Ok not much of a gamer i know i am rare  :) . but i really do like this card but i notice the fan making alot of noise it has always been very well kept care of and no dust build up just sounding rough . i was wondering if and one can give me a idea on a fan to replace it with ? maybe a link on Newegg or were ever else one likes to shop. don't want to replace it been good to me but i do understand at some point i will have to. any advice on a decent card with equal power or little more.   It is the dual dvi  Evga 9800 gt 512 meg version. any info would be great

Thanks...

I would suggest an upgrade. The GT640 would blow your card away, do it on less power, and cooler. Here is one at NewEgg: http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16814130796

If the card was registered within 30days and warranty is valid, contact evga. Maybe they will give you a fan or RMA your card. If not you can buy a cheap fan (less than $15) off ebay.Just make sure you get the correct mounting option as well as fan size.

1) PCIe 3.0 is backwards compatible and will work just fine in your older mobo (and the GT 640 pcmaster00 linked you to is a very decent deal).
2) You could just strap about a 60mm fan on the 9800 GT with rubber bands (fans are dirt cheap).
3) You could buy a replacement VGA cooling fan (if you can find a proper one which will match up and with the screw holes of the original one, or has adjustable/universal mounting)
4) You could do like I did and disassemble the card, remove the fan and lubricate the bearing (providing the bearing/sleeve isn't completely trashed) from the underside, the fan setup should be very similar if not identical to my 9800 GTX:

5) And most importantly, RMA it if it's under warranty.

And also, welcome to the forums.

If you don't want to spend much money you could fiddle with the existing fan. Does the fan have some kind of sticker label at it's center? pc case fans usually do and that sticker can be removed to reveal a rubber or plastic insert that you can gently pry off with the tip of an exacto knife. Then just pour 1-2 drops of all-purpose oil (not car oil, but the general purpose oil you get at hardware stores) don't use wd-40 I think it can conduct electricity, it contains other chemicals to remove rust. Get the all-purpose lubricating oil. Then put everything back together and your fan wont be so noisy. I did this trick with a few case fans before on server machines.

I'll see if I can get you some pics.

70'ish is about right with 2 monitors..It will depend alot on ambient room temp/case temp too..More importantly, what is the load temp when playing games or running a benchmark like Unigine Heaven? http://unigine.com/products/heaven/
