost hear it from outside my room.
I don't know if this is normal, but i'm suspecting that considering this was never a consistent issue I worry it may be more than just the card.
Any thoughts? More info and a a video of the sound can be obtained ASAP.
Many thanks.
Ric
